Who are our enemies?Submitted by Silk Shirt on Fri, 05/03/2013 - 19:15
I watched a movie last night involving the left wing radical group the weather underground called "The company you keep". While it was an average film (I gave it 2 stars for those who are interested) it made me question just who our political enemies are.
The characters in the film are anti-government and understand the role government plays in oppressing freedom (at home and abroad) and end up resorting to organised violent resistance (always the worst idea you can have) which puts them on the run for years to come.
They are so called marxist terrorists and while I do not agree with political views of this nature the idea of being anti-government is similar to a classical liberal idea of minimal government.
We all have friends and family who hold what we would consider socialist views but it is important to emphasize that these people are not our enemy but maybe they just need a little reasoned discussion to bring them around to the idea that big government is the main problem.
Maybe we just need to talk about how government tries to control every aspect of our lives and how we can reduce that (which almost everyone agrees with when you talk rationally with them) instead of fighting over who is voting red and who is voting blue.
