The Daily Paul Network

Hello to all my friends and acquaintances,

We've already established a grand network of communicating philosophy, ideologies, and politics. Though, we live in a special time where economic lessons should be expanded upon. By this, I mean, employment networking.

To explain, I am a month away from graduating with a Masters Degree in Architecture. In the last several months I have applied to hundreds of jobs via websites and craigslist that are usually out of my expertise - and even to companies that I know of but aren't listing - to no avail, the response to 90% of all submissions have returned with, "I'm Sorry, we aren't hiring at the moment."

The economy is in critical shape, potentially resting in the 4th Floor of Monetary ICU. I, and others, need your help.

We can all agree to the concept that none of us wish to work solely for money, but rather the improvement and benefit of societal gain. Such is the case for me, where I place idea's and innovation first, financial supplements second.

Perhaps we could begin to network available employment opportunities through various associations or personal relationships - as there always will remain a need, in need.

For me, personally, I am looking for a Design related field. Whether it be in Engineering, Architecture, Graphic Design, Marketing, Re.&De., or innovation.

Can anyone help people, helping people?

Cheers to you all.

My suggestion

What is your dream? Do you have a specific dream? Where is your PASSION? For example, if you had a passion for hay bale homes, you might try working for an organization that TEACHES people how to build hay bale homes. Or.. get a job as a manager at a lumber yard, this would put you in touch with contractors. You want to continue to educate yourself while being paid to TEACH what you have learned. You need to make connections. Be careful you do not get a job by someone who will use you, abuse you, and destroy you. There are plenty of them out there.

I have a story for you from my friend Ray Bradbury (RIP)
http://www.raybradbury.com/articles_town_talk.html

Note: There used to be transcripts of a wonderful speach he was giving in the 90s. I was an Interior Architect employed by a management firm that was refurbushing and redesigning casinos and hotels. The company flew me to Los Angeles, where I was seated among the most boring arrogant narcassists in LA.

I was not interested in Bradbury's speach. I really wanted to be done with the charade and exploring connections I had made with Hollywood to install some of my attractions.

When Ray Bradbury began speaking, he laid into the audience, told them what a bunch of losers they were because all they did was try to outdo each other and none of them had imagination, and why LA was so poorly designed, no fun, soul sucking... I fell in LOVE.

Bradbury said things like, "Why isn't anyone designing restaurants for families where kids can slide into the place, or have fun?" (Chucky Cheese came out shortley after) Anyways.. Bradbury was no licensed architech, but the Dinsney Epcot Center is attributed to him.. go figure.

CLIMB OUT OF THE BOX YOUR SCHOOL HAS BUILT FOR YOU. Forget everything you learned and follow your passion.. Lord KNOWS the best bridge has not been designed, and America needs bridges. Apply for Army Corp of Engineer and make connections, TRAVEL.. apply for jobs with YOUR HEROS. Offer to work for FREE with those who you want to be doing what they are doing, but your way (won't be long before you are paid well). TAKE RISKS.

did you even read his post?

did you even read his post? he said exactly what he is looking for. he didn't ask for a manic rant.

thanks!

Architect...

Darn if their work looks good on paper, but with no real life experience with on the job construction, innovative ideas tend to be abstract art.

Consider contacting a paying nonprofit rebuilding houses in disaster areas like St. Bernard Project in New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina. They branched out to the East Coast to help rebuild after Hurricane Sandy, [don't know about Oklahoma.]

Why this suggestion, St Bernard Project needs managers, supervisors, experts, along with volunteers. Experts like plumbers and electricians are one thing, but managers dealing with logistics and directing the supervisors, who in turn supervise the volunteer groups.

It can be a reality check for understanding what happens when there is a lack of communication between experts and managers, untrained supervisors, and volunteer groups who think its spring break.

But, you'd get paid and be able to add experience to the resume, and have housing available for how ever long you'd like to try it.

Thanks!

That's a great suggestion, volunteering is something I am interested in, especially for places that have been affected by storms or disasters.

I'll keep a look out for the opportunity to get involved. Truly appreciate it!

It's a virtuous, good idea in the principle, I think.

It's a virtuous, good idea in the principle, I think. I'm not quite sure I understand the role you contemplate for the Daily Paul to play (as a website), though(?) - employment forum or something? Features?

