FORBES: Cody Wilson keeps his Promise; The Liberator, the World's 1st 100% 3D Printed FireArm!

To Liberty!

** Except for the firing pin and barrel (as to comply w/1988 Undetectable Firearms Act), it's 100% 3D-printed polymer. Looks aside, the point is the proof of concept. To that end, it's a success:

All sixteen pieces of the Liberator prototype were printed in ABS plastic with a Dimension SST printer from 3D printing company Stratasys, with the exception of a single nail that’s used as a firing pin. The gun is designed to fire standard handgun rounds, using interchangeable barrels for different calibers of ammunition.

And predictably, it already has a traitorous Constitutionally clueless public servant 'up in arms:'

Update: Defense Distributed’s political opponents aren’t waiting around for its printable gun to be finished and uploaded before calling for it to be banned. Congressman Steve Israel issued a press release Friday responding to this story: “Security checkpoints, background checks, and gun regulations will do little good if criminals can print plastic firearms at home and bring those firearms through metal detectors with no one the wiser,” his statement reads. “When I started talking about the issue of plastic firearms months ago, I was told the idea of a plastic gun is science-fiction. Now that this technology is proven, we need to act now to extend the ban [on] plastic firearms.”

Eight months ago, Cody Wilson set out to create the world’s first entirely 3D-printable handgun.

Now he has.

Early next week, Wilson, a 25-year University of Texas law student and founder of the non-profit group Defense Distributed, plans to release the 3D-printable CAD files for a gun he calls “the Liberator,” pictured in its initial form above. He’s agreed to let me document the process of the gun’s creation, so long as I don’t publish details of its mechanics or its testing until it’s been proven to work reliably and the file has been uploaded to Defense Distributed’s online collection of printable gun blueprints at Defcad.org.

** For those who may not be familiar, the name "Liberator" is an homage to the stamped steel, single shot .45ACP pistol manufactured by GM's lamp division for OSS; they airdropped these to WWII Resistance fighters in occupied territories. The intended use was for the freedom fighter to get up close and personal with a Nazi scum, shoot them from behind, and to arm themselves with more significant firepower by taking their Mausers, assault rifles & SMGs as battlefield pickups.

The future just got a lot scarier.

A Texas company is set to release blueprints online that could be used to make a plastic gun with a 3D printer, Sen. Charles Schumer warned Sunday.

The non-profit, Defense Distributed, announced last week it made a working plastic gun using a 3D printer - and said it plans to post the blueprints for “The Liberator” online this week.

The BBC's Rebecca Morelle saw the 3D-printed gun's first test in Austin, Texas

The world's first gun made with 3D printer technology has been successfully fired in the US.

The controversial group which created the firearm, Defense Distributed, plans to make the blueprints available online.

The group has spent a year trying to create the firearm, which was successfully tested on Saturday at a firing range south of Austin, Texas.

Anti-gun campaigners have criticised the project.

“Alright. One…two…”

Before “three” arrives, a shot reverberates across the overcast central Texas landscape. A tall, sandy blond engineer named John has just pulled a twenty-foot length of yellow string tied to a trigger, which has successfully fired the world’s first entirely 3D-printed gun for the very first time, rocketing a .380 caliber bullet into a berm of dirt and prairie brush.

“Fuckin’ A!” yells John, who has asked me not to publish his full name. He hurries over to examine the firearm bolted to an aluminum frame. But the first to get there is Cody Wilson, a square-jawed and stubbled 25 year-old in a polo shirt and baseball cap. John may have pulled the trigger, but the gun is Wilson’s brainchild. He’s spent more than a year dreaming of its creation, and dubbed it “the Liberator” in an homage to the cheap, one-shot pistols designed to be air-dropped by the Allies over France during its Nazi occupation in World War II.

Unlike the original, steel Liberator, though, Wilson’s weapon is almost entirely plastic: Fifteen of its 16 pieces have been created inside an $8,000 second-hand Stratasys Dimension SST 3D printer, a machine that lays down threads of melted polymer that add up to precisely-shaped solid objects just as easily as a traditional printer lays ink on a page. The only non-printed piece is a common hardware store nail used as its firing pin.

