ALERT: Cody Wilson's DefCAD.org Shut Down! Gets State Dept/DoD's ITAR Restriction Notice!

Cody Wilson is on AJ show, LIVE. As of 11:07am PST, Thurs, May 9, 2013, while other pages at DefCAD.org seems to be working, the Liberator Page is SHUT DOWN the entire DefCAD.org is SHUT DOWN!!!

Cody's saying he WILL comply with the shut down, for the time being, as he consults with his legal team.

The Statist thugs are 'requesting' specifically, either he 'opts in, to their jurisdiction' (he is a licensee, so technically that is exactly what he 'agreed' to) or DefCAD.org is being SHUT DOWN, with the caveat that as long as 'those' specific files aren't made publicly available.

At the time of this post, DefCAD.com, the no take-down 3D print file search engine site, is still up, but busy.

Cody on the AJ show, was reading off the direct notice sent to him from State Dept arm in charge of ITAR 'regulations.'

If successful, this can have a far reaching precedence for ALL global internet and file exchanges, IP, and 'thought' freedoms in general.

http://defcad.org/liberator/

Here's a Wiki Summary on ITAR:

International Traffic in Arms Regulations

International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) is a set of United States government regulations that control the export and import of defense-related articles and services on the United States Munitions List (USML).[1] These regulations implement the provisions of the Arms Export Control Act (AECA), and are described in Title 22 (Foreign Relations), Chapter I (Department of State), Subchapter M of the Code of Federal Regulations. The Department of State Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) interprets and enforces ITAR. Its goal is to safeguard U.S. national security and further U.S. foreign policy objectives.[2] The related Export Administration Regulations (Code of Federal Regulations Title 15 chapter VII, subchapter C) are enforced and interpreted by the Bureau of Industry and Security in the Commerce Department. The Department of Defense is also involved in the review and approval process. Physical enforcement of import and export laws at border crossings is performed by Customs and Border Protection, an agency of the Department of Homeland Security.

BREAKING: 3D printable gun ordered to shut down by government
Defense Distributed is complying, DefCad.org back up after removing file

Adan Salazar
Infowars.com
May 9, 2013

On the Thusday, May 9 edition of the Alex Jones Show, 3D printing guru Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed announced that the US Office of Defense Trade Controls Compliance, Enforcement Division (DTCC/END) has sent him a letter requesting the group remove all data from public access immediately.

The letter, sent by the US Department of State, states:

“DTCC/END is conducting a review of technical data made publicly available by Defense Distributed through its 3D printing website, DEFCAD.org, the majority of which appear to be related to items in Category I of the USML. Defense Distributed may have released ITAR-controlled technical data without required prior authorization from the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), a violation of the ITAR.”

USML stands for United States Munitions List, and ITAR stands for the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

State Department Demands Takedown Of 3D-Printable Gun Files For Possible Export Control Violations

Andy Greenberg, Forbes Staff
5/09/2013 @ 2:36PM |2,302 views

The battle for control of dangerous digital shapes may have just begun.

On Thursday, Defense Distributed founder Cody Wilson received a letter from the State Department Office of Defense Trade Controls Compliance demanding that he take down the online blueprints for the 3D-printable “Liberator” handgun that his group released Monday, along with nine other 3D-printable firearms components hosted on the group’s website Defcad.org, while it reviews the files for compliance with export control laws for weapons known as the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, or ITAR. By uploading the weapons files to the Internet and allowing them to be downloaded abroad, the letter implies Wilson’s high-tech gun group may have violated those export controls.

All of this brouhaha, just in time for Obama's visit to Cody Wilson's adopted hometown of Austin, TX:

Obama visit to affect traffic downtown, east of Austin

Traffic will be affected downtown and in eastern Travis County on Thursday because of President Barack Obama’s visit.

Air Force One is scheduled to touch down at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport about 12:15 p.m. and is set to depart about 5:35, officials have said.

In between, Obama will visit New Tech High School in Manor and Applied Materials, which is off U.S. 290 near Gilles Road.

I think this makes me the 3,456th gunblogger to “announce” Defense Distributed’s proudest new achievement, The Liberator. Although their video pairs it with images of the Liberator bomber, we know which WWII equipment they really named it after.

I believe I’m also the 1,274th blogger to immediately think (if not immediately say), “You can’t stop the signal!”

And you can’t, you know. Nobody can.

I think Cody Wilson is a brave genius — who’s cruising for a terrible fed-bruising and who’ll deserve our ardent support (and contributions to his legal defense fund) when it comes.

Accompanied by guests Lord Christopher Monckton and author and psychological warfare expert Dr. Steve Pieczenik, Alex also analyzes Israel's and the US' increased efforts to invade Syria by funding, aiding and arming so-called rebels, many of which are affiliated with the al-Qaeda offshoot Jabhat al-Nusra. Alex also welcomes Member of the European Parliament for Yorkshire and the Humber for the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) Godfrey William Bloom to discuss the party's strong showing in the local elections.

