Fish Oil - BAD for you?...

On Coast to Coast last week there was a guest (Brian Peskin) who very strongly claims that fish oil (which I have quit taking) does harm to the body.

He said it takes several months for your body to recover from the harmful affects of fish oil.

This threw me for a loop as I've been taking fish oil for a long time. Until now that is.

On the link below there is a radio interview with the Mr. Peskin which is a MUST HEAR.

After clicking on his site below, go to the section for the radio interview about eyesight, heart health and fish oil

It is titled:

I'm done with fish oil.

A new study out...

...claims that men have an increased risk for prostate cancer if using fish oil.

I'm done with it...too much bad press lately.

From the C toC site: "Dangers of Fish Oil"

"First hour guest, Prof. Brian Peskin reported that a number of studies show fish oil is not beneficial to health (a recent Italian study found the supplement does not prevent heart attacks).

Fish oil capsules are "non-physiologic" to human beings, providing much more DHA and EPA than one's body would ever create, and can have deleterious effects, he declared.

While eating fish is generally healthy, fish oil supplements immediately oxidize in the body, and go rancid, he continued."

I guess this makes sense when you think about it.

I've been taking it for over 30 years

I'm not about to stop, and I take a lot.
Just don't take a vitamin A supplement with it. Vitamin A overdose is nasty.

Eating whole foods (organic and unprocessed)

seems to be the most natural and "primal" way to eat. This way ones body processes it... instead of a corporation or a machine.

Fish oil is a long way from the dead fish, no?

This is a good article on exactly what they do to vegetable oil to make it even edible: http://wellnessmama.com/2193/why-you-should-never-eat-vegeta...

She does say olive and coconut oils are better (I guess they are really fruit oils).

I'd Rather Take My Chances With Fish Oil,,,

Then be forced to consume mainstream PROPAGANDA constantly !

beesting

Well, according to Professor Peskin, you really ARE taking your

...chances with fish oil.

And he's not even talking about mercury or other contaminants.

He's saying that fish oil is just plain harmful to the human body.

I'm quitting it for the forseeable future and have told my dad and family the same thing.

Peskin even claims it HARMS your eyesight.

That is quite a claim and until further research I would not take fish oil anymore.

Everything's bad for you.

So just kill yourself to be "healthy."

Listened to Nohn Mackey from whole foods

Listened to John Mackey from Whole Foods on various oils for cooking, etc. during his speech at FreedomFest. He says all oils are bad for you, including olive oil.

Author of Buy Gold and Silver Safely
Next book: Illusions of Wealth - due out soon
Also writing book We the Serfs!

Yes, plant oils are bad news.

Of course Mackey is a vegan so he's going to lump fish oil supplements in there as well though they are a totally different animal, so to speak. ;-)

Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.

he's talking about

vegetable oils for cooking. savvy vegans, and vegetarians get their DHA, EPA from fish oil, or an algae source, along with walnuts, chia seeds and ground flax.

I have no doubt that fish oils help me with inflammation

I have no doubt that fish oils help me with inflammation. And we were already eating healthy, supplementing etc. but after a couple of months of taking fish oils my wife stopped having PMS. To the point that she sometimes gets taken by surprise.

It is a good idea to go with a good brand of known clean fish oils. Nordic Naturals seems to be an industry standard.

I'm currently reading a book 'Cure Tooth Decay' by Ramiel Nagel. He is a strong proponent of Dr. Weston Price's work. He is big on Green Pasture's fermented cod liver oil and high vitamin, high omega content grass fed, nutritional butter. In his opinion, Nordic Naturals cod liver oil is the best health food store brand.

This Peskin may be onto something, or he may just be trying to sell his line of stuff. Hard to say.

Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.

My dad had similar results

with the fish oil: no more joint pain.

I don't trust the stuff, never did.

I eat a can of sardines once a week and so does my dog. We also eat grassfed ground beef, which contains O3 fatty acids.

Very few companies sell fish oil caps or liquid that isn't rancid or on its way to becoming rancid.

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”
― Albert Camus

Keep it in the freezer.

Better brands flush out the oxygen with nitrogen nearly eliminating rancidity in properly stored capsules.

alternative

vegetable derived DHA, from microalgae, is an alternative.

Stopped taking fish oil 3-4 years ago....

This was after discovering the lawsuit where 8-10 vitamin companies were being sued for fish oil contaminated with PCB's. Not a doubt min my mind that the ocean is contaminated with PCB's.

There is the "molecular distilled fish oils", but there's just too many companies that want to cut corners.

As for the argument Peskin makes I don't know haven't listened yet....sorry.

I also listened to this C-t-C broadcast.

I am re-listening now; trying to assimilate/rethink this entire subject. Thanks so much for posting.

bump for SteveMt

Have you had a chance to listen and form an opinion?

I am glad to know you are out there.

It is rare that a doctor would make that effort, most are trained to adhere to doctrine, and I'll be curious what you think. I did the "fly by" assessment.

Thanks. It's twice as difficult to unlearn the trash fed to us.

That is for sure, fishy. Once I'm finally on board with a paradigm shift like this, the only thing more difficult is to now try and convince colleagues to also change their thinking. It's similar to trying to wake someone up to Liberty; frustration is the word. The facts are staring right at them, but they still refuse to believe. Sound familiar?

I'm familiar with the concept...

lol!

What about vegetarian Flax Seed Oil?

?

Want to get serious about healthy oils?

http://www.piteba.com/

I don't use it often, but I really like it, and I am glad I have it. You can hook them to a bike and crank out fuel for diesel engines. Not a lot, but perhaps enough to run a tractor around the farm in a pinch.

Kinda didn't answer my question though.

.

Yeah, I got as close as I could and still missed...

I guess what I was implying is that fresh oil is going to be the best, for whatever.
In general, I advocate eating the whole food. Nature wrapped everything up in complimentary nutrients. Off the cuff, I would say eating whole flax seeds would probably be better, and probably best sprouted, but that is a totally un-researched opinion.

EFA, DHA, I take a lot every day.

The Parent EFA go rancid exactly the same way.

So the body makes scrubbing bubbles with glutathione and selenium. The problem is rancid oils. Clean'm up when they go bad.

This Doc prefers the vegan formula on rather flimsy evidence. Confounding variables such as increasing selenium as needed with increased EFAs in diet.