A Gun, a Printer, an Ideology

Last summer, Cody Wilson, a law student at the University of Texas at Austin, announced plans to design and print a working gun using a 3-D printer, a device that can quickly produce simple, solid objects out of melted plastic from digital schematics. Last weekend, Wilson accomplished his dream: he successfully fired his self-designed plastic handgun, called the Liberator, at a private gun range north of Austin. You can now download the design on the Web site of Defense Distributed, the nonprofit organization that Wilson established with some like-minded compatriots.

In a technology industry notorious for unearned epochal pronouncements, it’s tempting to say that this development doesn’t mean much. After all, the United States is already awash in firearms, and it’s relatively easy and affordable to procure a gun far more powerful than the one that Wilson demonstrated. But Wilson’s project is significant—and not only because 3-D printing hobbyists all over the world will now be able to modify and manufacture their own cheap, virtually untraceable guns. More important is what Wilson’s work and the “Wiki Weapon” community at large represent: the fusion of ultra-libertarian politics and a prophesied manufacturing revolution fuelled by 3-D printing.

RON PAUL 2012

Yup. Also, Def.Dist. is now an ATF-licensed manufacturer,

but as you alluded, even before their ATF 'allowance,' any individual could already 'lawfully' make their own guns for private use as long as it was not sold, provided the home made gun design doesn't 'violate' 1934 NFA 'prohibitions': full-auto/select-fire, SBR, SBS, etc.

but since Def.Dist. is now an ATF-licensee, they can technically sell these guns across US if they throw in a bike 'trigger lock,' not just let others freely download/3D-print, as they are already. LOL.

sure, if we lived in a fair universe, ATF would've been abolished, along with repealing ALL 'gun control' laws on the books from NFA to Brady NICS. and interstate commerce shouldn't even be an issue with pre-Constitution natural right of self-defense, but alas, the statist-CON continues, and the freedom fighters keep on resistin' .o)

Yeah but by making your own gun you are not buying one from a manufacturer from a different state and that market difference thus makes it fall under interstate commerce...

Working gun made with 3D printer

By Rebecca Morelle Science reporter, BBC World Service, Texas

The BBC's Rebecca Morelle saw the 3D-printed gun's first test in Austin, Texas

The world's first gun made with 3D printer technology has been successfully fired in the US.

The controversial group which created the firearm, Defense Distributed, plans to make the blueprints available online.

The group has spent a year trying to create the firearm, which was successfully tested on Saturday at a firing range south of Austin, Texas.

Anti-gun campaigners have criticised the project.

This one shot gun was in a Brian Daley book "Requiem for a Ruler of World"

"THE EMANCIPATOR PISTOL. THIS MASS-PRODUCED WEAPON WAS

The Cops will hate this gun with a passion.

This whole thing makes me

This whole thing makes me laugh. Making one's own firearm has always been within the reach of people with specialized skills. Add working with 3D modeling software and rapid prototype machine to the list of skills that can get one there. It's no more fearsome than someone learning blacksmithing and making a musket.

I've seen photos of the parts of this gun. In FDM it will break. A handful of cycles I think if one is lucky. It's about as fearsome as a zip gun. Replace about half dozen parts with metal and it will work longer.

The difference is that today there is a vast majority of people who are full of fear and have no clue how to make things or how things are made. Bunch of helpless paranoid children. In the 1950s the guy down the block was machinist could make his own gun and people were like 'so what?' to 'that's neat', but today people are afraid. lol.

We got to get people back into the business of making things before this whole country falls to crap.

"Big deal"

I read the "big deal" comments on this thread and shake my head. It is true that people can machine their own weapons before this plastic gun idea came about. Heck, I've even seen a forum thread where a guy documented making an AK47 out of a flat shovel. However, I see a similarity to free speech. I can imagine that the same "big deal" comments came about with the onset of the internet. "Big deal, people have been printing newspapers and books for centuries, anyone can do it." Despite the technology being there, not everyone had a small printing press and put out newsletters, etc.

