Gun Control Project: Could Use Your Help!

Hi everyone. My step-daughter has just been assigned a project in her U.S. History Class which requires that each student do a comprehensive report on Gun Control/Gun Ownership. Each student is required to take a stand either for or against Gun Control and Gun Ownership in general and thoroughly explain the reasons for their stance.

Being my step-daughter, Ashley's stance is, of course, going to be very strongly pro Gun Ownership and very much against gun control. In addition to the written portion, she is also required to provide visuals, including things like maps, graphs, charts, tables, videos, photos and even cartoons. This is where you guys come in.

This is such a great opportunity to present an entire classroom with the real facts concerning the history of the Second Amendment, as well as concrete evidence that gun control simply does not work to prevent crime, and in fact often results in increased crime rates. Knowing how well versed many of you are in this area, I would appreciate any input you have on this topic, including any links you may have to stats, videos, charts etc. etc. on this topic.

I really want to help her hit this one out of the park and would welcome any input anyone can provide. Thanks!

Grandpa Jack Comic Books

The JPFO has some great comic books for kids explaining the folly of gun control. You could have her hand them out to her class, they're really inexpensive and great for all ages. See http://jpfo.org/filegen-a-m2/movieplay-gpjack.htm

Have her make this case

If law enforcement officers(who are public servants) get their authority to carry a gun from the people they "serve" and protect, than why on earth would people not have the same authority to carry a gun.

Its like telling your child that they can have candy, but not being allowed to have it yourself.

Like having someone walk your dog or clean your because it's against the law for you to do it yourself

Thank you so much

everyone for all of your great responses! It all will be very helpful. You guys are the best! :)

She might also add....

There was a story on drudge from Chicago

Showing that the most strict gun laws ( Chicagos , illinois ) are ignored by the criminal element, who brazenly robbed a store with a gun, and that store was directly across the street from a police station.
By doing a bit of chronological data points charting the progression of gun laws compared to the lack of reduction in crimes as corresponding to those laws she can comprehensively prove, gun laws don't inhibit crime but do present criminals more easy victims.

Just a suggestion, good luck to her!

I Don't Really Have Much Advice

because my advice would be to show videos of the gun confiscation in Russia and that is not pretty. Best advice I can give is get her out of public schools and enroll her in the Ron Paul program.

Denise B's picture

That is great advice

skippy, unfortunately, it is not my decision to make. Ashley lives with her mom... My daughter Amanda; however, has two children which she is home schooling and she has already looked into enrolling the kids in the Ron Paul Program and found out that k-6 is actually offerred for free! I guess we wouldn't expect any less from Dr. Paul, he is such a gem!

That's A Great Start

Hope it turns out great for all of you.

Here is a book ...

... that is an exhaustive study of England, going back to the Middle Ages to today with it's changing gun laws, showing that England has long been a peaceful country UNTIL major gun control laws came into being:

She may do well to focus on how guns are simply tools...

which, just like hammers and screwdrivers, vary in shape and size depending on the purpose they serve. Some guns are better tools for hunting ducks, some for deer, some for self-defense, some for multiple person defense, some for launching signal flares.

even Teddy Roosevelt disdained pandas

Here is a GREAT resource ...

... John Stossel did a piece where he discusses numerous examples where more guns equal less crime, and gives a number of references that can be checked out:

please check out these sites:

www.thetruthaboutguns.com (the most popular gunblog, in the world)

they all update regularly.

Gunfacts and GunCite are two of the most comprehensive collection of info on the 2nd amendment.

She can also check out The Gun Wire, to stay current on real time news, events and info related to guns. I call it the "Drudge" of GunWorld; it's one of my daily go-to websites.

I'd submit that, that will definitely help her keep her presentation more up to date without having to veer off too deep into 'academic abstracts'; bolstering/corroborating her presentation with up to date, under-reported local news of citizens SUCCESSFULLY defending themselves against scums, as well as news reports of aberrant state-actors acting under color of law and violating the citizenry's 2nd Amendment rights, will make her presentation that much more visceral, IMHO.

The GunWire scours the web for both good and bad gun news, but you can tell from the slightly editorialized headlines that the proprietor is utterly PRO-gun, what's more, ANTI-Police State. Wouldn't be surprised if he's a r3VOL.

I, too, was initially shocked at the sheer volume of gun-related daily news. There are a lot of responsible gunowners, as well as the idiots who shoot themselves cleaning/stowing them away, shoot others by accident, drop guns in public, along with equal number of cops who blow their toes off, stupidly carrying guns in purse w/out a holster off duty at a hair salon and having her gun go off, leaving dept-issued AR on top of his patrolcruiser trunk while on doughnut run and driving off with it still on top, leaving unsecured dept-issued gun in family minivan with child killing herself playing with it, etc., etc. and etc.

In fact, regularly reading DGU (deadly gun use/usage) news daily has proven to me beyond a shadow of a doubt, that proportionately speaking, cops are FAR more dangerous with their guns than the citizenry ever will be:

Perhaps along with that reality, perhaps she could also raise the question in class: if the AR15's are 'so evil' then why do SWAT, and now practically every cop inside their police cruisers, carry them? Do THEY want to murder the citizenry and "mow us down" like Jared Lee Loughner with his Glock 33rd mag or 'high rapid of fire' with their ARs and their 'high capacity 30rd' mags?

then show them the case of Jose Guerena, former Marine, gunned down in his own home by trigger happy gestapo SWAT, along with the stray bullets shot into the dead victim's neighbor's homes: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%22Jose+Guerena%22

Then, the case of Detroit SWAT 'accidentally' murdering a beautiful, innocent, NINE yr old girl, Aiyana Jones, sleeping gently on a couch at her grandma's home:

It's not like they've EVER gone up with a platoon sized drug cartel with force parity. Like, 'why do cops need full auto,' especially when their training motto is: "Every stray round has a lawyer attached to them!" ??

Then to ultimately shut down the "why do 'lowly civilians' NEED an AR15 or AK47?" asinine BS unqualified unicorn world nonsense, you can show them the clip below while kindly telling off the would-be-gungrabbers-in-training: "Because, in real life, sometimes multiple bad motherfcuckers actually invade your homes with one. Why would I throw 9mm downrange, when I can meet their AR/AK with one of my own?"

okie dokie, end of my soapbox .o)

hope those links help.

A lot of great stuff

AnCap, thank you very much. Our goal is to have no one leaving the classroom without a new outlook on the dangers of gun control, and all of what you posted will help. Thanks again! :)

hope she kicks lots and lots of would-be-statist-arses with her smashing presentation!
