So Now Mods Can Change the Title and the Meaning of Your Post if They Disagree?Submitted by Sue4theBillofrights on Thu, 05/30/2013 - 14:52
A thesis is put out for debate. Maybe you agree, maybe you disagree. But should mod powers be able to be used, by someone who disagrees, to change your title? Without telling you and without your consent? What has this website become?
I can see it happening with an article that is hitting too close to home.
The larger debate I would like to have is, what is the role of the mod at DP? To keep discussion civil? Or to be the personal arbitrator of truth, rather than truth emerging in the marketplace of debate and ideas?
Original title (title of featured article):
"Key FBI photo of Dzhokhar shows strong evidence of Photoshop"
Title changed by mod to:
"Key photo of Dzhokhar shows strong evidence of JPEG Compression"
That is not my title. Nor remotely the meaning of the article. The article contends intentional deception. The new title puts it down to accidental computer-nerdy stuff. It is a disagreement. But should a mod be able to impose his opinion over mine in the title itself?
You may agree or disagree, but I am sure Ron Paul does not approve of shoving your own words into people's mouths without their consent. Foul.
