My 64 year old mother tells me what she is worried about!
She told me as a women she she looking for security:
She is afraid of pulling all our military home. She thinks having the military in diffrent places throughout the world gives us a way to counter attack in case of problems with another nation. (security)
She told me as a 64 year old she Has payed in her SS and she wants to make sure she gets it back (pocket book)
She told me she wanted to know how the person plans on doing what they are talking about doing. (understanding)
She told me she wanted the person to come off as sure of themselves in their plan. (strength)
so in short she wants:
(a strong leader who she can understand and has a plan for her security and pocket book.)
If you want to know how to get the 60+ year old woman vote. This is straight from her mouth. I know what I told her but I would like to hear what you think. She is a life long Democrat but I think we can reach this demographic. My mom is starting to come around.
Remember this is my mom so be respectful or I'll flag you where is hurts.

"Flemming v. Nestor" proved S.S. is just a tax.
Straight from the Social Security website:
There has been a temptation throughout the program's history for some people to suppose that their FICA payroll taxes entitle them to a benefit in a legal, contractual sense. That is to say, if a person makes FICA contributions over a number of years, Congress cannot, according to this reasoning, change the rules in such a way that deprives a contributor of a promised future benefit. Under this reasoning, benefits under Social Security could probably only be increased, never decreased, if the Act could be amended at all. Congress clearly had no such limitation in mind when crafting the law. Section 1104 of the 1935 Act, entitled "RESERVATION OF POWER," specifically said: "The right to alter, amend, or repeal any provision of this Act is hereby reserved to the Congress." Even so, some have thought that this reservation was in some way unconstitutional. This is the issue finally settled by Flemming v. Nestor.
In this 1960 Supreme Court decision Nestor's denial of benefits was upheld even though he had contributed to the program for 19 years and was already receiving benefits. Under a 1954 law, Social Security benefits were denied to persons deported for, among other things, having been a member of the Communist party. Accordingly, Mr. Nestor's benefits were terminated. He appealed the termination arguing, among other claims, that promised Social Security benefits were a contract and that Congress could not renege on that contract. In its ruling, the Court rejected this argument and established the principle that entitlement to Social Security benefits is not contractual right.

I am your 64 year old grandmother - hate to admit it here...
I'd rather have freedom than security, because security without freedom is no security at all.
With freedom, we are free to create our own security.
There are no longer Dem or Rep's. They are "Republicrats" as they run their mouth about issue but vote the SAME. How did the Dems come to the rescue as promised in last election? NOT!
They've plundered the SS $ we've paid in for years - IT'S NOT THERE. Replicrats did it!
So why would anyone vote just to save anything that is already gone? No sense even worrying about it. Please get away from your "nightly news" and get real news elsewhere - like here.
Every time I TRY to listen, all I do is yell at the news! Nothing but propaganda to keep older people from learning and knowing the truth! They are HIGH PAID USED CAR SALESMAN!
This forum is with like-minded, intelligent people who give sources, videos to support what they are saying.
Dr. Paul will phase out SS BUT will not stop paying those who are already collecting. Same with all entitlement programs.
When eliminating Fed tax, we get to keep our own $ and the economy will grow and prosper under free capitalism and free trade. Make a better product or you are out of business because competition creates better products and services. No more monopolies of news sources either.
We are safer if our troops are home for two reasons - they would be here to actually protect us. Second, our occupation of other countries makes then angry, wouldn't you be in China came in and bombed us, built multiple industrial complexes, and then strong arm the leaders to signing deals exclusive to them?
The US is pushing for Iraq to sign exclusive oil deal with us so we can give to our friends (Fed. govt's friends) to make more billions for them. And our major news sources are in collusion with the Fed. govt. as they make billions off of war. W/o Dr. Paul, Iran is next.
So, I am you! Forget the label of Republican - look at it as I do, I support Dr. Paul for myself, my children, and grandchildren. When I first herd his name mentioned, it was in a positive way.
I looked him up and immediately donated to his campaign. NEVER did that before! I donate EVERY time they ask! Give my time too on a local level. Never have I felt so right about a candidate. I always checked NO on income tax to give for matching campaign funds!
This year we have the usual tell-every-one-what-they-want-to-hear Politicians, then we have a real person with real answers
Answers never change for the audience in front of him. Never wavers on his decisions and proof is in his voting record. We are blessed with this man who left his career to give back to the country he's seen fade away right before his eyes.
I'm in the r3VOLution for the next 20 years!
