Should fishy run for office?

You all know my politics better than anyone in my neighborhood. What if I changed my mind, decided to give politics one more chance...

I want you to be honest, because I would be honest with the voters. I don't think abortion or marital status are any of the governments business, so I am not "Pro Life" or "pro gay marriage" but I am not "Pro Choice or "anti gay marriage" either. I guess you could say I am anti-marriage, no one should marry the government. And I am old enough to remember when women did not even announce pregnancies until the third month. I like that "keep it in the family" attitude, think it should be extended to the 18th birthday.
I'm not going to pretend I buy the 9-11 official story. Indeed, I'd be demanding to know who ordered the clean up on 9-12 and seek their arrest.

I'm not going to watch ANY tragedy unfold without asking, out loud, who is behind this? And I will ALWAYS look for government involvement in "high profile" events.

I won't play nice with the GOP. The Bushes are traitors, not heroes. Murderous in the extreme, linked to pedophile and human trafficking rings. I'm not going to sing their praises, not even a little.
In general, my platform would be "Vote for me because I don't want the job." I would promote self governance, with the Constitution as the framework for interactions among groups.

My slogan would be "ONLY TRUTH LIBERATES."

So, there you go. What do you think? Would you vote for me? Would you even want me to win, or would you donate to my opposition? Or if you were my neighbor, would you run against me?

You don't have to answer me, but you need to ask yourself. Because this is where we are - divided on issues to the point where we eat our own.

abortion is a deal breaker

I was always on the fence with this issue somewhat, my immediate family is all "pro-choice" but Ron Paul's influence led me to do more research and realize that abortion is murder. There are practically zero cases where it is necessary to kill the unborn baby in order to save the life of the mother. Most abortions are actually demanded by the man who foolishly planted the seed and doesn't want to have to care for his offspring and women often feel so pressured they go ahead and kill their own unborn child. I am thankful that my mother stood up to my father and my uncle who wanted me to be killed in the womb. To me there is no difference between killing a baby in the womb and killing a newborn. It is infanticide one way or the other in my opinion.

Do you think infants have a right to life? What do you think about "after birth abortion"?

I think that protecting people's right to life is one of the only arguably legitimate purposes of government, to me just because babies, born or unborn, can't speak up for themselves doesn't mean they aren't entitled to the same human rights as everyone else.

So that issue would be a deal breaker for me; I don't think I could in good conscience support another politician who didn't believe that all human beings have a right to life.

That being said I am 100% in agreement with everything else, I hope you can have a change of heart on the abortion issue please watch this documentary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7e_rbigBiI&sns=em

Let me ask you a question --

would you vote for her if you knew that the policies she supported would result in less abortions being performed, even though she didn't take a largely symbolic "tough on abortion" stand?

As I see it, if any true libertarian in office achieved their policy goals, whether or not they believed in outlawing all abortions, the following would occur:

Decreased poverty and increased wealth would result in many women who might consider abortion changing their mind because they felt they had adequate resources to take care of the child, RESULTING IN FEWER ABORTIONS.

Decreased poverty and increased wealth would result in one parent being able to forgo work and stay at home, allowing them to teach their daughters the knowledge and values needed to avoid teen pregnancy, and to value life at all stages, RESULTING IN FEWER ABORTIONS.

Abolishing government sponsored education would allow parents to choose an education for their children which would teach their values, not simply government approved values, RESULTING IN FEWER ABORTIONS.

Freeing up the adoption market would increase alternatives to abortion, RESULTING IN FEWER ABORTIONS.

Is your goal truly to reduce the frequency of abortions, or just to "feel good" about your "morally righteous stand?" If it the former, you should always vote for liberty minded individuals, even if they are pro choice.

And of course, what about the "right to life" of the now dead hundreds of thousands in our "War on Terror." Saving their lives comes as a bonus for electing fishy, even though they weren't in danger of being aborted.

You have to draw the line somewhere

There is always the question of pragmatism versus idealism. I have come to the conclusion that pragmatism leads to hell as everyone sells out their principles to support the lesser evil and we end up with evil in power. I want no part of it. If I can't find someone that will stand up for at least the most basic ideals and principles I hold than I am not going to waste my time or money supporting anyone. Not every issue is a deal breaker but this one is. I used to support "pro-choice" (pro-death?) politicians but I am personally tired of compromising on core principles.

But if her positions could save more people from being murdered by the government wouldn't that be a wash? Wouldn't knowingly voting for the opposite also be considered "pro-death"?

Knowingly voting for the opposite?

