Support Thomas Massie's "Unlocking Technology Act of 2013!"Submitted by Prescience500 on Sun, 05/19/2013 - 00:40
We all know about Massie's fight against the internet tax and for hemp legalization, but he recently also co-sponsored a bill to reform the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act). It would legalize cell phone unlocking on both the consumer and producer side. Cell phone locks are digital locks that prevent you from using a Sprint phone on a Verizon network or using a USA Sprint phone on a European Sprint network. The bill would make it legal to repair cars, trucks, and other electronics. It would also enable important work by security researchers. I haven't seen it discussed much by libertarian activists, but this is a big deal. Here's information about the bill along with a suggested phone call format:
I indirectly quoted parts of my explaination from here.
Let's all do everything we can to apply pressure on our representatives to support this bill. It would also be very helpful if you got other people to call their Congressmen or sign petitions and spread it around as much as possible. Other than legalizing hemp, this is possibly our only chance to deregulate anything until at least after 2014.
If by chance you prefer emailing over phone calls, here's a link to an email petition:
