What is love, anyway?

Video from 1983. Ha ha - I was a sophomore in high school!

But the question is not rhetorical: What is love, anyway? Does anybody love anybody, anyway?

If you learn to love your enemy, are they still your enemy?

The first few stands:

Pull my coat around me
Feel the cold wind haunt me
Streets are empty just like me
The murmur of an echo
Seems to come from every window
Is loneliness the same as being free?

I guess I must have been dreaming
To think that I believed in you at all
Now I just can't fight it
As the shadow of the night begins to fall
Love's got a lot to answer for

Oh, I just can't sleep with this feeling anymore
Let the cold night air cool the heat
Of two hearts gone to war
For no matter who wins in the end
Love's got a lot to answer for

I was a junior

Freedom is not: doing everything you want to.
Freedom is: not having to do what you don't want to do.

On Love

John 15:13 KJV
[Jesus said] Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

1 John 4:10 KJV
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

John 3:16 KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

"If you learn to love your enemy, are they still your enemy?"

I would say that is up to your enemy.

Romans 12:18 KJV
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

"The Proof Of Your Love" by "For King & Country"

Lyrics:

If I sing but don't have love
I waste my breath with every song
I bring an empty voice, a hollow noise
If I speak with a silver tongue
Convince a crowd but don't have love
I leave a bitter taste with every word I say

So let my life be the proof,
The proof of Your love
Let my love look like You and what You're made of
How You lived, how You died
Love is sacrifice
So let my life be the proof,
The proof of Your love

If I give
To a needy soul but don't have love then who is poor?
It seems all the poverty is found in me

So let my life be the proof,
The proof of Your love
Let my love look like You and what You're made of
How You lived, how You died
Love is sacrifice
Oh, let my life be the proof,
The proof of Your love

When it's all said and done
When we sing our final song
Only love remains
Only love remains

Let my life be the proof,
The proof of Your love
Let my love look like You and what You're made of
How You lived, how You died
Love is sacrifice
So let my life be the proof,
The proof of Your love

Yes, they would still be your enemy

An enemy is a person who acts against you. Just because you live them does not mean they would stop acting against you. Our enemies give us an opportunity to grow, to learn, to evaluate ourselves. Our enemies give us a gift, and while it may not be apparent to us now, many time it becomes something we LOL at later, when it dawns on us, if we care, what it was all about, anyways.

Granger - no they wouldn't!

If you love someone, how can they be your enemy?

If you love someone, you support them, and want for them what they want.

I disagree with your mission. It is not my mission. But i still want you to achieve it.

Because I love you. That is the direction you are driven by the universe. To follow it is to have courage, and I love people with courage.

Yah, I was thinking about that some more today but didn't stop

to say, but I see it is being discussed here.

You say: "If you love someone, how can they be your enemy?"

And that is the point. If you love someone they are not YOUR enemy. However, you may still be THEIR enemy.

Anyways, that is the thought that came to me today. Specifically if one was in a prison camp and the guards were brutal. You could love them and your eyes would no longer see them as an enemy. However, they may still treat you like an enmey. Thus tha ante is raised...will you then also continue to allow love to rise to meet the new occasion? Since love is an action, there is a choice. It is a choice that resides within what one allows to live in their heart.

Anyways, that was my philosophical thought earlier today.

You confuse love and respect.

I think you have a notion of what is going on with my daughter. I still love her, how can I not? But I have no respect for her right now. Love gives me the strength to hold out hope for her to also choose love. Sometimes you have to "love from afar" for your own safety, and love does not EVER need to be blind. It is best with eyes wide open, it proves you have gained the wisdom to love IN SPITE of failures.
I love the Rothschilds. I want justice for them, it is the LOVING answer. I won't deny there is a part of me that would be pleased to see some sort of vengeance for their generations of - well, you know. But if I want a better world, I have to be a better me, and so I do not seek or recommend vengeance, I seek justice. This is not really out of a magnanimous part of me, either, it is ultimately selfish. If I live by this code, I create a world where I am more likely to die by this code. Not guaranteed, but if NO ONE lives by that code, I will certainly die of a hate-filled motive (or old age, but how many of us will die of "natural causes" in the age of flouride water, geo-engineered air and Monsatan food?)
I chose love and forgiveness because I need love and forgiveness in my world.
"...but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" and to me that means, in spite of all my imperfections, and theirs. It gives me permission to love me, if I chose to love them.
You may rest assured I hate the evil they have manifested with all my heart, mind and soul.

Love or fear? Chose again with every breath.

well said

:D

Yes they would (((((MN)))))

An enemy is not how YOU feel about someone. Feelings lie. An enemy is someone who factually operates against you. This is not reason for you you get upset and hate them.. it's an opportunity to learn.

Look, I have many enemies on DP. I don't dislike or hate any of them. I am always respectful to them, even though, being human, you bet sometimes it hurts, more than just feelings. But instead of getting upset and settling on hate, I love them anyways. So they downvote me to oblivion.. have I ever once asked you to remove anyone? No. Some here might say I have the most enemies of all, my biggest enemy is myself and my dyslexia.

My mission is the path Ron Paul set me upon. I worked very hard as a LP and Indy, way harder than for RP, because I have always thought it was "just another rabbit hole", and maybe it is.. but it's one I would have never explored, and I am glad that I am, I am because it is fantastic to be part of the rEVOLution within the GOP, taking seats and voting NO, and materializing RP's message, "restore the republic", to one in which we can honestly stand: LIBERTY (and justice for all).
