that's why I'm loaded to the eyeballz with old 90% US coins. I'm yet to ever see old mercury dime counterfeits.

in the video he says these are faked, too.

All you need is a scale, a strong magnet, and a good ear. When I buy rolls from eBay I weigh every coin. I also look at feedback. That ping test is retarded and a good way to ruin a coin (if you care about numismatic crap). All it takes is to hear it fall over on a counter and bounce around on its face. I find that silver coins don't ring very much. They sound like plastic. They sound fake compared to circulated clad coins if you're just getting into metals. Clad coins ring a lot. The opposite behavior dictated this video.

If they are 1 troy ounce and fake, they aren't going to be dimensionally correct. The same applies to gold and tungsten, but it's harder to spot because they are so close in density.

Excuse me?

I watched the video. You can't make a silver-plated or non-silver coin that is 1 troy ounce be the same dimensions as the real deal. They will be bigger. If you have a counterfeit that is the same size, it's going to be lighter. Tungsten works with gold, but not for huge amounts. I guarantee you that there are no counterfeit bank ingots (400 troy ounces). They are heavily scrutinized. It would be simple to spot with a ruler and a scale.

I did the ping test and it dented my coin

Not recommended.

Scary to learn these weigh one troy ounce on a digital scale, and how every mint, including many private issuers are being forged.

That said, if you can't tell them apart, what's the difference.

Easy, killer!

It's a "ping" test, not a "feats of strength" event! A light tap is all it takes, and it is something anyone can easily learn to do.

Love or fear? Chose again with every breath.

just a warning label to those who want to practice.

=)

actually the dents were in the small detail of the coin that was more susceptible to taking a hit. i didnt think i was hitting it that hard.

APMEX is pretty trust worthy,
