NSSF = RINOs of GunWorld: Campaigning to 'Fix' the UnConstitutional Clinton-Brady NICS System!

Question of the Day: FixNICS or Ditch NICS? [DITCH the Idiocy!]

Posted on April 30, 2013 by Robert Farago

Imagine a database of every American’s mental health records. Why? Why imagine that? What business does the government have knowing every citizens’ medical treatment for mental health? To stop mentally ill people from buying guns legally, of course. Hello? If those records are added to the FBI’s NICS all a gun grabbing government has to do is raise the bar for gun purchase or, indeed, ownership. Are you on anti-depressants? No firearm for you. That little move would DQ (disqualify) over 20 million people. Some 20 percent of Americans currently suffer from some form of mental illness. Yup. Sixty-two million people. Depending on how you define mental illness, of course. Is that something we should leave to the FBI? In that sense, the NSSF’s FixNICS campaign is deeply misguided. Your thoughts?

'Shills of the gun industry' trying to expand 'prohibited purchaser' list

We hear a lot in anti-gun circles (which would include the President and most of the Democrat Party, and most of the mass media) these days about the evils of the "gun lobby" (and by "gun lobby," they generally mean the NRA, despite the gun lobby being something else entirely). Furthermore, we are told that "the gun lobby" (which, remember, is being used as just another term for the NRA) is motivated only by fealty to its gun industry masters, and the desire to protect industry profits.

The Violence Policy Center is probably the most obsessed on the "issue" (just a few examples from their executive director, Josh Sugarmann), but they are joined by the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, the Brady Campaign, and even President Obama himself--and many others. And it's simply not true. The NRA gets the majority of its funding through membership fees, with other gun rights groups probably relying even more heavily on dues.

Granted, the interests of gun rights groups and the gun industry often intersect (although not always), but that's an inevitable when an industry produces a commodity, the ownership and use of which is a Constitutionally guaranteed fundamental human right, but is nevertheless under constant attack by groups with no loyalty to the Constitution.

ADDENDUM: For those who maybe unfamiliar with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, here's some background info

The NSSF is the REAL 'gun industry lobbyists' actually based in NewTown, Connecticut, though often characterized as NRA's sister organization because some over-crossing board membership. Be that as it may, as far as I can find, technically, at least on paper, they seem to be two wholly separate organizations.

About National Shooting Sports Foundation

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is the trade association for the shooting, hunting and firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 7,000 manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen's organizations and publishers.

They make a lot of good how-to videos and primers, and happens to have the timely distinction of having led the renovation of Camp David Shotgun/Skeet Shooting Range, as per the 'Skeet-Gate.'

But truly, NSSF seems even more Milquetoast than the NRA, let alone the GOA! In some sense, as an industry/manufacturers' lobby, their relatively moderate stance is to be expected. But, now to re-hash the NRA's idiotic old line of "Fix the NICS!" to spearhead an utterly anti-gun crusade? Talk about a Judas move.

Now, they're simply actively undermining our natural right of self-defense!

Oy veh.
