DHS to be granted total dictatorial power in immigration bill, all laws nullified, voters silenced

"There has been a lot of rhetoric on both sides of the issue regarding the current "immigration reform bill" that the Senate has taken up, but one thing you likely haven't heard about at all is the scope and breadth of power the massive 850-page-plus measure contains. Simply put, if it becomes law, it will give the Department of Homeland Security near-dictatorial powers."

it's like the guy who wrote the article doesn't speak english.

"The members (ICE and federal employees union) warn that the bill conveys to DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano "virtually unlimited discretion to waiver"...

power to waiver... as in, discretion to not deport. yeah, sounds like Hitler.

Ummm, Not True

Senate Bill 744 is total sh*t but Section 2101 does not give unlimited authority to Homeland Security. The exception reads as follows:

IN GENERAL- The Secretary may waive the application of subparagraph (A)(i)(III) or any provision of section 212(a) that is not listed in clause (ii) on behalf of an alien for humanitarian purposes, to ensure family unity, or if such a waiver is otherwise in the public interest. Any discretionary authority to waive grounds of inadmissibility under section 212(a) conferred under any other provision of this Act shall apply equally to aliens seeking registered provisional status under this section.

Subparagraph (A)(i)(III) has to do with "3 or more misdemeanor offenses" and section 212(a)is the waiver section of the Immigration and Nationality Act already enacted. So DHS is given new authority to allow people with lots of misdemeanors to get waivers but it does not allow for a waiver for felony convictions.

I find it odd that the author says there has been a lot of "rhetoric" while giving us the exact same thing.

Truth enhances liberty, not inaccurate statements about a bad bill.

Read again

It's legalese, not English.

I read it. I make a point a to read bills before I comment on them...even though it takes an annoyingly long time and almost always makes you mad. If you think my interpretation is wrong, please post a relevant reply.

I find it odd that people "vote down" someone posting the truth. Kind of the opposite of what people preach here.

I'd rather truthfully say why this bill is garbage rather than lie about why it is. The reason posted in the OP is just plain wrong from what I've read.

I will let history be my guide

Thanks for the follow-up.

did you read the article... your source is....