I see this becoming huge in a different way: Rendering the big gun manufacturers obsolete. Think about that for a minute. Would you pay several hundred to several thousand dollars if you could print a gun at home for less? Companies like Remington and S&W might find them struggling the way the printed newspaper companies find themselves struggling. I doubt DHS will be printing guns any time soon, if ever. I think gun ownership is somewhere around 25% here in the US, and way lower worldwide. However, 3D printer ownership may go extremely high within the next 20 years. If that is the case, then 100% gun ownership is really only a few hours away at that point, depending on printer speeds.

Currently, freedom is a background check away and for some states, 3 to 7 days, even longer in some states and entirely forbidden in most nations. With 3D printed guns, freedom is only as far away as the nearest 3D printer. 7 billion people in this world, tyranny is screwed if they all start printing guns.

full of fear, indeed,

would you believe it was only as 'far' back as the 1980's...IN New York that you could carry your afterschool rifle team's .22LR bolt-action, slung over your shoulders, and walk the school hallways, and your teachers would merely greet ya with: "Hey Jimmy, is it zeroed properly?" to which Jimmy would answer "sure thing, Ms. Channing!"

No SWAT-ing, No 'resource' officers in school, No metal detectors, No CCTV's, not AS MUCH pedophile public school teachers...LOL

Congressman Steve Israel is an idiot

Go ahead and ban plastic guns, sir. By the time the average law-abiding human has had his freedom to own firearms reduced to having to print a plastic gun, he will not care if it is legal or not.

I don't need to print a plastic gun but I will still be downloading the plans when they are available. I have my metal guns and I prefer those. However, if at some point in the future a plastic gun is the only thing standing between me and freedom from tyranny, I will CTRL-P my way to freedom.

Wow, look at all the posts marked down on how to make real guns

The posts with links showing real home made guns, not plastic, are downvoted the most. They're easy and cheap to make, been around for awhile, and they sure aren't made of plastic.

That tells me a lot about some of the posters. They don't want people to have real homemade guns.

Cody was already discussed as being a Marxist before on Daily Paul.

http://www.dailypaul.com/278933/printable-3d-gun-creator-mee...

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

"They don't want people to have real homemade guns."

"They don't want people to have real homemade guns."

It really boils down to an attack on 3D printing itself.

The only way to stop it would be to put out propaganda showing a bunch of Anarchists printing Lego-guns and dreaming about how they're going to take over with them.

"They're easy and cheap to make, been around for awhile, and they sure aren't made of plastic."

You're absolutely right. This is like offering an Anarchist a plastic sword and killing them should they try to fight with it. It serves no worthwhile purpose unless your purpose is to demonize and regulate 3D printing. They can't even tell you what they intend to do with their Lego-Guns. Even a real sword would serve no worthwhile purpose in an Anarchists hands. It would serve nothing but evil.

Anarchists are their own worst enemies and I don't believe they're as stupid they pretend to be.

I've watched them do that

I've watched them do that through the years to kids and emerging industries.

They did it to computers. They did it to chemistry again a few years ago when kids got interested in chemistry.

They make the new technology look as scary as possible, than go after the best and brightest kids after encouraging them to look that way, and pass laws. They do it again and again. And that's after their friends outside congress and in the media did their best to get the kids to dress up in Halloween costume. Meanwhile, they will look real proper in suit and tie, and nudge themselves over having tricked some intelligent kids - and maybe ruined their lives.

Hey you - yes - you. Maybe intelligent kids just AREN'T EVIL.

Here it's a two for one. Go after 3d printing, Make bright kids look scary (again - cultural revolution in slow motion aka communist china), and guns too.

Meanwhile, it's over tinker toy (actually lego) guns.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

you're making the same baseless accusation there, as here:

Cody's educational and philosophic background story discussion start around 10:30, but the relevant portion to your "Marxist" accusation start around 10:52 mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=XK6...

TRANSCRIPT:

AJ: Who are your political Heroes? I mean, what woke you up?

CW: Ha ha ha. I like Camus**, man. I like... Michel Foucault I like...ah...French Social Theorists; the people that aren't typically named by Americans, I guess.

