Hasta La Vista Baby!

In the couple of months since I have been here, I have seen some pretty crazy things. I have seen moderates who support Dr. Paul attacked as trolls, I have seen people who disagree with even one item on the Paul platform demonized, and I have been personally attacked for stating that I think there is a reason to have some limited inheritence and property taxes. (oh noes!), all this I kind of take in stride somewhat as differences of opinion in a diverse group.

The issue of the Americatalksback ad takes the cake though. A small number of people, who are unaccustomed to seeing nudity on a political website have asked the owner of this site to consider removing the ad. This is no different than asking the owner of a bar to consider changing the channel on the bar TV. The owner has the right to refuse, and you have the right to spend your money elsewhere if you dont like whats on the television, and the owner wont change it for you. Fair enough.

Personally, I think the ad is in bad taste, and I would prefer that I not have to see it to read the site, but its a minor annoyance that up until now I was willing to live with, out of respect for the ad revenue that it brings the owner of the site.

However, for some reason, a certain segment of the users on this site have made it their mission to belittle those who have asked that their feelings be taken into consideration. They have taken to attacking these people as prudes, or insecure, or uneducated, or in some way deficient or latently gay. This isnt the kind of discussion that liberty lovers engage in. Tolerance means that you accept that people are going to have differences of opinion, and different sensibilities. Like it or not, a large number of Americans arent into random nudity, and they have a right to feel the way they do without your condescension and personal attacks.

I really have better things to do than explain the basics of cultural sensitivity to a bunch of know it alls, so Ill catch you all on the flip side. Im behind on my reading at ronpaulforums anyway.

Peace.

You are correct.. almost

I totally agree that some posters are quick to name call over a difference of opinion. Which I feel is completely counterproductive. Where you are spinning the ad issue is when you say " A small number of people, who are unaccustomed to seeing nudity on a political website have asked the owner of this site to consider removing the ad. This is no different than asking the owner of a bar to consider changing the channel on the bar TV" This is not totally true. If it were, the owner of the website would have been contacted privately, not on a discussion forum board; thereby inviting responses.

A forum is not a monologue, it is a discussion arena. You may want to consider some of your own advise in your post, " Tolerance means that you accept that people are going to have differences of opinion, and different sensibilities". Personally, I never noticed any nudity in the ad until you brought it to my attention. It doesn't bother me, but I support your right
to ask the owner to change it if you feel its that important to you. However if you choose to gather support for your postion by posting your opinion in a discussion forum, be prepared to get differences of opinion as well.
