Michelle Said to be Considering an Extended Vacation

by Keith Koffler on May 22, 2013, 9:29 am

With scandal swirling about the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama may be considering an extended exit from Washington this summer, fleeing for weeks to the Obamas’ traditional summer haven, Martha’s Vineyard.

According to the Boston Globe, “Michelle Obama and the children may be on the island for an extended period.” But the president would hardly be suffering by comparison. He may come up on weekends and then stay for two weeks at the end of the summer, the Globe reports.

REPORT Famed White House Chef Quit Over Abusive Behavior of Michelle O

“He just couldn’t take it – the relentless nitpicking, over petty little details that drove him insane. She thinks she’s Marie Antoinette!” a White House insider told The ENQUIRER.

“It has nothing to do with Sam’s cooking, which is superb. But you could be Wolfgang Puck and Michelle wouldn’t be happy. She’ll find some reason to turn up her nose, no matter how good a job you’ve done!”

Michelle habitually sends food back after serving, often with snide remarks...

Hillary Rodham Clinton likes to travel in style.

She insists on staying in the “presidential suite” of luxury hotels that she chooses anywhere in the world, including Las Vegas.

She usually requires those who pay her six-figure fees for speeches to also provide a private jet for transportation — only a $39 million, 16-passenger Gulfstream G450 or larger will do.

And she doesn’t travel alone, relying on an entourage of a couple of “travel aides,” and a couple of advance staffers who check out her speech site in the days leading up to her appearance, much like a White House trip, according to her contract and supporting documents concerning her Oct. 13 speech at a University of Nevada, Las Vegas Foundation fundraiser. The documents were obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal through the state public records law.

Bidens in Hamptons to Begin Third Vacation in Month

The Bidens are arriving today in the Hamptons to start their third vacation in a month.

"Vice President Joe Biden is arriving to spend a week in the Southampton area before leaving next Tuesday," News12 reports. "Biden lands in Westhampton this morning. It's not known if he'll meet up with two other big Democrats staying in the Hamptons this week. Hillary and Bill Clinton are already in Amagansett."

The official guidance from the White House is a little less direct: "The Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden will visit Long Island, New York. There are no public events scheduled," the vice president's schedule reads.

The Hamptons are in Long Island.

Last week the Bidens were in Wyoming for another vacation. "It's summer vacation time for the vice president," USA Today reported on August 7.

"Joe Biden and wife Jill began some time off Thursday in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, his office said, and will be there through Monday."

The week before that one, the Bidens vacationed in Rehoboth Beach.

Schumer spens $1 million taxpayer dollars on private plane trips...

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., maintains an impressive travel schedule, though one made possible in part by throwing money at the problem: He spent nearly a million tax dollars to have a private plane available in order to make 119 trips in three years.

That put Schumer in third place in the Senate travel rankings.

Biden's World Cup Trip: $2.2M for Four Hotels

Vice President Biden and his entourage visited Brazil in mid-June to attend the USA versus Ghana World Cup game, a trip that also included meetings with both the president and vice president of Brazil. Although the vice president spent only one night in Brazil before moving on to Colombia, the entire delegation, presumably including the advance team plus all communications, logistics, security, and operations personnel, required four different hotels for the Brazil leg of the trip. The total cost for the hotel space alone was estimated at $2,245,343.30:

The Obama ladies are in the house — the house of China, that is.

First lady Michelle Obama, her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, and her mother touched down Thursday in China for what’s being touted as a weeklong feel-good tourist event, amid increasing murmurs back home about U.S. taxpayers having to foot the bill.

The White House also announced that Mrs. Obama wouldn’t field any questions from journalists she encountered in Beijing, which rankled some members of the press and the private sector, given her trip — complete with an entourage of about 70 — was still being paid for with tax dollars.

Plutocracy with democratic

Plutocracy with democratic actors is not aristocracy. An aristocracy might work against the liberty of its own people, but generally wouldn't damage the long term interests deliberately of its country for short term gains.

President Barack Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha left their vacation in Hawaii on Saturday, but left First Lady Michelle Obama behind on the islands, according to news agency reports. The president reportedly let his wife stay on in Hawaii with friends as a "birthday present." Michelle Obama will turn 50 years old on Jan. 17.

It is a birthday present whose costs, in separate travel and security expenses, are likely to be borne, in part, by taxpayers.

While western governments reacted with fury to claims of a chemical weapons attack in Damascus and made moves towards launching air strikes on Syrian regime forces, the ex-Prime Minister (Tony Blair) was spotted in some of the most glamorous locations in the Mediterranean.

Mr Blair’s busy schedule at the back end of last week involved visiting several ‘super-yachts’ worth in excess of £100million – apparently three of them in the space of three days.

A new report by the inspector general of the IRS found that a small group of top executives at the IRS ran up "extremely high travel expenses" in recent years, with some basically commuting to work in Washington, D.C. by plane from around the nation.

"In some cases, the travel days exceeded the number of business days due to employees remaining in travel status during the weekends and holidays," the report said.

An IRS source told me the most frequent travelers were four different officials inside the tax agency who "work" in Washington, at IRS headquarters, but actually live in Dallas, Minneapolis and Atlanta.

High Cost of VIP Travel: Biden's $665,545 Hotel Bill in Moscow, Obama's $450,000 Warsaw Tab
In Copenhagen, $430,285.70 for hotel and $200,629 for limousines.

The Washington Times reports that the cost of Obama's Africa trip, estimated as high as $100 million, is overshadowing President Obama's agenda. If past VIP trips are any indication, lodging and local transportation would represent only a fraction of the $100 million, yet those costs would likely still dwarf those of the average citizen traveling abroad. In late March, Vice President Joe Biden's $321,000 limo bill and $585,000 Paris hotel bill for his trip to Europe earlier this year were revealed.
