Detroit — A 2012 Republican presidential campaign intern who worked for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan made a brief appearance in federal court Tuesday on charges he cyber-stalked 15 women and extorted them into sending nude photos.
Adam Savader, 21, of Great Neck, N.Y., is charged with cyber-stalking and Internet extortion. The FBI says he obtained nude photos of women by hacking into online accounts and threatened to release the pictures unless they send him more photos.
One of the alleged victims is a college student in Michigan.
The political science student at State University of New York at Farmingdale wore leg shackles and a green Wayne County Jail uniform to court. While sitting on a bench in court, Savader tried chatting up a heavily tattooed inmate who yawned and ignored him.
Savader's lawyer was unable to attend his client's initial appearance so the hearing will be delayed until a later date.
Savader maintained an active Twitter account and has 16,589 followers. In his user profile, Savader calls himself an "American Patriot. Reagan Republican. Formerly @PRyan's sole intern on @MittRomney's campaign and a @newtgingrich campaign staffer.
