Insane Bill Banning Bongs & Pipes Passes FL Senate 31-2Submitted by WildSatchmo on Mon, 04/29/2013 - 09:54
The ideological war over marijuana just took a misguided turn in Florida. FL HB 49 was passed on Friday by a 31 to 2 vote in the state senate. This ridiculous bill would ban:
"Metal, wooden, acrylic, glass, stone, plastic, or
ceramic smoking pipes, with or without screens, permanent
screens, or punctured metal bowls. Water pipes, Carburetion tubes and devices, Chamber pipes, Carburetor pipes, Electric pipes, Air-driven pipes, Chillums, Bongs, Ice pipes or chillers."
Here's a video from Colbert on the subject:
Please contact the Governor's office to try to persuade him not to sign this terrible bill. It is my understanding that he is in support of this garbage.
My Letter to Rick Scott:
"I am writing to express my deepest disgust with FL HB 49 which seeks to ban just about any device that could be used to smoke marijuana, or tobacco for that matter.
Personally, I am not a smoker, but this bill would still affect me and my community. This is not about supporting marijuana use, and would do nothing to curtail the habit. It is about the government's role in dictating behavior to it's citizens. It is at it's very core about freedom. Smoking devices can be improvised, purchased online, or imported from other states - which is exactly what would happen. This is a bill that will cost Florida money, jobs, and freedom all in one swoop of the pen.
I am honestly shocked that such an overreaching bill could ever pass our house let alone senate, especially with such broad support. Although it may be somehow well intended, it is a truly draconian piece of legislation.
This bill would immediately force thousands of productive business owners and their employees into unemployment lines.
Please veto this terrible bill, for the sake of freedom, for the sake of the economy, and for the sake of the countless Floridians whose very livelihood now hinges on your signature."
