San Diego Mayor urges jury nullification

San Diego Mayor Bob Filner is urging jury nullification in medical MJ case:
San Diego Mayor Bob Filner has injected himself into a federal criminal case against the operator of a medical marijuana dispensary, intensifying his standoff with federal prosecutors on cannabis enforcement issues.

Filner's urging jurors who'll be chosen for the trial to reject federal law in favor of state statutes under a centuries-old legal concept known as “jury nullification"-- whereby jurors can refuse to convict people under laws they believe should not be applied.

Ha Ha. Filner

Filner's since been run out of office for sexual harassment - of a dozen women!

At least before he left he used the term "jury nullification."
Bet he's hoping for a jury of old men. ;-)

Excuse me but, won't that repeal it Federally nationwide?

Ron brought the Liberty movement together, Rand is expanding the crap out of it! :)

Any plug for Jury Nullification

is great. I have handed out FIJA flyers at the down town court house a few times.

Have also met and talked with Filner before. VSAT class/he gave the students a certificate of congressional recognition or some garbage like that. I'd have to go dig it up. Any way; my perception was that of typical politician. I'm sure their is or was a human being there at one time, but I am doubtful it remains. 20 or 30 minutes around a table and he couldn't keep his eyes on those that spoke because his damned phone was going off. If a politician wants to make his constituents feel valued, one would think a policy of love the ones you are with would be in order.

While talking about politicians..... There is some good work out there about sociopaths seeking power a like flies to excrement. The higher you go the more dense the population of of sociopaths.

Seems I remember a person

Seems I remember a person getting in trouble for jury tampering for handing out jury nullification pamphlets in front of a court house. I'll see if I can find a link.
Either way it's good to see this getting out.

Big-time statist

He may be right on this, but Filner is a big time statist and enemy of freedom. The San Diego unions couldn't have a better friend out here.

Guess What? Filner

Jury nullification not only works with federal laws, but with your petty little local laws as well. Thanks for the free advertisement. Hopefully your constituents will keep it in mind next time they're drafted for jury duty.

See Fully Informed Jury Association

"The primary function of the independent juror is not, as many think, to dispense punishment to fellow citizens accused of breaking various laws, but rather to protect fellow citizens from the tyrannical abuses of power by government.
The Constitution guarantees you the right to trial by jury. This means that government must bring its case before a jury of The People if government wants to deprive any person of life, liberty or property. Jurors can say no to government tyranny by refusing to convict."

"As government-paid employees, prosecutors have an incentive to deliver results in favor of government- that is, convictions - rather than to impartially uphold justice. This is particularly evident in this case where prosecutors keep trying to change the game whenever they are ruled against in order to try and get the upper hand in court. They don't seem to care on what charges the defendants are convicted or whether they are allowed to defend themselves, so long as the prosecution prevails on SOMETHING and can add another win to its record.
Judges, as paid employees of government whose livelihoods depend on keeping the courts full, have an inherent conflict of interest between their own interests and justice for all.
This is why independent juries are a part of our judicial system. Jurors do not have a financial or other interest in upholding one side or the other. They do not make their living off the system, but they do have to live with the precedent set by their decision. Therefore, they have a strong incentive is to deliver a just verdict, not only to protect the defendant in the case at hand, but to protect themselves as well as their families and neighbors from abusive prosecutorial aggression."

I just called Filner's office to thank him.

I suggest you do the same, Phone: (619) 236-6330

They that give up liberty for security deserve neither.

Bob Filner for PRESIDENT

Okay, maybe not so far, but as a graduate student in Architecture down here in the city of san diego, I can tell you from personal experience that Bob is in upstanding gentlemen. Several of my classmates have been working with him directly on their thesis project to get it implemented in downtown. In addition, Filner is providing 1,000,000 to add a 'Design Incubator' on to the 4th floor of what used to be our City Hall.

He is personally responsible for the end of FED raids on dispensaries, as I have many friends that work for those shops and were glad to hear the news.

Let's get it National, states rights!

Someone please put this video up top

in the first post so it can be seen on the front page and spread far and a wide... it's not too often you see the mayor of a major US city endorsing jury nullification to fight back against the tyranny of an out of control federal government... I have never seen anything like that from a politician actually, except from Ron Paul's mouth.

Thanks for posting

I'm suddenly quite glad that he became mayor and not DeMayo (or whatever his name is). Not sure how he does with other important issues, but at least he seems to support standing up against unjust laws.

hmmm...a San Diego politician

if one knows the history of that town, it might be only because he might appear in front of one of said juries at some point in time...
