BofA Alert: My Account was wiped out yesterday

Not sure if this is a personal event...
or a Major event....

I just thought I'd put it out there for feedback.
Nothing like this has ever happened to me/mine before,
so I'm going in today to my branch and going to see whassup!

My son in law, different bank, Chase, kept getting like 12 notices
last night on his account.... giving him his balance over and over again..
It was the correct balance... but odd, that it kept recurring over and
over. His comment was: "there's some kind of glitch in the system going on..."

Anybody else?
We're in Arizona btw...

Malicious links in the email?

Are you sure the emails weren't trying to get you to click on a link and trick you into giving up your password?

Interesting. I got a BofA

Interesting. I got a BofA email alert c. 1 am on the 6th that my account had fallen to $0.00 and could have been overdrawn. I saw the email on the afternoon of the 7th and checked, but it was not true (or had been corrected?).

I work in security. So,

I work in security. So, you're bank account got wiped out?

I don't even know you, but I would be willing to bet that when you use your debit card at merchants (the store), you enter your pin number on the little credit card machine so that you run your transactions as debit instead of credit.

Am I right?

I bet that I am. Want to know why? Because credit card companies protect their customers in the event of fraud or theft. The credit card companies can take the money back from the merchant and subsequently put the money back in your account. However, money stolen from use of the ATM card and subsequent pin number are never refunded in the event of theft of fraud.

Banks for many decades have told their customers "NEVER GIVE YOUR PIN NUMBER TO ANYONE". This includes the major retailer up the street where you purchase groceries.

NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE -- EVER use your ATM pin number to purchase goods through merchants... EVER! When you do, you are literally giving all of your bank account details to that company with the hopes that someone internally won't steal it, or that their security is good enough to prevent others from stealing it. Those who use their debit card number have little concern for their own personal wealth and do nothing but put their own security at risk. And for what? I guarantee that you have no legitimate reason for using your debit card pin.

Well I hope this is a lesson learned.

Credit card companies protect their customers, banks do not. As such, I do not care that 2.7% of the transaction gets paid as a fee to the credit card companies. That's far better than giving my personal account information to people who I do not trust.

And as such, I've never had my account wiped out.

** NEVER use your ATM pin number
** Routinely contact your bank and request NEW card numbers
** Change your pin regularly
** NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, EVER USE YOUR PIN NUMBER!!!!!!! (except if your are at a bank-owned ATM machine)

I have an even better

I have an even better suggestion...only keep enough money in the bank to cover basic bills for that month. Keep 3+ months worth of cash stored in a fireproof safe, and everything else in gold/silver and other hard assets.

And, if Cyprus didn't wake you up...nothing will.

After searching.... I found

After searching.... I found this at another site
Hadn't seen this posted, but it could be a major news story tomorrow:

Hacking group Anonymous has launched OperationUSA (#OpUSA), a coordinated online attack against nine US government sites and more than 130 financial institutions for 7 May, according to a post published in failbin.

The attack, according to Anonymous, would be a response to social and political injustices. "America you have committed multiple war crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and recently you have committed war crimes in your own country. ...Now it is our time for our Lulz (fun)," the group said.

Here is a list of the websites that they plan to target:

Found this as well

We've seen what Anonymous is capable of in the past, so tomorrow could be VERY interesting. Of course, giving advanced warning like this also gives these organizations time to prepare, so we'll see.

Greetings Obama and USA citizens. We are the N4m3le55 Cr3w. Anonymous will make sure that's this May 7th will be a day to remember. On that day anonymous will start phase one of operation USA. America you have committed multiple war crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and recently you have committed war crimes in your own country. You have killed hundreds of innocent children and families with drones, guns, and now bombs. America you have hit thousands of people where it hurts them, now it is our time for our Lulz. For this you shall pay. Obama you have seen the over three billion dollars worth of damage we have done to Israel in operation Israel.

I had forgotten about this.

I had forgotten about this. My first thoughts when I saw the original post was a warning about how the US may enact martial law. It is thought that the most likely cause will be a financial collapse, and they may state a virus has infected their system and would shut everything down for the weekend.

But is this is Anon's doing I don't think your account would be wiped. they will just dedos the banks servers. Maybe this could lead to your account showing as wiped but I cannot explain how.

Yeah, Anon's aren't stealing

Yeah, Anon's aren't stealing the funds. They are DDossing.

What got the OP was probably more like the TJMaxx hack -- although probably not as wide of a net.