Defense Distributed's Cody Wilson also pops in to speak about his group's development of the first fully 3D printed gun, the Liberator.

Wait around for the Pieczenik interview, THAT, is where it gets really interesting...

Part 1: My Dinner with Cody Wilson: “I’m Looking Forward to Jail”

Part 2: Cody Wilson Talks to TTAG About the Department of State Takedown Letter

Posted on May 9, 2013 by Nick Leghorn

As soon as Robert texted me to let me know that Defense Distributed had been targeted by a Department of State letter to take down their files, I gave Cody a ring. I figured he’d be knee-deep in crisis management mode, but when he came on the line he sounded like the same calm, cool and collected Cody we had dinner with only a couple of days before. I asked him about this latest development, and the plan going forward and he laid his cards on the table for me . . .

What’s happened is that the State Department Defense Office of Trade Controls believes that Defense Distributed’s publishing of their Liberator files constitutes a breach of the ITAR regulations. These laws keep American-designed firepower from leaving U.S. shores without the approval of the State Department, kind of like a “prime directive” for information about firearms that keeps high tech guns out of the hands of developing nations. In theory.

In the mind of State, by publishing the technical details of a firearm on the internet, Defense Distributed violated one of the provisions of the ITAR regulations. In response, they drafted a letter to Cody and requested that he remove the files from his website. “Requested” being the operative word — there was no forced removal of those files by government hackers from DefDist’s site, and their website’s DNS remains unchanged. In other words, nothing on their website was touched by anyone but Cody and his crew.

If the Fed's case were

If the Fed's case were somehow to prevail in court this seems like it would have some chilling effects on free speech. What can you write or disseminate on the internet that won't violate some law somewhere in the world? Total and utter bull...we know what they are up to. These goons don't understand that they are actually giving all the pirated copies a lot of publicity and downloads.

absolutely. As in IncomeTax, the Feds are basically claiming

that they OWN IT ALL; they delude they 'own' EVERYONE's ideas, pictures, creations, etc. within the geographical boundary known as the United States, but they're gonna 'let you,' use it, with caveat: gotta get their permission slips (licenses).

But there was a case of encryption that they deemed to be "military munitions" under ITAR, not joking: so they couldn't let foreigners use it, or email someone outside of US using that encryption key, under the 'orders' of NSA.

Well, tough shiite! LOL. Because the computer coder, did it anyway. Then, uncharacteristically, the govt finally relented and dropped the case, if I remember correctly, which actually still puts its legal status in limbo, technically speaking.

I cannot recall the name of the case, but I'm sure if you look up crypto-anarchist and ITAR, it'll pop up somewhere.

(UPDATE) I believe this was that encryption case: http://www.offshore.com.ai/arms-trafficker/

If they, the corporatist govt, can claim that ones and zeroes belong to them, the sky's the limit. LOL, right. We're talking govt here; when and on what item haven't they claimed their 'divine' dominion over??

it's gonna hit comedyville, soon. but I pray Cody comes through this, 'legally' unscathed.

He's looking into EFF for some backup, but they've been traditionally liberal leaning so not sure if they're specifically anti-gun like ACLU, or not. We shall all see where all these supposed 'civil rights' group really stand, as this case goes forth.

Hey, even ACLU defended Nazis on 1st Amendment principles, just to strongly make the point that defending a Constitutional right, does not mean that they necessarily endorse someone else's actions in question.

Hopefully the likes of EFF, the Electronic Frontiers Foundation, the King Kong of digital civil rights defense, comes to Cody's aid, recognizing that this not only affects guns, but everything online.

Cody said on today's Alex Jones show that the ITAR regs are so outdated (normally a good thing) that nothing online is considered public domain (for IP purposes); according to them, only those in physical print publications like papers and books, count! LOL.

more govt incompetence...usually a good thing, but in this case? not so much.

Downloads For 3-D-Printed Gun Blueprint Hit 100,000
Deadlier than Google Glass, easier to get your hands on.

May 9, 2013 | 8:06 AM

The 3-D-printed firearm is doing good business for its makers, Defense Distributed. According to Forbes, downloads of the blueprint of the Liberator gun, fired for the first time last weekend, have already reached 100,000.

The majority of downloads have been in the U.S., but the blueprint has also been popular in Spain, Brazil, Germany, and the U.K., according to Defense Distributed. The plans are available on The Pirate Bay and, says the BBC, have become the site's most popular file to share.

The issue has lawmakers up in arms, with New York, California, and D.C. looking to introduce legislation to curtail 3-D-printed guns.
