Jeff Bliss, Duncanville Teen Whose Classroom Rant Went Viral, Escapes Punishment. His Teacher Has Not.

Jeff to teacher: "But this is my country's future and my education. But there's a limit when I'm not bitching but simply making an observation."

Teacher to Jeff: "Please leave."

Maybe a better title for this story would be, "Student, Jeff Bliss, awarded 'Teacher of The Year'" Ha.

Undoubtedly, if a classmate had not video taped the incident, and it had not gone viral on YT, the outcome could have been very different, given that students are suspended these days for a whole lot less.

Great (FOX) interview with Jeff Bliss and mom!

I'm glad the classroom video went viral and that the issue is getting media coverage.

~ Jeff Bliss serves as an example of speaking out over what you see as an injustice, which would rightly define today's education system.

~ Glad to see he looks up to Ron Paul. Perhaps even it influenced how he handled himself: he didn't lose his cool, didn't make it personal, but stayed on message.

~ In how this will be resolved, I agree with the mom it would be great for the incident to be a positive learning experience for all. But we'll see if the school lives up to its claims: "The single most important influence on the quality of learning is the teacher, so Duncanville ISD commits great energy and resources to recruit, hire, develop and retain the most effective teachers. Our teachers are charged with the responsibility to bring learning to life, so our staff has to be dedicated to providing a voice of inspiration to students, enthusiastic classroom participation..." http://duncanvilleisd.org/modules/cms/pages.phtml?pageid=238...

If it does, that means the principal will either "develop" or "not retain" this teacher, whose idea of "bringing learning to life" and being "an inspiration to students" is handing out packets of information for them to read. It's a travesty, though, that SCHOOLS would need to train those who supposedly arrived as TEACHING PROFESSIONALS after investing four years and $100,000 plus in SO-CALLED "teacher education." Really, it's the EdPhD's responsible for the so-called training of THIS COUNTRY'S TEACHERS who need to be let go. TEACHER ED IS A FARCE.

its not about giving a

its not about giving a teacher a lesson, that seems to be the MSM narrative, its about changing the way we do things.....kinda feel bad for the teacher who is at the butt end of that overdue change, for all we know, maybe she not as bad as people think and is open to change...who knows her story, maybe im wrong, but seems like MSM have made up their mind, attacking the individual, instead of the system

i gotta say though, the more vids i see of jeff giving his views the more im impressed by them, the guy has a good head on his shoulder, wish him luck on his journey, keep the path brother

I agree. It's our failed education system.

For one, there is the farce of today's so-called teacher education (as I noted above).

There is also the obsession with standardized tests. In the beginning of the year, you won't hear teachers tell a group of parents that a goal of their course is to "foster an appreciation for Chemistry" or "foster an appreciation for Mathematics"... or History... or Literature... It will be something more like "to have students pass the year-end state exam."

I won't go on. Already did that in my post on the cell phone lady, which was not the same situation but what I felt was indicative of the same; few agreed with me.

I reckon we all start from

I reckon we all start from somewhere, although i agree with some folks, he could of represented him self a little better.
but the guys got spirit, we can only hope that stays with him while he grows as a person, as we all do in some degree in this thing we call life, besides, no one says speaking up against the "feeling" of the staus quo is easy, generations worth of conditioning, everywhere you go, i'd gander to say, for alot of people, myself included, would find that pretty nerve racking, being a lone voice in a sea of confusion.

something maybe, only time and use will temper into the ron pauls of the world..... one can only hope for an overpopulation of ron pauls:D

I get why he is mad

Because he is forced to sit in the class doing stupid things.

But he's wrong about teaching, the learner, not the teacher must take responsibility for their education and motivation.

Of course, walking out seems like the most responsible thing to do in that case.

So why show up for class - everyday ?

Why not just show up when you want at "teacher's" office, pick up the packet, get the test date and time, just know the drill...

Bit of a contradiction when you say the student's responsible for their education and motivation, not the teacher. And then you say walking out 'seems like the most responsible thing to do'!? Which is it?

"If you want something you've never had before, you have to do something you've never done before." Debra Medina

No contradiction

He could choose to stay in class, and try harder to learn in that environment, but if the environment is too bad, better to change to an environment that you prefer, for example, a teacher that answers questions better, or choose a different book or better packets. That is also a responsible act.

Choice solves the whole problem.

Great Speech!

I applaud that kid and all he said. The teachers response was typical and pathetic. She is the boss and doesn't care what the kids think. I ran into that attitude frequently for most of my time in the state indoctrination camps while I was incarcerated.
Teachers are parasites who further the agenda of the state. They teach fear and obedience and do their best to squash individualism and free thinking. They live off extorted funds and always demand more without ever being accountable for the lousy product they produce.
Good to see the system hasn't ruined that kid yet.
Fire that loser and all like her and let the parents keep their money and spend it the way they choose to educate their kids. The belief in authority is destroying the world. Time to put that superstition to rest.

Great news.

Standing up for oneself is a lesson many have to learn.

Maybe this will start some sort of trend.

I try to change people every day. Do You?

After watching the video

I sent an email to the schools principal asking the student receive no punishment. My thought was punishing the student for standing up for his desire to learn would only prove that desire is unwanted in their school. I asked for a fair punishment for the teacher for telling the student he was wasting her time because I know they won't punish her for being a packet teacher. As long as she passes out the propaganda they don't care if she says anything to the students.

Just deserts

Suspend him, I say. That young man deserves a parole.

Recalibrate your irony detectors

Why are you down-voters opposed to giving the guy some time out of incarceration? I hated every minute I was in public school.

Must've missed the packet on deserts vs. desserts

LOL. moi aussie.

And what an impressive act of desertion he gave this 'just desert'!!

I think he deserves better.

I think he deserves better. EXPEL him, this kid would thrive in homeschool.

attitude

"Jeff Bliss said his mom was proud of him but said his attitude could have been better."

Nah, he's got just the right attitude. He may survive public education with a capacity to think with that attitude.

Love or fear? Chose again with every breath.

"...he's got just the right attitude..." Indeed -

Shrewd dude with an attitude. The right stuff.