Tell your
Mom that Ron wants let the younger people opt out of Social Security because when they retire it it will be broke. Ron has stated that he would not cut the social security of the people who depend on it, they will still get a check. As for brining our troops home this would help to pay for the people who have growen dependant on SSI and other programs.
I see she is like so many others who have been brainwashed into believing that we need our troops all over all over the world, this is not true. Did having our troops over in the middle east prevent 911? No it caused it. What she needs to understand is that the real threat is not over seas but right here in our own back yard. By having our troops here we will have a much stronger national defense to protect our people and our sovereignty. She needs to understand that we are being attacked on a daily basis from our southern border, because of all the illegals coming across the border. Not only is this a threat to American jobs, it is also a threat to our sovereignty as a nation.
I hope she can understand this. Ron wants to take care of those who have
growen dependent on SSI and other programs, and he wants to create a strong national defense to help protect our borders and our sovereignty.

Excellent points
I had an uncle who was a fantastic salesman. He told me that when he was confronted with a potential customer who was presenting arguments for why he didn't want to buy, he never argued back. He simply said, "You may be right. Have you considered (fill in the blank)." So, you may disagree with some of what you're about to read, but understand it's not about arguing, it's about selling Ron Paul.
National security: When we were fighting the cold war, all of those bases around the world made a certain amount of sense, because the Soviet Union also was pursuing an expansionist foreign policy. But now, the Soviet Union has collapsed and has too much of an economic stake in the West to be that much of a threat. The current policies don't fit the situation today and actually the security and prosperity your generation (60+) fought for is being eroded. That's why Ron Paul gets more donations from the military than any other GOP candidate. Unlike the bureaucrats and paper pushers in Washington, the people who are on the ground--the officers and grunts--know there needs to be a change, so they're supporting Ron Paul.
Social Security: When FDR enacted social security, it was needed as so many people were left destitute during the Depression. But today, young people have so many more options for investing, that they may be better off taking care of themselves. That's why Ron Paul wants to give them the opportunity to "opt-out" of social security if they wish to do so. As far as people currently on social security, Ron Paul is the only candidate who has a real plan to save it, by bringing home the trillions it takes to operate unnecessary bases overseas. Plus, Ron Paul is the only candidate who understands how and why prices go up and knows how to fix it. The other candidates won't do anything to stop the price inflation you see in the grocery store and your heating bill.
Strength: Some of the other candidate may talk tough, but that doesn't mean they are tough. In fact, to our enemies, much of that blustering bravado belies a deep fear. Sort of like the way bullies talks, like James Cagney or George Raft in the old movies. I see Ron Paul sort of like Gary Cooper or Jimmy Stewart. He's depicts strength simply by telling the truth and standing up for what he believes.
How's that?
What I would say.
1. Military around the world. Put it in terms of policing. If the police for your town are located 3 states away, and the bad guys know your town is wide open (porous borders) how can they “protect” your town effectively.
2. Social Security. Ron Paul has made it clear that promises made to SS must be met. However, without Ron Paul there is no guarantee the SS fund (that’s what politicians call the piggy bank) will ever have money in it.
Past politicians have acted as if the US is MADE of money. Well, why not, they could print whenever they wanted to. Ron Paul has never voted for a spending bill that robs the SS fund. Name another member of congress that can claim that.
3. and 4. Ron Paul has a sterling record of walking the walk. He not only knows the Constitution, he lives by it in Congress. How sure is Ron Paul in his convictions? Enough to stand alone while others plundered our liberties, our wealth, and our reputation in the world. And now, the fiscal insanity that has been rampant in Congress has come back to reveal how little most politicians understand of economics—save Ron Paul. But of course, Ron Paul is a Statesman, not a politician.

Ron Paul for President 2008
I miss That is pretty much what I told her
Also My mother is a Christian and so am I. It's very intresting She thinks that the money she is getting is her money she payed in. I was amazed that she thought that. I told her mom that money has been spent it is gone. I told her that the government has stolen that money and spent it. That made her mad to think about them doing this. I told her that their money has been used to grow an empire and it was wrong to ask the next generation to pay for it. She said then how are we supose to get our money back. I told her we take it back from where it went to we don't try steeling it from the next generation mom. I said mom the younger people are right now fighting for you to get it back from where it has beengoing for years why would you want to steal from a generation of young people that is fighting to get your money back. I also told her that Ron Paul was for pulling our troops home. I told her I think Ron Paul will think of our defence if it requires a base on some island somewhere or 2 or 3 or 4 ect.. or if it requires none. I trust him to make that call because he cares about our defence. I could see that my mother was thinking very hard about what I said. I think she is coming around. I hope this helps others who are dealing with older voters.
ask her how shes feels about the inflation in prices of
everything. looks like that social security check wont go very far.