I'm not looking for myself, but I already try to have a couple job seeking Daily Paulers make profit for themselves of my Linkedin network I built over the years. It's with the recruiters who know me and I know, and I think are serious enough and are likely to follow up.

We ought to help each other, whenever we can afford (that is, in time investment, if nothing else). I know, it's no easy.

There are 18.6 million too many empty houses already and 24 empty houses for every person needing one right now.

Commercial real estate is even worse.

The free advice worth every penny is, learn Mandarin and "leave the country".

I was just asking for information like this in the chat today. Looking for freedom-minding engineering firms is very difficult without a network like you propose.

I love the idea ofa jobs board on this site.

I only want to hire freedom loving people. I have posted 2 positions available ad on DP and they never get voted up, so they just disappear.

A jobs board would be great. Lets keep the money in the freedom loving family.

In fact...

I would even pay $20 to post an ad on it. Hint hint Michael.

Me too.

I've got job ads posted on Craigslist now for several weeks. Engine machinist, cylinder head rebuilder, teardown mechanic and an entry level maintenance job.

Slim pickin's.

Great posting, you are on the right track and doing the right things... Now that you have asked for help, i assume that "help" also means advice as such, i have a few.

Firstly, (and if at all possible), try to materialize and convert the relationships at DP to actual relationships where you know the names and contact information of some of the people.

Secondly, I hope that there will be architects among us who will be able to give you the best advise. Ask them to send you private message.

Thirdly, if you can afford it, offer to do some work for free or at a heavy discount (in the area where you want to specialize). Sooner or later somebody will want some help. That is not a guarantee of you getting work, however, that may help you to fill in the resume.

"Graphic Design, Marketing, Re.&De., or innovation"

I suggested this free-market competitive idea in another thread. How about making an alternative to youtube or facebook that is Liberty minded, where freedom of speech is welcome, and you can rake it in, just as those founders did.

I would try myself, but I am not savvy when it comes to stuff like that.

social network saturation

social network saturation reached

sorry, but there simply isn't a lot of room for more social networks, especially not in the incredibly niche liberty movement. Heck, G+ had a hard time gaining traction, and many still consider it a side show to the 800lb monkey FB.

Also, social is hard to monetize and requires a lot of back end data storage (unless you just link to the media content hosted elsewhere). You can either make money on social by selling access to the network to 3rd parties (aka FB), but serving ads (G+), or by charging for access to the community (Angie's list)... or some combination of all of that.

Ads are going to be incredibly onerous to an all liberty crowd (and probably blocked by 99% of the users). Charging for membership requires incredibly compelling content that is not obtainable elsewhere, and selling access to user data (FB) will pretty much doom your liberty social network out of principle by the very audience you hope to attract.

That isn't to say it is impossible. Just that niche social networks are very hard to run & make money on. Just ask the owner of dailypaul.com. :-P

Show what you can do, so

Show what you can do, so freelancing or starting your own business is a way to go.

Move to a better economy

Sometimes moving is the only option. In Atlas Shrugged people leave the corrupt society for Something better. Consider it

Start your own business,

Start your own business, become the company. With your skills and background, all it would take for you to start is your own website, and that's cheap.

"Design related field. Whether it be in Engineering, Architecture, Graphic Design, Marketing, Re.&De., or innovation."

Offer these products yourself. Why not? All you need is a website, not a $2,000 a month brick and mortar storefront. And you would have a world market place to do business with on the internet.

Take what you have learned from college, "build," your product, and sell it online.

And may God Bless the United States of America.

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

Indeed!

Looking to do just that and market my talents, but first I need time, second, I need sleep!

They that give up liberty for security deserve neither.

I was going to say the same as zooamerica

Start your own business and waste no time.

You can have a website up in no time with sites like squarespace.com. Look around at some templates and see if anything sparks some ideas. Forget the money. That will come when you do something you love. So think about what'd you'd really love to be doing if money wasn't a factor. If you can find that, you'll never really "work" a day in your life :)

My dream job...

Would be to get paid to 'think' for people.

They that give up liberty for security deserve neither.

Maybe better said would be...

"Get paid for the way I think." But I get what you mean.

I work in advertising and do design and thinking for clients is all we do. I'm actually a bit over it after 10 years and looking to help people find themselves or awaken, if you will. Clearly that's a growing market. I think I may start with a design blog where I can get the message out through design? Something like that anyway.

Best of luck to you!!
