Success Will Come and Go, But Integrity is Forever

If I could teach only one value to live by, it would be this: Success will come and go, but integrity is forever. Integrity means doing the right thing at all times and in all circumstances, whether or not anyone is watching. It takes having the courage to do the right thing, no matter what the consequences will be. Building a reputation of integrity takes years, but it takes only a second to lose, so never allow yourself to ever do anything that would damage your integrity.

We live in a world where integrity isn’t talked about nearly enough. We live in a world where “the end justifies the means” has become an acceptable school of thought for far too many. Sales people overpromise and under deliver, all in the name of making their quota for the month. Applicants exaggerate in job interviews because they desperately need a job. CEOs overstate their projected earnings because they don’t want the board of directors to replace them. Entrepreneurs overstate their pro formas because they want the highest valuation possible from an investor. Investors understate a company’s value in order to negotiate a lower valuation in a deal. Customer service representatives cover up a mistake they made because they are afraid the client will leave them. Employees call in “sick” because they don’t have any more paid time off when they actually just need to get their Christmas shopping done. The list could go on and on, and in each case the person committing the act of dishonesty told themselves they had a perfectly valid reason why the end result justified their lack of integrity.

Hmm, Integrity

Being at peace with yourself and others, while not polluting the air, not polluting the water, growing your own food, controlling your own health, relying on your own self defensive armed ability, resisting random ID checks, choosing heartfelt actions, following just law, refusing to be a debt slave, and as much as one is able, not relinquishing your liberty for what is already yours for the taking: energy, air, water, food, health, and mobility – that would be integrity. In all honesty, I keep trying to get to integrity, not there now, but just striving for it counts!

Only sorry this wasn't a DP original

so i guess i'll make one.

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.

My dad used to say; "When money is lost, nothing is lost...

...when health is lost, something is lost...

...but when reputation is lost, all is lost."

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

GREAT post! And it's the very reason I (we) love Ron Paul.

Dr. Paul defines integrity in my mind.

Sure, there are lots of good people with integrity in the world.

But what made Dr. Paul so unique is that he was in politics and was honest and consistently principled.

I can think of no other person in my lifetime who has held political office with the integrity of Ron Paul.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

the younger generation (some of them; I must not generalize) are struggling with this. By that I mean some of the finest young people I know (and love) are having a hard time 'getting' integrity--

but then I suppose all generations have struggled with this; otherwise, why would there be so much greed and violence in the world?

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

After studying integrity for a short time 12 years ago I came up with this definition: To me, integrity is when your thoughts, feelings and actions are all in sync with eachother.

Honesty or congruency

The thing about honesty is it's the truth and at some point it will surface.
What makes my honesty or congruency so important is about the lie's I may convince myself of.
Those are the worst kind, they are called denial or lying to oneself.
Like a drug addict or alcoholic that says no problem here!

Just watching some denial in the News the "Bush Library"
It is sad to watch, Bush Library at some point, history will bear him out and it will not be good.
Words that are going down in history will be "killed millions for nothing" will be found on the same line as some of the worst torturer dictator know to man.
Or America lost its way, under Bush.

Just think what history would say if he came clean now and said it was for the sweet oil, or I screwed up, what we did is wrong we need to stop.

"The quality of agreeing; being suitable and appropriate."
Examples of CONGRUENCY
"at least he acts in congruency with his avowed beliefs and values"
The huge thing about Ron Paul isn't that I agreed with everything he said, but I just can't find fault with anyone that says is like it is. in fact in today's politics he is one of maybe .005%
I can work with anyone that is who they say they are.

By the way money wise I am not in the 1% but my 99 works just fine because people hire me just because they know I can be trusted!

Just want what seems to be missing, Truth and Justice for ALL
What is fraud except creating “value” from nothing and passing it off as something?

M&M integrity lesson

I attended this amazing "self help" seminar years ago. One of the lessons was about integrity.
Most of us are like M&Ms. We have a candy coating on the outside, try to put on a good face for the world. Under our candy coating is a load of brown stuff... We try to hide our brown stuff with our candy coating, but it flavors all we do...
Down deep, hiding under the candy coating and the brown stuff is the peanut. Our core, who we really are.
Integrity is when your inner peanut busts free from the brown stuff and candy coating and shows itself to the world.
I think I just called all you people "nuts" but you know how to take it... lol!

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

What a wonderful analogy:

The word integrity has always been an important part of who I am.
Even if it is to my own detriment. Something I am most proud of.
I will remember the M&M story and share it.

I love my country
I am appalled by my government
