!: Syria and Isreal at war?

Damascus, Syria (CNN) -- A Syrian official called an attack Sunday on the nation's military research facility a "declaration of war" by Israel.

In an interview with CNN, Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al Mekdad said the attack represented an alliance between Islamic terrorists and Israel.

He added that Syria would retaliate against Israel in its own time and way.

My guess is...

Israel is trying to provoke Syria into retaliating, so they can say "Look Uncle Sam, Syria hit me!"

I really hope they don't drag us into a conventional war.

Our criminal covert war in Syria is bad enough.

It is also unquestionable that Israel threw the first punch, and they have committed an act of war.

Correct me if I'm wrong. If

Correct me if I'm wrong. If the U.S. gets involved wouldn't that mean instant financial crisis? Isn't Syria the last major tie with the petro dollar?

Beep beep boop beep... I am a Paulbot... prepare for liberty and prosperity!

Syria doesn't have Oil

But they are a strategic ally with Iran.

IMHO what we are seeing is the beginning of the Iran v Israel War.

Israel must cut off Hezbollah, and destroy them before they can risk a direct attack on Iran, because retaliation would come from Hezbollah in Lebanon, and not directly from the Iranian homeland.

I think the US will stay on the sidelines (other than intelligence, and weapons aid), unless Israel runs into more trouble than it anticipates. Last time Hezbollah was much tougher than Israel expected.

I expect the next step to be Israeli ground troops in Lebanon - to create a buffer so small missles cannot be fired into Israel. Syria can not intervene because they are busy fighting the Rebels.

With their northern border secure, the Israeli air force can hit Nuclear facilities in Iran and Iran can do very little about it.

You have faith Ironman...

but short in reality. There's no way Israeli forces can fight Hezbollah and hope for a positive out come. They are highly trained and committed. Israeli forces are conscripts and doing time. Israel is done...and the Samson Option is a loser of last resort.

The US brass is obviously tired of being the Jew Bitch and will only participate in limited rolls. The CIA has given Israel 10 years with no war....The DIA will give it less given the circumstance. Your amazing assumption is Iran cannot respond to any high tech military force. You're clearly not 'The Granger' airheaded analysis, but this silly. Iran has full capabilities of hitting any air, ground or sea assault before borders are violated.

"Give a man a gun, and he could rob a bank. Give a man a bank, and he could rob the world."

Libya's air defenses

used alot of the same weapons Iran has, and were completely ineffective against modern aircraft and tactics, and the U.S. flys drones regularly over Iran, and has lost only 1 or 2. So you're right, I'd expect Israeli attacks to be mostly successful, and do not think the Iranians are good enough to repel an attack - they may shoot down a plane or two.

The real question is how the IDF will perform against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Last time Hezbollah gave them a pasteing, but this time, Hezbollah are more cut off from supplies, and the Israelis will push harder.

Israel is kind of cornered here. They won't make peace, their economy is being propped up. Iran is on the rise because of the failed US-Iraq war, and the rise of China.

If you haven't figured it out yet...

the US is Israel is the US is Israel...this attack is vindication for the wary and tiptoe efforts of the US to get fully involved in the Syria conflict...I wouldn't be surprised if Obama himself didn't cite this attack as a pre-emptive, offensive maneuver in order to avert possible casualties in the works by the Syrian powers...

How anti-human life are Republicans now???

how Orwellian...

Syria's government refers to rebels trying to topple President Bashar Assad’s regime as “terrorists.” (AP).....so does Michael Medved...so does Obama...so does the Department of Homeland Security...so does Glen Beck...they ALL say "Ron Paulites using the word revolution are terrorists"...Israel is aligned with TERRORISTS over there, and so are all neo-con establishment GOP idiots!!

Orwellian, isn't it?

There's A Reason People Hate Israel!

It's kind of obvious isn't it?

I hope the Obama administration

can just remain silent on this whole issue.
It is none of our business. Let Israel ans Syria solve their own problems.

Of course this is only if Israel acted on its own, without US coercion.

I often complain about Israel meddling in U.S. affairs, but the flip side of that is that we have no business meddling in theirs.

I'm far from a fan of the way things are run in Israel, but I really do think that the people of both Israel and the U.S. would be better off if the governments of both nations just stopped trying to control/exploit one another. Y'know, the whole "entangling alliances" bit.

A signature used to be here!

If we had Andrew Jackson in office Israel would be bombed by now

and justice would be swift... but instead I bet our media blames the victim here and somehow we are supposed to be okay with the mounting death toll that we are about to witness

It is not up to the US

to get involved here.
Israel attacked Syria.
It is up to them to solve their own problems.

of course you are right but we will get involved either way

and I am just projecting into the past because I'd hope to God someone with principle responds when we do get involved... which is inevitable and no long our decision to make

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

I hope we all understand that we will be lied to about the death

And about exactly how many targets there were.

This could be, for all we know, a genocide overnight

Eyewitnesses: Israel Drops ‘Nuclear-Type’ Bomb On Damascus

#Syria state TV: Cabinet says Israeli strikes in Damascus overnight “opens the door to all options”

Syrian Information Minister speaking live now from Damascus http://www.presstv.com/live.html

From GLP: “Speaking to friends in Moscow, the feeling there is that Russia won’t retaliate directly for the bombing in Damascus but will strike back with an invasion of Georgia which they could do very quickly with them still having massive military forces in South Ossetia.”

Don't think they mean an actual nuclear bomb, just that it looked like the pictures of one. Which can happen with any sufficiently large explosion.

Man Press TV is the hard truth

I just saw a video of U.S. Troops peeing on dead afghani bodies that I had never seen before... and it was gross.

I also noticed the logo for Press TV is that of the illuminati, an eye, but unlike the pupil on the illuminate which is small, PressTV has a awakened or large pupil.... quite clever

Assad "to declare war" on Israel following fresh airstrikes

Syrian state television has reported that a major strike on an ammunition depot in Qassiyoun mountain shook Damascus, while Hezbollah's Al-Manar station claimed the explosion may have been a downed Israeli jet.

Rumours are surfacing online that following the latest volley of attacks on the Syrian regime, President Bashar al-Assad will soon officially declare war on Israel, with speculators pointing to 5am local time for official confirmation. This information continues to persist despite the technical state of war that currently exists between the two states.

Many however, have been quick to dismiss these reports as strictly rumour, with various commentators claiming that such a move would be sure to end Assad's reign of terror in Syria "within a week".

The news of an Israeli intervention in Syria has caught the Obama administration on the back foot, with the US president refusing to comment at length about the strike. Obama said, "The Israelis, justifiably, have to guard against the transfer of advanced weaponry to terrorist organizations like Hezbollah."

"Give a man a gun, and he could rob a bank. Give a man a bank, and he could rob the world."