Who said I would do that? There is such a thing as abstaining. Anyway I don't subscribe to the logic that says if I fail to support one candidate who is a lesser evil then I am somehow automatically supporting another candidate who is a greater evil. If I choose not to support anyone I am equally opposing all evil candidates. This reminds me of when people were telling me I was supporting Obama because I didn't vote for Romney (and other people were of course telling me I was supporting Romney by not voting for Obama...), which is just silly since I was equally opposing both of them by writing in Ron Paul. Not supporting a candidate who is a lesser evil is not equivalent to supporting a more evil candidate. And no I don't think that abstaining and failing to vote for any pro-death candidates is pro-death the notion is preposterous.

I feel ya, but....

I agree with You that voting for the lessor of two evils when the RESULT would be the same is pointless. For example, a Romney or Obama vote is pointless.

Hypothetically, if RP were pro choice, would you abstain from voting for him too in a contest with McCain? By your definition, RP would be the lesser of two evils, and therefore you would not. If that one vote were the deciding factor, would the world be a better place, worse place or stay the same?

Yes, fishy. Your eyes are always focused on Liberty,....

and you are incorruptible. Just do not ever announce these things to your future constituents or especially to the people who will be funding your campaign. They may not want either.

No, no and no

People are starting to equate the Liberty movement with conspiracy too much as it is!

A nation of sheep breeds a government of wolves.

First of all please make sure this is the right thing for you to do. No ego involvement please...Make sure your motivation is pure.

Make damn sure you are prepared for alot of attacks from your opponents and you must know the constitution backwards and forward fishy. You should speak well, know your subject matter thoroughly and lookem right in the eye. Above all be firmn, kind, polite and honest. Oh, make sure you dress with propriety..God bless you and good luck..

I would like to run someday against Mike Honda (D) from California. I'm very sure there are better candidates out there than I, but if no one comes forward, I'm just might give it a wirl..

What do I have to lose?

If You Have to Ask the Question, the Answer is an Obvious No

But oh, according to your replies, you weren't really asking the question, were you?

I guess this "thought exercise" you dreamed up simply boils down to your need of an ego massage. On second thought, run for Congress, you'll fit right in!

run for sheriff or mayor

sheriff or mayor...
for those are the ONLY 2 positions that have a DIRECT effect on your life.

The mayor controls the local police. (hires police chief. decides what to be enforced.)
the sheriff controls his local police and all police in the county. (They decide what is to be enforced.)

who do they send to your house for raids? local swat. what is local swat? local police... control the police... that is how they control us.

I use Blue Wave, but don't expect one of THEIR silly taglines.

I'll only support your run if

I'll only support your run if you change your legal name to "Fishy Culture". That would be cool (not to mention headline-worthy).

What "Office" and At What Price?

Is this a career change? Do you need taxpayer money?

Are you considering a local position such as: town clerk, councilperson, or supervisor?

Maybe at the county level like: legislator, clerk or executive?
Perhaps for your state assembly, senate or governor?

Your post included the words, "GOP", "9/11" and "high profile" which suggests a loftier goal: The U.S. Congress. If you plan to emulate Dr. Paul's congressional service, that would be wonderful. I would be happy to contribute to your campaign fund raiser.

Otherwise please reconsider not doing it. An endeavor such as that would be demeaning because you'll have to learn to speak "politic", give evasive answers, and say not what's on your mind but what your constituents want to hear. You'll be coerced into compromising your principals, to go along to get along, to be a target for the myriad of lobbyists who will clamor for your attention and the media who will scrutinize your every move. You would be politically prohibited from going outside the mainstream "party" dogma or risk subjecting yourself to negative demagogy to be marginalized and scapegoated.

You really want to become that kind of person?

You have a family and a home here. Don't be seduced by a system that is completely corrupt and malevolent. Because the devil is there it will eventually destroy itself. Evil lives in the dark; don't go into that place. Stay in the light, with us.

Only run if you feel you are

Only run if you feel you are able to open people up to liberty ideas by being reasonable, eloquent, professional, etc., in a public forum.

If you come off as someone mainstream media-trained morons are conditioned to dislike, you will probably just make things worse.

A Tough Question For The Fish.....

If catching fish is all in the bait,
and you are a fisher of men,

"What kind of bait coulda, shoulda and woulda you use and why?"

Hint: The question is in reguards to what technique you would use win over hearts and minds and how would you do that

Yeah fishy, if ya get this question right or wrong, I'd still vote for ya.

Know that you'd have at least some support with us!

The decision is completely up to you. You have to want to do it, otherwise you'll be miserable having to put on all those fake smiles and having to bite your tongue. But if you do decide to run, know that you'd have support here from the DP community!

If you did decide to run, I'd volunteer to do some graphics for you. Here's one I did for TMOT's exploratory committee for US Senate, but Dr. Paul just endorsed his opponent! :/

It's always better to get off your butt than to remain on the sidelines. Heck you may even want to take some of that FACL training that you were so viciously critical of months ago.

It would probably be a lot more effective to try to influence your state legislature by starting a political non-profit than to run for a position as a third party candidate.
