2014 Liberty Candidate Thread

Link this post out to all of your Twitter, Facebook, email, etc lists that are fans of liberty. This forum is open for anyone to see. This is our chance to re-establish liberty through the people

WEBSITE: http://candidates4liberty.com/home.html

All,
We need to start consolidating and getting ahead of our competition to support our candidates for 2014. I have started a list of Ron Paul Republicans, Libertarians, Constitutionalists and fellow travelers to donate, support, campaign, or do whatever you want to help with. Please add or make suggestions and I will update. Let's keep this thing going!!

I realize some people won't like the non-purity of the fellow travelers, but some people will want to support them over the alternative. Also, I'm just doing this as a way to consolidate the candidates and info into one location. You may think that x or y doesn't have a chance, or maybe it's strategically better to support z. That's awesome, but not my intention with this thread. I want to identify the BEST candidates for each seat and hopefully we have a someone in every race.

FELLOW TRAVELERS:
Question: What is a Fellow Traveler?
Answer: It is, in the author of this thread's opinion, someone who displays most of the traits of adherence to the Constitution, civil liberties (in a libertarian way), and strong fiscal conservatism, but not at the 90% and up range. This is done through a view of the person's issue statements and voting record, but is subjective in nature and thus should be validated by the person who is considering providing support. This is an organizational tool, not a panacea. Please provide feedback in the comments if I have made an oversight.

Middle East

Bedford (June 15, 2014)- News that the Sunni Islamic State in Iraq and Syria have captured the city of Mosul and threaten Baghdad have led to demands that America intervene and help the Shiite Iraqi government.

This is the wrong policy. The Sunnis and the Shias have been fighting over Muhammed’s succession since his death in 632, almost 600 years before the signing of the Magna Carta. There is nothing we can do which will resolve a religious war in a country which does not share our culture and which has no democratic tradition. In fact, any intervention in their conflicts will be seen as an expansion of their wars, justifying retaliation and perpetual war.

Our policies in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria have been characterized by a complete lack of understanding of the religious and tribal natures of these countries and the region. In defeating Saddam Hussein in Iraq we helped the Shias realize their dream of a Shia Crescent extending from Tehran to Baghdad to Damascus. Turning Iraq over to the Shias constituted a major defeat for the Sunnis and they have spared no expense in funding the Sunni Islamic State in Iraq and Syria to retake Iraq and conquer Syria.

It is important to note that our intervention in the Middle East has not only led to increased suffering for both the Sunnis and Shias but destroyed many Christian communities that had existed for 2000 years.

American democracy cannot be imposed on countries whose religions and cultures don’t share our belief in human dignity and the rights of man.

American troops are the best in the world but they are neither trained nor equipped to nation-build and serve as policemen to the world. Importantly, the difficulty of performing these missions is aggravated by Rules of Engagement, which frequently put our troops in the position of defenseless targets.

Our intervention in the Middle East has cost us lives, treasure, standing in the world and, most importantly, our freedoms.

The problems in the Middle East can only be resolved by the people of the region.

More to come…

Don't know a lot about

Don't know a lot about Rubens, but I recall hearing something negative about him. I heard Chuck Baldwin's interview with Bob. And Bob basically said once that he would vote for Baldwin in '08. That's what I got out of this anyway:
http://www.independentpoliticalreport.com/2008/06/senator-bo...

And I read about Bob almost running for President on the old Taxpayers Party ticked (Constitution Party now)

I don't think this is hawkish:

"Our intervention in the Middle East has cost us lives, treasure, standing in the world and, most importantly, our freedoms.
The problems in the Middle East can only be resolved by the people of the region."

Maybe I am missing something, but he seems like a northern version of Steve Stockman to me. A true PaleoCon.

I'll take a closer look

His other positions do look pretty good. I remember seeing something on foreign policy that stopped me from listing him.

Cruz has been moved to a "fellow traveler" due to his recent more hawkish policies.

Are you keeping a list of the Liberty Candidates and Fellow Travelers from this year and their ranking for future reference? That way you could just add them again next time. A lot of these guys will be running for office again at some point.

I know, they have told me!
:)

I do

though I want to re-evaluate them and their positions every time.

We are going to really come out swinging in 2016. Unfortunately, a lot of RINOs are going to win in 2014, so hopefully they don't poison the well like Bush and most of the other Repubs did during the early 2000s. We need to follow through with this sea change and relegate the Neocons to a despised minority.