But Now She Must Choose.
Ask her which one (SSI or Empire) she would choose if she had to have only one of those two things.
We've been able to have both in the past due to "peculiar" financial conditions, wherein we didn't have to make real choices. That era is now over, so choose we must.
I'm 99.9% certain which one she'll keep...
As Ron Paul
has said ,,he is the only one that can save Social Security from imploding.
There's one question I have... Would Ron Paul go back
to the original way the cost of living increase was calculated? If so, he needs to tout it in his speeches and interviews. It would bring a lot more seniors to Dr Paul.
I'd be surprised if most seniors even knew there was a change. Most people in this country are so clueless. They are all too quick to believe lies, but when someone tells them the truth they ignore them.
does she want a fantasy story or the truth.
WE ARE BROKE! if we continue to elect the type of people shes looking for who say one thing but do another she wont be getting a dime. thats the reality. before you say what does he know? im sitting on wall street right now a 25 year veteran and i can tell you what is happening right now is real scary and could turn into something real ugly. at that point i dont think ss is gonna be much of an issue. this may sound alarmist but its really not. thats what drove me to ron paul he has a clear understanding of monetary policy and so do i and i can tell you he is RIGHT ON. people can live in lala land if they like i dont and thats why both i and my client have plenty of insurance its called gold and silver.
as far as security
The state of modern American military might allows us to strike anywhere in the world from here. Example, the stealth bombers at Whiteman AFB in MO fly directly from MO to Iraq for their missions. Our current military technology has eliminated the need for "strategic bases".
Also, (and this is how I convinced my dad, 54 retired Army officer) currently our borders are insecure, a tiny percentage of our shipping containers are actually scrutinized, our immigration controls regarding expired visas are atrocious and there is no action being taken by our government, instead they are too busy instituting the REAL ID act. How many of those actual security issues could we have solved with the money and attention paid to Iraq?
harder for a rich man...
as the bible writes: "It's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:24)
you're mother is looking at outwardly manifested materialism and that keeps her from "getting into heaven" so to speek-- i.e. it took 40 years to get out of egypt even though it should have been a quick journey.
ron paul supporters, so to speak, look past that materialism and see the priniciple.
hopefully, after several generations have been born, culture will change and folks will look back and ask themselves: "why did I give up liberty for that vision of security?"
i.e. the belief in social security, etc..., is a bet that "security" is necessary in heaven and that liberty (free will) isn't.
Ask Her, Does she want you to pay her SS?
Give her a choice:
Either her grand children can pay her social security for the rest of their lives, and get nothing, or
we can bring the troops home, and use the savings to pay her SS.
Incidentally, would she like it if the prices of everything didn't keep going up? Point out that we have the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, so we really aren't too worried about attack on us at home.
IMissLiberty
IMissLiberty
Yes, but we have unprotected borders to the north and the south.
And still do. You would think that if we were really serious about fighting the war on terror Bush, HLS and Congress would have made the protection of our borders a priority, instead of invading Iraq.
Exactly.
The Department of Defense's JOB is to *defend* *this* nation, not *offend* *other* nations. That's why the DoD should be doing border and port security, and why we don't need the DHS etc. and it is a major area of government that can be eliminated once the troops come home.
Dr. Paul doesn't point this out (although he should!), and the illegal immigration problem ties in as well. If the borders are enforced, the illegal flow dries up, which helps the national infrastructure and economic issues (especially here in CA!) since the roads will not be so overburdened and our hospitals won't close from lack of payment from the illegals getting welfare medical treatment. Not to mention that it will prevent wage undercutting for the lower and middle class, so it helps them. Plus, it will reduce the drug trade and actually be an effective interdiction in the WoD, and with it also comes a reduction in Mexican gangs that run the drugs (like MS-16) and cause a lot of the inner-city crime problems as well. Not to mention a reduction in blight and slums and rundown areas, which also rob us by deflating our property values (like the @#$%^ who tagged my mailbox last night, so I need to replace that again, taking money out of my wallet to fix this problem, and it's probably the same punk who tagged my Paul sign two months ago and keeps steling my oranges!).
It all ties together.
Bring home the troops. Redeploy them in a real national security activity by enforcing the ports and border. Get rid of the DHS as unnecessary redundancy. Work on the gang, drug and illegal immigration problems, cut back on welfare as a result, and then the infrastructure can be rebuilt as it is so desperately needed.
But it all begins with the war, and bringing the troops home.
