I did not know Rand Paul was in a secret society in college.

I was trying to figure out if Rand was a member of ASCRS, the group that walked out of the Obamacare meeting. What I found was sort of a shock. He was part of a secret society called NoZe Brothers. It is not "Skull and Bones." In fact, it sounds like a fun bunch, pranksters. But the list of other members is a little creepy... I am not trying to say anything about Rand or his involvement or even this group, I just was surprised to find out.

sounds liek a fun group

If I had gone to Baylor I'd have tried to Unrush probably. Anyway, I see Rands involvement as a good thing, it probably means he has the requisite sense of humor to be a good leader, and to deal with all the turds that the left will try to shovel on him.

I once had a Nun in grade

I once had a Nun in grade school with a big nose. We used to call her "Nose". The other students played a trick on her, standing against the wall appearing to hold it up saying, "Sister Sister the wall is falling down, go tell the Principle", she ran down the stairs to the principals office. True story.

Yes

I was in a social fraternity, too! Nothing worth getting myself worked up about!

Lawrence O'Donnell is about to slam Ron and Rand on his

're-write' part of his show. Tune in to get pissed off.

He's calling Ron Paul a liar and his op-ed is full of lies.

I guess O'Donnell needs ratings.

Like Anything Else, Who Could You Trust To Keep Any Secret?

Look! Jesus chose Judas and Judas betrayed him, didn't he? It is very hard to keep a secret for very long. Eventually many figure it all out.

Good luck with that idea..

Why does some people think

Why does some people think secret societies are bad and evil? A lot of times they are necessary and good. They were necessary and good when nations were controlled by religious fanatics and tyrants and you weren't allowed to question anything, thus the reason they had to be secret or they would be killed.

Same way secret societies played part in the American revolution so they could discuss fighting the UK empire without public scrutiny, During the world wars there were secret societies joining to fight nazis and other despots because otherwise they would, be killed.

The Illuminati was started because of the religious intolerance n an effort to have free discussions of politics, religion and other things not allowed by the church at that time. Such society were the pilar of the revolution in the US and other places and have essentially brought freedom around the world. Remember if you questioned the church back then you would be burned at the stake. This is what prompted people to meet in secret. Masonry, for example, started as a rebellion against Church control.

There is just so much misconception around it, and it was the Church that made secret societies "evil" in an effort to eradicate them, same way Government label freedom fighters terrorists today.

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

I would still wager that secret societies..

on the balance of their merits would prove bad most always. Although, unlikely to be all bad, the secrecy serves to mask the parts that are bad and perpetuate the behaviors others would deem bad. Perhaps, in times where virtue can be found in organizations of minority beliefs, gangs or resistance groups, then their would be elements of good maintained by secrecy. But this would imply competing conceptions of what is good. It also implies that arguing for your competing conceptions of goodness in the open is of less value than being secretive about it. Although the former is likely true often, the latter is probably rarely true.

I think secret organizations could only be morally justified in times where you would have to commit yourself to being a criminal, or a vilified individual, just to maintain your own sense of moral goodness. This probably isn't going to apply to some college fraternity, which at its best just hides the drugs, sex, alcohol and general shenanigans that goes along with being an adolescent.

Kennedy said something I believe fully. He said,

"The very word “secrecy” is repugnant in a free and open society. And we are as a people, inherently and historically, opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths, and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago, that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweigh the dangers which are are cited to justify it."

I did not say they were all bad, I said I did not know.

I actually specifically said I was NOT saying anything bad about the group, but some of the members are not nice people.
Why do some people object to any topic, and twist the topic to something it was not in order to object to it?

Agreed

I am tempted to make the DP a secret society. Or at least part of it.

He's the man.

I'm In

That is, if you would be willing to offer me a bid card, and let me attemp to rush this society. You'll probably need mortal remains for your secret ceremonies though...so that blabbermouths know what awaits those who betray the secrets of the order:)

If we deny truth before your very eyes, then the rest of what we have to say,is of little consequence

I fully endorse this idea.

I think you should make part of the DailyPaul secret and only let certain people into it. Call it ΔΠ (delta pi for DP). Do not let in any of the conspiracy theorists and watch them go apeshit wondering what we are plotting.

I read

An article on this. The Left was claiming that the NoZe Brothers bashed Christianity? Is that true?

I don't think any baptists

I don't think any baptists that believe in consuming alcohol or fornicating before marriage will be joining their ranks. They may satire religion, but open bashing I never saw any.
