Happy Ishtar

to all of you who worship the goddess of fertility. You do know that is what you are doing when you celebrate Easter right?

And for a little clarification for any of you interested in the truth. Messiah didn't rise from the dead on the first day (Sunday) but at the end of the Seventh day (Saturday). He did ascend on the First day which is represented by the Wave Sheaf offering during the Feast of Unleavened.

I have a question

It is my understanding that Jesus died on the cross on Passover. It is my understanding that Jesus was in the earth 3 days and 3 nights like Jonah was in the belly of the whale for the 3 days and 3 nights. (So, because of that, I do not believe that Jesus died on Friday.)

It is my understand that we celebrate the resurrection to commemorate the finding of the empty tomb:
John 20:1 KJV
The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yetdark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

The Jewish first day of the week would have started at Sun Down on our Saturday, so are you saying that Jesus arose sometime before Sun Down on Saturday?

I understand the Ishtar comment as much as I need to, but I would like to understand the timing better if you have any information to offer. Thanks!

:)

From my study

I believe that Messiah was put in the tomb on Wednesday evening at twilight or sunset if you prefer. He was resurrected at twilight Saturday evening which makes three days and three nights. Then Mary and the others found out and even saw Him but He specifically told them not to touch Him because He had not yet Ascended. He then ascended on Sunday which corresponds to the wave sheaf offering of the first fruits which He is. He had to ascend on Sunday because that is when the Wave Sheaf was offered.

The reason I argue against the Easter reference is because "Easter" is a pagan day and brings up all kinds of worldly images that have nothing to do with Scripture. Our salvation is in His Passover sacrifice and our hope is in His resurrection, neither of which have anything to do with the pagan Easter festival. And because Easter is the accepted festival by most Christians then the truth, meaning and prophecy of His sacrifice is skewed if not lost.

That's the way I see it.

English and German speak of "Easter"...

... which may very well derive from the name of a pagan Germanic goddess. In other languages, a variant of Pascha (derived from "Passover") is used; in still other languages, "Great Day," "Great Night," or "Resurrection" are spoken of. Regardless, the intent of the heart is to celebrate Christ's resurrection, as shown by the other posts on this thread.

As to precisely when Christ rose, I know that some Christians favor Saturday, but I remain unpersuaded concerning the Biblical merits of that view. I fail to see why it makes any real difference which day we observe.

In any event, thank you for bumping up the thread.

Well I guess that is the point

We are suppose to honor His sacrifice because that is where our salvation lies. When you memorialize Passover then you are keeping with Scripture and showing acceptance of His sacrifice. Sunday is the day He ascended and corresponds with the Wave Sheaf offering of the First fruits. "Easter" has no Scriptural backing and the traditions surrounding it are rooted in paganism.

Some languages do seem to interchange the words Pascha and Easter but Passover is not the same as Easter. The Sunday following Passover is the Wave Sheaf and is not a Sabbath but how many Easter celebrants understand that? How many Easter celebrants immediately think of eggs and bunnies?

That is really cool! Thank you!

According to the YouTube poster of this video, it is an "Easter song performed by the musical orchestra 'Stupovi' and various Serbian singers and celebrities, dedicated to the resurrection of Christ, made as part of an action of raising funds for the reconstruction of the medieval Serbian orthodox monastery 'Pillars of Saint George.'"

Per the YouTube poster, these are the lyrics in English:

People rejoice, all nations listen:
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!
Dance all ye stars and sing all ye mountains:
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!

Whisper ye woods and blow all ye winds:
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!
O seas proclaim and roar all ye beasts:
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!

Buzz all ye bees and sing all ye birds:
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!
O little lambs rejoice and be merry:
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!

Nightengales joyous, lending your song:
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!
Ring, O ye bells, let everyone hear:
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!

All angels join us, singing this song:
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!
Come down ye heavens, draw near the earth:
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!

Glory to Thee, God Almighty!
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!
Glory to Thee, God Almighty!
Christ God is risen! Let us rejoice!

I have posted a copy of the video, along with the English lyrics, on the Agape' Forum. God bless, Liberty patriots.

Indeed, and like Him we will rise!

Amen, Libera_me!

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words. - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

One of my favorite verses!

And isn't that so like our Lord? TO permit us to see our loved ones who have gone on before, before rising to meet Him in the air?! What a Savior!

My

family celebrates this as well. Last night was the midnight service.

Here is a video by a guy who plays the character Mr. Panos explaining "Greek Easter." (it's a little funnier if you understand the traditions)
