DETROIT, MI -- U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-Milford) on Monday introduced legislation that would require Congress to wait seven days after a bill is posted online before voting to pass it, his office announced.
The Read the Bills Act of 2013 would also force a roll call vote for passage of all legislation and would require that bills clearly show how they would modify existing law.
"This legislation will increase transparency and ensure that Congress doesn’t pass legislation to find out what is in it,” said Bentivolio in a news release. “Every law affects how the American people live and it is a dereliction of the Oath of Office to pass laws without knowing what they are.”