Vote for Kathie Glass for Texas Governor y'all! I will, I've met her now.
:)

With her road trip visiting every county

in Texas she will at least have a good showing if she doesn't win. I think everyone should vote for the libertarian or Constitution Party (if they are liberty oriented) if the Republican Party fails to provide us with a liberty candidate. Make the message clear that we will only #Vote4Liberty

The McDaniel result was disappointing, but

Kenny Bob Tapp and Mark Thomas advanced to runoff in OK. David Vogt was his race, and both Eric Knowles and Michael Anthony Peroutka are locked in races separated by a couple of votes.

Oh, please remove Eric Cantor from the need to replace list. Man, it feels good to say that!!!!!!!

Dave Brat is clearly a pure

Dave Brat is clearly a pure Liberty Candidate, I suggest you add him as such. His response to the Campaign for Liberty survey was flawless. Obviously he could turn on us, but he has made his positions on policy, Including war clear. If you take him at his word, he is more of a Liberty Candidate than a number of incumbents on your list.

This guy is up with Amash, and Massie. We NEED this guy to win in November, lets call a spade a spade, and a Patriot a Patriot!

He was borderline when he was initially reviewed because of some

foreign policy questions, but I think you are right now. We will bump him up!

Ummmm..... Wow, D.A.V.E B.R.A.T W.O.N.!

I never thought he had a chance, this IS PROOF, ONCE AND FOR ALL, that we need Liberty Candidates in EVERY SINGLE RACE!!!!!!!
A bunch of our people lost races I thought they could win this year. And then Dave Brat kicks Eric Cantors butt right into the trash truck?
WOW!

There are a few races where we were very close

both of the Bunces (Ron Paul endorsed) lost close races in Nevada, that were winnable with some effort. Also, Matt Rosendale lost the senate seat in Montana to someone who looks to be a possible NEOCON. That race was very winnable.

It sucks when very winnable races slip by because of lack of exposure.

Great win

I think the liberty representation in 2014 is going to be net greater at both the state and federal level than it was before the election. People tend to get discouraged by individual races, but we are getting more and more in office.

Liberty Iowa endorses Brad Zaun for 3rd district US House

http://www.libertyiowa.com/?p=354

Brad Zaun had the most votes at last Tuesday's Iowa GOP primary but he failed to get the 35% needed. Now the Iowa delegates will elect the GOP candidate on June 21st.

Phil Moffett is a Liberty

Phil Moffett is a Liberty Candidate, he ran for Governor of Kentucky in 2011, he is the Republican Nominee for State Rep in Kentucky District 32 now. While his site does not list enough issues, EVERYBODY knows he is 100% Liberty.

Also Alan Claypool for State Rep in KY District 10 is a Liberty Candidate.

So is there a summary of how well liberty candidates are polling? It would be interesting historical info to compare with 2012 and 2016.

And what the heck is a fellow traveler?

A fellow traveler

Is someone who meets about an 80% threshold of a liberty candidate. They cannot be a NEOCON. The list of fellow travelers should give you a good indication of what we look at.

No, not at this point as far

No, not at this point as far as I know. I wish someone would put something like that together. Most races do not have scientific polls, some of the bigger ones like U.S Senate and Governor do generally do. Sometimes smaller ones as well, but not consistently Oftentimes they are listed on the Wikipedia or Real Clear Politics page for the race. For example:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_election_...

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2014/senate/alaska_s...

So if you want to know more about a race, you will have to hunt around the internet.

Fellow Traveler just means ally, someone who is, or will be far better than average office holder. But not 100% one of us, the term is used to suggest people we think are pretty darn good. But have yet to prove they are exactly what we want, which is pure Liberty Candidates. But yeah, a lot of people don't know what it means, I don't know what can be done.

Dax Ewbank for Oklahoma

Dax Ewbank for Oklahoma Governor. He's one of us. I think he was one of the famous Parking Lot delegates. As you know, Randy Brogdon is running for Senate instead, which looks like a mistake. But I hope they both win!!!!!!!!

https://www.facebook.com/DaxEwbank

I just saw him on Campaign for Liberty's new liberty candidate

email list. I noticed that their list was similar to what we were doing. Hopefully we are pushing them to really get out the info about these candidates!

I just got done with one of the busiest work months I have ever had, so now I can get back to my normal level of participation in this project through the general election.
