Missing, Falsely Identified Bombing Suspect Sunil Tripathi Found Dead

Falsely Identified "Boston Bombing" Suspect Found Dead
4-25-13

The amateur detective sleuths on 4Chan, Reddit and other social sites were so eager to demonstrate their investigative prowess in the information vacuum days following the Boston Bombing, they managed to identify virtually everyone who appeared even slightly tanned and/or had a backpack as a potential suspect. Sadly, the game, as well-meaning as it may have been, just turned lethal for one of the people who were falsely identified, as NBC just confirmed that Sunil Tripathi, 22, a former student at Brown University has been found dead in the Providence River.

FBI CONFIRMED TRIPATHI as bomber...

The MSM is trying to pin Tripathi 'error' on web sleuths.

In reality Tripathi was likely going to be the 'fall guy' but the web sleuths saved him from that disgrace.

Former Boston Marathon bomb suspect found DEAD!

Remember Day #2 when the government/media was showing the Tsarnaev brothers with their faces blurred out, and the government media was asking the public for help finding them?

Do you also remember the media was saying that suspect #2 identity was CONFIRMED and that his name was Sunil Tripathi?

Well guess who just turned up D E A D?...yup, Sunil...

At least the family has

At least the family has closure now.

It is my understanding...

that he left a suicide note in his dorm and went missing 45 days ago.

It's a little too early to blame anyone for his death.

We don't even know the time of death yet, we don't know if he died today or 45 days ago.

In fact, according to the article, the body hasn't even been positively identified yet and won't be until the autopsy.

So, we don't even know if the body is Sunil Tripathi's or not.

This is all speculation.

"The State is a gang of thieves writ large." - Murray Rothbard

Spot on.

Exactly what I was thinking. Although I do smell a round of "crucify people who ask questions" coming on.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

This "Tyler Durden" who wrote the article in the link...

This "Tyler Durden" who wrote the article in the link is an idiot. He is trying to connect the reports from "internet sleuths" that this young man was falsely identified in the Marathon bombings somehow led to his death. He says their "game...just turned lethal." However, Sunil Tripathi went missing March 16th, thirty days before the bombing in Boston. You mean to tell me that social media falsely identified someone missing for a month, yet somehow someone found this missing person and killed him based upon the false accusation? Or this guy had disappeared and was wandering around Rhode Island for a month incognito, happens to see that Reddit accuses him of being a suspect in the bombing and THEN kills himself? I hope someone identifies this "Tyler Durden" and sues him for slander.

It would be good if we didn't

It would be good if we didn't repost idiot articles, I agree.

I would like confirmation on

I would like confirmation on him dying before the BB incident, but regardless it seems it is just being used against anyone trying to do DYI-CSI.

"Perhaps it is time to reevaluate the crowdsourced approach to "solving" crimes? Perhaps it is also time to remember the whole "innocent until proven guilty" saying, as meaningless as it may be in our day and age."

It is funny, now they want to bring up the whole "innocent until proven guilty" after killing one guy and critically wounding another based off of a few pictures that show nothing.

Badly titled NON STORY as a BIG FAIL

This is a non-story.

One of the people talked about, who was missing well before the Boston Bombings in a different area of the country, was found dead in a river,

having, likely, died well before the Boston Bombings.

This needs to be re-titled. Also, the attempts to guilt trip - ie do what God and your own conscience doesn't do, is a big fail.

Missing person died well before Boston Bombs in area and manner that has nothing to do with them. ie in Providence River up in Rhode Island where he originally disappeared.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

oh please

what a cowardly dramatic suggestion to blame "internet slueths"

i recall the suggestion coming from the media, not from 4chan or whatever.

if suicide, he is responsible for himself.

im confused

hasnt he been missing since mid March? How does this relate to the 'bombing'?

Although he had been missing, a woman thought that he was there.

Reddit forum apologized to Tripathi's family for naming him as the suspect accused of setting off a series of explosions near the marathon's finish line. "I'd like to extend the deepest apologies to the family of Sunil Tripathi for any part we may have had in relaying what has turned out to be faulty information," the moderator wrote in a statement. "We cannot begin to know what you're going through and for that we are truly sorry.

A woman who went to high school with Tripathi wrongfully named him as one of the men wanted by the FBI. "Several users, twitter users, and other sources had heard him identified as the suspect and believed it to be confirmed," the statement continued. "We were mistaken."

Reddit's general manager, Erik Martin, also apologized to the family.

The accusation added Tripathi to a list of others mistaken for the suspects, or targeted, based on their skin color. Last week, a Bangladeshi man from the Bronx was beaten out of retaliation for the marathon attack, which he had nothing to do with.

Didn't the FBI cause this by pretending not to know who the boys

were and by asking the American public to help identify them?

And by no means did any internet investigations cause his death since he was missing long before.

SteveMT's picture

The time of this young man's death may provide some insight.

Also the cause of death is another key issue.
The power of the printed and spoken word cannot be underestimated.

It doesn't. It's a guilt

It doesn't. It's a guilt trip fail.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

& we're to assume this is

& we're to assume this is vigilantism?

I see

where he's been missing for two weeks. It seems his family was caused extra grief above what a family dealing with a missing person, likely suicide, would have been caused due to some speculation that he was one of the bombers.
