Sports are gay

After the recent announcment by Jason Collins made him the first active NBA player (and I believe major US sports) to publicly admit to being homosexual, the floodgates to a larger issue in a new section of society have been broken.

Is this a big deal? Is this important? Why is the media jumping all over it?

Are there any Liberty issues that can be found amongst this coming tidal wave of discussion?

What say you? I welcome all viewpoints and opinions - this intrigues me.

Why is your title that sports are gay?

Your post underneath that doesn't follow up on that comment.

I was trying to draw attention :)

I was also alluding to the future of sports that I discussed with a co-worker: there will be rainbow jerseys to show 'support and acceptance' and all kinds of other things that will be marched out.

I'm just offput by the potential for a barage of social and/or issue(s) being pushed through sports (something I enjoy and use to distract me from politics/social issues.)

I'm sure the phone is ringing off the hooks for everone associated with the team. It will be interesting to see what the market does.. will fans and supporters give them more money.. are the teams items flying off the shelves? is that a one time thing, or is there an economic future here? MSM is going to profit off the sensationalism..

my wife thinks

he did this just to get some attention and to get a contract - apparently he is a free agent.

I have no idea if he still has NBA talent. We will see.

Some team may snatch him up just for the publicity.

Hey everyone.... I AM GAY!

Hey everyone.... I AM GAY! Now where is my parade and 15 minutes?
Next week I will reveal that I am in the country illegally and work for minimum wage.

(Honestly this NBA stuff seems contrived. NBA finals going on, most luddites are focused on their TVs so asking this guy to come out and the media were ready and willing to jump on it)
