Update - IRS Targeted Tea Party in 2011

AP Exclusive: IRS knew tea party targeted in 2011
Thanks RonPaulforfreedom for link

Now, this is a massive government scandal.
IRS Conservative Witch Hunt Started In 2011 With High-Level Officials Involved

The IRS conservative targeting scandal is going from bad to worse.

Following the Friday revelations that despite all prior appeals to the contrary, the IRS did in fact apply political bias and prejudice in targeting conservative groups who had applied for exempt status (and who knows what other prejudice when targeting non-liberals entities - perhaps it is time to do an analysis of what the ratio of conservatives to liberals audited each year is?), culminating with the farcical response by an IRS official during the Friday press meeting this may be just the beginning of a major political scandal which in addition to tangential fallout crushing the alleged "impartiality" of the Obama administration, additionally validates many of the heretofore right-wing "conspiracy theories." And as Zero Hedge has shown time and again, it is not a conspiracy theory if it is a conspiracy fact.

What makes things worse for the IRS, the US Treasury, its then-head Tim Geithner, and of course, Barack Obama, is that according to a draft report prepared by the Treasury Department's inspector general for tax administration, expected to be released this week, and seen by AP, is that senior IRS officials knew agents were targeting tea party groups as early as the spring/summer of 2011, well before the 2012 election as we announced before. What makes matters worse, is that it was not only "low-level" employees as the IRS tried to justify its prejudice on Friday, but high level personnel, among which at least one head of division that oversees tax-exempt organizations, and likely all the way to the very top, that were well aware of the witch hunt.

just how far????would they go....a few years ago we had a huge turnout in DC on april 15..remember?...HUGE! as big as vietnam protests ever were. the media did not cover it. Why? because in order for them to continue working they must hace FCC permission...so they follow the lead of the govt. shut up and be quiet. anyway I led a small ron paul group here in new york and I offered subsidized trips to DC for four people..just four. on april 13 I had three IRS agents at my door to discuss my back taxes. IF they can waste this kind of manpower on a tiny little liberty group like mine then just how successful have they been in socializing our country? I have since left the liberty movement...game over. time to water my tree. listen ..they will not respond to protest...the elections are non existent..it is ALL show.I have been at this for thirty years and it is at an end. we lost

Big bump

Thanks for posting.

well maybe that explains it!

I find this article super interesting! I personally have been audited 3 times now and I'm only in my early 30's. I don't know anyone else with this sort of track record. I used to jokingly say it was all of those campaign contributions to Ron, Rand and CP4L but now I'm not so sure!

I have had a few tax problems...

I have had a few tax problems myself in the last few years...I said the same thing about my campaign contributions in jest...not so funny anymore.

After 5 1/2 years here, you have earned the DP badge of Liberty.

Although the badge comes from being audited by the IRS three times, there is no doubt that you a Ron Paul Patriot.

Do you think that you would have a case against the IRS, for being targeted? My recommendation is get a lawyer's opinion, and consider going after these miserable people.

Admission of guilt by the Obama Administration

Nothing more than conservative-baiting, they would love nothing more than some "patriot" or "tea party" group to go hot on the Feds. He's just adding more fuel to the fire. "Let's audit them and then tell them about it. See what happens..."

Article headlines are

Article headlines are sometimes as influential as the articles themselves, because even when people don't read the articles they often scan over the headlines.

So, when reposting this news around the net, maybe we ought to use titles such as the following:

"IRS Used As A Political Tool, Inappropriately Targeted Specific Political Groups For Audits."

A title like that would have anyone interested in politics concerned, because they would be wondering if it was their group that was targeted. For those who learn that it was not their group they will still have in the back of their mind how the IRS was and could be used again as a political tool, maybe against them next time.

Other article/forum titles:

"AP: IRS Inappropriately Targeted Specific Political Groups for Audits"

"IRS Inappropriately Targeted Specific Political Groups, Transparency Needed"

"IRS Targeted Specific Political Groups, More Honesty & Transparency Required"

"IRS Employees Use Audits as Tools to Attack Specific Political Groups"

etc, etc

Income Tax Revenuers drag net even caught me in San Francisco.

1864. President Abraham Lincoln = $1,296.
1865. Andrew Carnegie, Steel = $7
1865. Samuel Clemons = Penalty (posted to me in San Francisco)

In December 1864 (four months before his assassination), Abraham Lincoln declared an annual income of $25,000. That’s equivalent to $350,000 today, surprisingly in line with the president’s current salary of $400,000. What is not in line is Lincoln was taxed only $1,296 (roughly $17,000 today) instead of the $140,000 he would’ve been taxed today.

In 1865, Andrew Carnegie owned a carriage (for which he was taxed $1), a gold watch ($2) and a pianoforte ($4). Mark Twain (aka Samuel Clemens), who lived in San Francisco in 1864, apparently owed a penalty on his taxes.

I was audited last month.

Got a notice in late Feb., audit happened 3/28ish, at my apartment. I'm self-employed and make <40k. I do take a home office deduction. Also, I hadn't filed for a couple years, but had decided it was time to get square with them. I assumed that's what triggered the audit, but now I'm wondering... Funny thing is, at the end of the audit, just as it looked like they (IRS lady and her manager, guess she was in training) were going to pick up their shit and get the fuck out of my house, the IRS lady asked one last question.. if my political views were the reason for my neglecting to file. I stammered out something like "no, that would be silly", as I was taken off guard by the question. Should have refused to answer that one.

Anyhoo, the story does have a kinda nice ending (it's actually not totally over, because I haven't heard the official results yet), 'cause because of the audit I discovered that I had neglected to take some education credits and at realized I had overpaid, so that's nice. But I have to wonder what the purpose for that question was and how an answer in the affirmative would have effected the situation.

You did the right thing in the way you answered them

Refusing to answer on principle would have been no different than shouting "End the Fed!" at them as you chased them out the door.

could be. However, the fact

could be. However, the fact that my accountant didn't jump in and say as much guarantees I'll be looking for a new accountant before next tax season.

I Guess That Makes Everything OK.

Don't we wish that we had the ability to apologize and forget? It would eliminate the need for courts.

Dear IRS

An apology without repentance means nothing. You are thugs with badges, nothing more and you have destroyed more lives than can be counted.

i give them points as an individual for telling the truth though

seems that point goes to lois lerner

edit 3
just a point mind you

sorry for the edits......dammit

I am one....

I 100% believe that my affiliation with Ron Paul, what I have posted...The Daily Paul, Info Wars, Facebook, etc...got me audited. It was..and is horrific.

HAHAHA I beat them

I was out of work, then got disabled. Now I don't complain about paying the lawyer $13,000 for keeping them off my back. Did you know that after ten years the owed taxes are not collectable?! I still love my country enough that I would pay them back and the hospitals that took care of me when I broke my back. All it would take was another six figure job! Because, I am debt free! YEEHAA!

How many of those preelection DP trolls were IRS agents?

I recall that we seemed to have many last year. Sorry about your IRS misery.

And who requested this be done?

It's not as if most IRS agents can think for themselves.

That is the $64,000 question

that will never be answered with any truth. Maybe Larry O'donnell can look into it for us...

The same people who ordered the stand-down in Benghazi.

The same people did both, IMO.

Reminds me of the dangers of background checks

and of the "let's not let crazy people have guns" argument: you know it'll be used to politically attack one group over another.
