Harmless E-Cig Use To Be Banned Everywhere in California

If you thought California couldn't get any more absurd, you perhaps haven't seen Senate Bill SB 648 yet.

Written by politicians so stupid there should be a law to prevent them reproducing, it proposes that e-cigs should face the same restrictions as the already hysterical ones pertaining to tobacco. Here is the base clause.

The Legislature finds and declares that the use of electronic cigarettes [...] is a hazard to the health of the general public. Any reference in this chapter to, or any prohibition of, the smoking of tobacco shall also be construed to refer to the use of electronic cigarettes.

Yes. They really are saying that e-cig vapour is - according to them - a proven danger to others. Passive vaping, in other words. There is not a jot of scientific evidence behind this, of course - nor will there ever be - but California has declared it anyway.

Not sure they should make another law

but these e-cigs are far from harmless. I thought about trying them to quit smoking..my first puff I knew it was loaded with chemicals.
Here is an article from Natural news.

I like Natural News

but that article is pure garbage and proves exactly how much they know about the eCig industry: Nothing. The free market is doing a WONDERFUL job of providing a MYRIAD of eLiquid (nicotine) varieties. Around me, there are at least three shops that sell 100% certified organic eLiquid with no chemicals. Even the few vaporized carcinogens that chemical-laden eLiquid puts into people's lugs pales in comparison to the amount that cigarettes do. To call it "trading one bad habit for another" and scaring people away from a wonderful alternative to tobacco with propaganda is ridiculous. Me and at least 10 of my friends have quit smoking because of eCigarettes, and the effects don't lie. You can breathe again, you stop coughing crud up in the morning, etc. Whoever wrote that article has clearly never been a smoker and has clearly never used the product they're lambasting.

I'm not gonna get up on a soapbox here and tell people that nicotine isn't bad for you; it is. It's a stimulant, and like all stimulants, it's not the best thing you can do for your heart. But simply consuming nicotine without the smoke or carcinogens is about as bad for your heart as drinking a few too many cups of coffee a day, as most Americans do. Same net effect.

Never seen the Organic ones

But the others have propylene glycol..I would much rather smoke organic tobacco than put that into my body any day. Propylene glycol is some pretty nasty stuff they put into allot of processed foods.

Even non-organic e-liquids use VG as opposed to PG.

South Beach Smoke, GreenSmoke, nJoy, and plenty of other major providers that don't use organic still use vegetable glycol as opposed to propylene. In fact, most eCig companies are slowly phasing out PG altogether.

As someone who's done it all, from smoking packs of the grossest stuff out there to rolling my own using organic import to vaping PG, VG, and organic, I can tell you that you're fooling yourself if you think that "organic" tobacco is more safe than ANY form of nicotine vapor. The carcinogenic effects are not even comparable. For hundreds of years, ALL tobacco was organically grown, and it was in this era that the Surgeon General's Warning first appeared.

There are forms of vaping that are safer than others, but NO form of tobacco is as safe as vaping.

Is natural news a proponent of free markets?

It doesn't really seem like it. While they maybe bringing forward legitimate concerns with regards to e-cigarettes the solution they are hollering for are not free market friendly at all:

"There are currently no regulations whatsoever of the ingredients in e-cigs, and no age restrictions for purchasing them either."

Are regulations and restrictions the solution? Did that work for tobacco?

From first hand experience

i've passed by and had the "vapor" blown in my face, only to feel my heart racing moments later. Sure, there's no smoke in it, but there is nicotine.

More likely your physical response was due to being bombarded

with fear inducing junk science for so long that you have fully internalized the J.S. so that anything appearing Cig/Cig smoke induces an anxiety attack.

Physical symptoms of anxiety

Anxiety is more than just a feeling. As a product of the body’s fight-or-flight response, anxiety involves a wide range of physical symptoms. Because of the numerous physical symptoms, anxiety sufferers often mistake their disorder for a medical illness. They may visit many doctors and make numerous trips to the hospital before their anxiety disorder is discovered.

Common physical symptoms of anxiety include:

Pounding heart
Stomach upset or dizziness
Frequent urination or diarrhea
Shortness of breath

Tremors and twitches
Muscle tension

Great deduction!

So many people want to ban everything! I think they need a little schooling in liberty! So much of the junk, put out on safety, is just plain junk science!

Thanks Michael

I think some generally valid inferences on the power of propaganda can be drawn from sampling the reactions of U.S. adults on the topics of Cig health hazards, "Terrorism", Global Warming/Climate Change and "Gun Violence" particularly among many others created from whole cloth views.

Actually the person blowing the smoke violated PRRedlin's rights to freely travel without harrassment. In much the same way you wouldn't want some to pee on you while walking (unless walking in the urinal for some reason).

Can't have it both ways... demanding the freedom to put a substance in your own body and then expect others to accommodate you by curtailing their rights.

it's simple

to me that they see e-cigs as an insult and circumvention of their intentions. It minimizes the all out assault on "the smoker". They see the smoker as independent and not accepting of their laws and want to crush that. How dare you work around their laws?

Agreed and there are other

PTB agendas that spawn similarly illogical legislation.

Great point in comments below

Great point in comments below the article... If a person uses 0MG NS in other words no tobacco product and vapes flavored juice only the law does not apply. How can they prove if the juice is 0MG or 24MG? Can they simply stop anyone and force them to submit juice to a test? Very interesting thoughts. It would be the same as rootbeer is to real beer. Both come in a can. The fog is now the same as what a fog machine produces with food flavor (all food products).

Are they going to ban

Are they going to ban Pressure Cookers? They have solid proof they are dangerous and hazardous to public health. You don't even need to be using it just walking by one in use can cause death!

I think they come with warnings of possible explosion, while cooking with them! Yes, they are potentially, very dangerous!

When my husband was a paramedic

he took a continuing ed course where they taught how to look out for "hidden dangers." They told him that TOUCHING someone on LSD could make him hallucinate, that their sweat could hold enough acid to make him trip. We had a good gut roll over that. There were a WHOLE LOT of people in the 60's and seventies taking acid and holding hands... bet they wish they had known that only one of them had to actually TAKE the acid...
The other tip that cracked us up: Occultists might have pentagrams hidden under the rug and if you step on it they will kill you. They actually advised these men who were responding to strokes, heart attacks, etc. to lift every rug before they walked on it. Talk about paranoid!

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

This is so ridiculous. The

This is so ridiculous. The federal government pretends to combat the ill effects of smoking by taxing and regulating tobacco, which ends up hurting the very people they are pretending to help.

When the free market took up the challenge of the unhealthy effects of smoking, it invented a cigarette that wasn't unhealthy, and had many other benefits to boot. The invention of vaping is quite literally saving lives, and causing a nice little business boom to boot.

Gee, who would you rather put in charge of this kind of policy?

This is all just more heavy handed protectionism of the cartels that are running our lives.
