Portraits of Soldiers Before, During, and After War

Very interesting to see the physical changes of these soldiers when placed under the stress of war.

Poor "volunteer" babies,

my sympathies go to the innocent victims and to all of us who have to work extra years of our lives just to pay the taxes to support these people who made the choice to join the military and make excuses rather then do something productive, get or create a job and stand on your own two feet.

I don't understand some of the comments here.

We DO NEED a military to defend the United States, and many enlist with honorable intentions to do just that on behalf of their families and fellow citizens - willing to put life and limb on the line to do so.

RON PAUL understands the need for a military. As president, he would have done nothing to diminish America's ability to withstand an attack. Furthermore, Ron Paul supports the military. I have never heard him demean those in the military, question their motives, nor hold THEM responsible for the misguided foreign policy of our presidents and Congress.

I take offense to your characterization that enlisted men should "do something productive, get or create a job and stand on your own two feet." I'm grateful there are those willing to volunteer - for the demands it puts on them and the sacrifices they are willing to make and too often do. And btw, hundreds of thousands are in the Reserves, remaining ready through monthly weekend and other drills *while* they hold down regular jobs. P.S. That there *are* those willing to volunteer to defend and protect Americans precludes the need for mandatory service (though Obama wants that), such as in Israel, former communist countries, and elsewhere.

The military has not

The military has not "defended" this country for 60 years and your trying to twist Dr Pauls words are laughable.

You are a statist and it's people like you who are the reason for the destruction of the American Republic and the creation of the welfare-warfare state.

Getting a job is soooo tough I know. Poor things.

I've tried to twist RP's words? I don't think so, but let's hear

straight from the horse's mouth, a clip from the 2012 debates.

If you felt that what I said was not in line with Ron Paul's position, it would have been more helpful to explain *how* I was wrong vs. throwing out insults and accusations. I'm here at the DP to have constructive dialogue, share my experiences and opinions, and learn from others. I appreciate mature and respectful members who feel the same. Btw, I like your quote.

I understand your point

But knowing that they are not defending America and are tools for empire building don't you think they have a responsibility to the constitution to reject the military industrial complex? If more of these men knew they would be policeman for the purpose of protecting corporate interests as opposed to fighting for freedom do you think they would be in a hurry to enlist? Perhaps, since we give them the GI bill and other benefits especially to those that have have the least ( inner city)

The 3 rd reich thought they were liberators and just too...... Does that make those soldiers innocent?

A real conflict of conscience here.

Sorry But

they just look dumb dumber and dumbest to me. I have a hard time feeling sorry for people that will go fight for the elite.

Nice try...

Completely unreliable and unscientific. I can show three different pictures of myself during my regrettable Mormon mission when I was 20 and you'd see the same changes. Point being, people's faces change, percentage of body fat changes, their hairstyle and/or hairline change, etc etc. Again, nice try but lame post.

Frankly, those pictures were

Frankly, those pictures were not illuminating. A photo represents a fraction of a second in time. Who knows what those people are thinking about or what they are surrounded with in the time the pictures were taken?

On the other hand, if you want to really see the effects of stress, just look at the before and after photos of our presidents.

LOL! What???

Yeah, deciding to have hundreds of people killed after dining on the freshest, best lobster in the world might keep me up at night and age me, too.

War

From the looks of it WAR really is HE!! on earth.
Sorry for your loss Fishy.

Absolutely haunting.

I noticed that most of the 'after' photos the men's pupils are really dilated.

P.S. Fishy, I'm sorry for your loss.

What's with the dilated pupils?

I noticed that, too.
