Police: Suspect in eel-smuggling operation fought officer, on the loose

HAMPTON, N.H. —New Hampshire Fish and Game and state police are actively searching for a suspect they believe is involved in an international eel-smuggling operation.

Police attempted to arrest the man earlier Friday, but he escaped wearing a set of handcuffs on one hand. The state police chopper and several K-9 units are searching the area of Route 1 in Hampton.

A Fish and Game officer got a tip that two men suspected in illegally fishing eels off the New Hampshire coast would be in Hampton around 4:30 a.m. The officer made contact and arrested one suspect. When he tried to put handcuffs on the second suspect, the second suspect began fighting with the sole officer, was pepper-sprayed and then took off into the woods.

Oh no, not Eel smugglers!

How terrifying!

How will we ever be safe, so long as there are people out there smuggling Eels!?!?

This guy is a hero in my book.

Anyone who brings a good or service prohibited by the State to market, is a hero in my book (so long as the NAP is not violated).
