Rand Paul: My colleagues just voted to arm the allies of al Qaeda

Excerpted from FP | Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) blasted members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Tuesday, which voted overwhelmingly to arm elements of the Syrian opposition in a bill co-sponsored by Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN). "This is an important moment," Paul said, addressing his Senate colleagues. "You will be funding, today, the allies of al Qaeda. It's an irony you cannot overcome."

The legislation, which would authorize the shipment of arms and military training to rebels "that have gone through a thorough vetting process," passed in a bipartisan 15-3 vote. Paul offered an amendment that would strike the bill's weapons provision, but it was rejected along with another Paul amendment ruling out the authorization of the use of military force in Syria. (Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy was the only senator to join Paul in support of the weapons amendment.)

Re Russian support for Syria

A dominant motive behind Russian foreign policy for over a century, through Tsars, Soviet Premiers, and Presidents, has been to acquire a Mediterranean port - which they have in Syria. Don't underestimate the importance of Syria to Russia, or think the Russians will let Assad be replaced with a pro-US regime without a fight. US intervention in Syria could be far more dangerous than our interventions in Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

BAN ELECTRONIC VOTING!!

What's the big deal?

Seriously, when was the last time arming rebels has backfired on the USA? I can't think of any instance where this was a problem other than maybe Libya, Egypt, the rest of Africa, Iran, Iraq, Eastern Europe, parts of Asia, Mexico, Central America, and probably some other areas.

I mean come on, those were months ago! We can't just live in the past. Times have changed since 2012.

And what's the worst that could happen...other than terrorists gaining control of chemical weapons, creating a regime that will most likely torture the people worse than the current regime, and having the rebel regime get toppled 10-15 years later and getting replaced by a group of people that hate the US for helping the former regime?

You guys are paranoid :)

Now he has a perfect attack ad against all these jokers

This will come back to bite Rubio in an ad...

We should start a Rand Fund

We should start a Rand Fund now to raise money for the campaign. If we can raise 30 mil in a year...think of what we can do in 4. He will be going against the Htlary machine. Clinton = lots of $$$. We need to be better prepared and that takes money...lots of it.

Congress is manned with criminals. Not hard to fathom.

Not a single congressmen has been elected by a majority of eligible voters in over 60 years. It's is a tyranny of the minority that tramples the Constitution at every turn.

Two hundred and twenty two years of Congressional malfeasance shows they should be fired.

Parliaments should not be allowed to borrow money.

Free includes debt-free!

I'll be distributing it all over the area today. Check it out

9/11 Truth.

The enemy of my enemy is my

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Until they're my enemy again armed with the stinger missiles I gave them by the thousands.

Oh Jeez

So now they make it official after doing it through the back door as if nobody knew. This is going to get ugly over there, I am so sick of it. Thank you Rand for trying your best to slap these idiot Senators up side the head.

Qatar is a rich troublemaker, and was a major influence in Libya's takeover, and have been doing the same with Syria and the rebels. They need pipeline access through Syria and probably Iran to bring their Natural Gas to Europe. (Qatar has the world's 3rd largest gas reserves) This is not going to go well with Russia as they are a major supplier of Natural Gas to Europe. Hence Russia's support for Syria and Iran. Then last week Saudi Arabia who doesn't like the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is in with the rebels, met with them and now are jumping in on rebel support.

So, it is a very entangled web of things going on, much more involved than the above. And of course, the US just has to protect the "oil dollar", which is being threatened by oil being traded in gold. That is really what the US position is all about, why Egypt, and Libya went down, and why they want Syria and Iran taken down. Gotta protect the ole mighty dollar, bull crap all the way.

Is that where the big money is?

How much profit in a stinger missle? For all of the political drama, it's a racket. "This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience...We must not fail to comprehend its grave implications...In the councils of government we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought..."

Thorough vetting process?

Will the "thorough vetting process" be the same one used for the Libyans guarding or people in Benghazi or those they were selling weapons to?

Every Time Rand Speaks

My facebook is lit up by people posting his videos and news articles in support. People who were never Ron Paul fans or at least not publicly a fan. Rand Paul is knocking them out of the park left and right. If their was an MVP for government Rand would be leading the pack by far. Rubio who?

When he does something good,

When he does something good, i see the same level of new support.

When he does something bad, there is the same level of backlash.

It is exactly as it should be,but the new people dont seem as prone to call it how it is.

That is ok however, because the liberty movement will hold his feet to the fires of liberty and the Constitution.

Keep up the good work Rand, and listen to us and learn when you go astray

Why we are so eager to intervene in Syria: Israel's Pipeline

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4vD6JpJAFI See for yourself. Ryan Dawson makes it very clear why we are so eager to fight in Syria. This is all about Israel's interests, and its desire to keep its current monopoly (which it shares with Turkey) on a certain oil pipeline.

Round them all up under NDAA and send them to Gitmo.

Ron brought the Liberty movement together, Rand is expanding the crap out of it! :)

Have you called your Critter yet?

I want to know this: How many of you have called your Senators and Congress critters to tell them that aid to the so called Syrian rebels is unacceptable? I have contacted Rand Paul's office, urging them to tell him to be more outfront on this issue. Notice how they always have those critters on TV who FAVOR more intervention, but not those who don't?

I have contacted Senators Chambliss, Issakson, Rubio and Nelson as I live in GA but still have FL registration. I urge you to do the same.

This move to arm the terrorists in Syria has Israel written all over it. Likudnik Oded Yinon advocated this type of action years ago. The argument is that Israel will be strengthened by surrounding instability. Israel wants Assad out so it can go after Hezbollah, and so that intervention in Iran will be easier. Wake up people. No more wars for Israel!

Firing at will...

but hitting nothing.

Senators Maria Cant-do-anything-well (D-WA) and Patty Murray (D-WA) are in lock-step with Obummer and there is nothing any Washingtonian can do to deter them.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.