But ah...I like people who..who just tried to radicalize [as in: of or pertaining to the root of a word or matter] students and conservatives and say: 'You know what? Things are about liberty. They're not about politics. They're not about Democrats...

(interrupted)

AJ: I agree.

(overtalk)

CW: (Continuing) ...and Republicans. It's about Liberty.' And...

(interrupt)

AJ: It's about 'Are you for freedom, or are you not?'

CW: Yes, 'are you gonna resist? or...'

(interrupt, overtalk)

AJ: They want to make it about 'Left' and 'Right' to confuse it and muddle it.

CW: Precisely, so...I'm an anarchist [Cody can't get any more clearer than that!] and the anarchist tradition is something I read a lot about, lately. So, you 'could say' anarchism is the school that I subscribe to. But, I believe that, that's a very rich school and a neglected school, ESPECIALLY POST-Marxist experience.

There's a lot of cool things happening in the world on the internet, right now, that's...you're gonna make Marxism *scoffs* not irrelevant, but anarchism VERY RELEVANT.

AJ: Well, I mean as you know Marx and others actually talked about total manufacturing, you know private factories and how that would empower everybody, but the Globalists have actually used it, as a way to control the means of production, with the cheap production, but then have...sell our souls for baubels...and so they've kinda reversed that whole paradigm.

CW: This is the problem with "Progressivism," which tries to identify itself as "Leftist." And, I don't think it is! Because all they love is MONOPOLY capitalism; they say: 'Well, we're all about "equality"...but let's control it with corporations and the govt!'

You know...right? It's RIDICULOUS to me! You know, so I think in many meaningful ways, I'm a REAL 'Leftist' [Classical Liberal, ie. libertarian in contemporary parlance], and these "Progressives" aren't, and these "Liberals" aren't! They're all...N..Neither parties in America challenges...

(interrupted)

AJ: Well...a [Classical] "liberal" would want the individual to be totally empowered. Instead, these people are the opposite; they're more like Borg, or space aliens.

CW: Right! They [the fake liberals/Progressives/Marxists/Socialists/Statists] believe: 'I can empower you the best...by empowering you at the end of a barrel of some institutional gun.'

(Cody, now fingering a 'gun gesture,' jokingly) You know: 'you're gonna be, you're gonna be "equal," or else!' LOL Ha ha ha! You know?

AJ: (agreeing) But then, they don't; all they create is division: turn on MSNBC.

CW: Yeah, it's lazy...it's lazy moralisms disguised as meaningful politics.

AJ: Exactly! They 'claim' they're all these nice thing, when they're monsters.

CW: Yeah for...probable... Well, and they believe: 'Well, the most efficient way we can get things done, is to uh...centralize power, and force you to do things!'

Because it's just ah... it's just...(gesturing like a God's hand is throwing candies down to the humans below) Socialism from above. You know?

He's a Marxist

11:30

I love it. Even Alex knows what he is, and goes right into talking about what he actually is.

He's right in saying that "progressives" aren't Marxists or Communists, but rather Fascists, Socialists merging state and corporate power to control industry and labor, but that doesn't make him any less a Marxist or negate his error.

The best part is that creepy I'm-a-closet-Commie look he gives after mixing up his euphemisms.

So he's a communist anarchist

So he's a communist anarchist, and coughs disingenuously after saying Marxist (cough cough).

So what?

How does that change one whit he's selling worthless plastic ZIP guns as something new?

Guns aren't that hard to make. And a lot better than plastic junk.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

oh, so I 'get' it,

so you didn't bother to read, or watch the very interview that you claim that he says he's Marxist?

I gave you vid, links, who the philosophers he speaks of are, what the pros and cons of current ABS 3D print tech is, where it's headed, and all you got is: the utterly Glenn Beck-ian simpleton 'he's a Marxist! blah blah blah! Zipgun blah blah blah!'??

and you expect anyone to take you seriously? If you actually watched the interview, read the transcript and saw that as him proclaiming to be a Marxist, in what universe does anyone with common sense, let alone narrative flow-comprehension, confuse the two??

enjoy talking to yourself. For those interested in actual dialog, commence away.

cheerio MaxK, this will be my last reply to you on the matter.
