2014 Liberty Candidate Thread

Link this post out to all of your Twitter, Facebook, email, etc lists that are fans of liberty. This forum is open for anyone to see. This is our chance to re-establish liberty through the people

WEBSITE: http://candidates4liberty.com/home.html

All,
We need to start consolidating and getting ahead of our competition to support our candidates for 2014. I have started a list of Ron Paul Republicans, Libertarians, Constitutionalists and fellow travelers to donate, support, campaign, or do whatever you want to help with. Please add or make suggestions and I will update. Let's keep this thing going!!

I realize some people won't like the non-purity of the fellow travelers, but some people will want to support them over the alternative. Also, I'm just doing this as a way to consolidate the candidates and info into one location. You may think that x or y doesn't have a chance, or maybe it's strategically better to support z. That's awesome, but not my intention with this thread. I want to identify the BEST candidates for each seat and hopefully we have a someone in every race.

FELLOW TRAVELERS:
Question: What is a Fellow Traveler?
Answer: It is, in the author of this thread's opinion, someone who displays most of the traits of adherence to the Constitution, civil liberties (in a libertarian way), and strong fiscal conservatism, but not at the 90% and up range. This is done through a view of the person's issue statements and voting record, but is subjective in nature and thus should be validated by the person who is considering providing support. This is an organizational tool, not a panacea. Please provide feedback in the comments if I have made an oversight.

Awesome thread. Thanks. Hard not to "George Carlin" it today

Awesome thread. Thanks. After spending some time looking through my "choices", it's hard not to "George Carlin" it today...

Warning- George likes the F word, in case you didn't know

http://youtu.be/xIraCchPDhk

I guess there are a few reasons to go
1. 20 chances to write in "none of the above"
2. The "I voted" stickers are really cool
3. A chance to wear my "Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem" T-shirt... or do I go with the... "A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have"
4. MILFs- you know... Moms I'd Like to Foster... towards liberty.

Or you can...

1. Hand out Jury Nullification to voters after they exit the building http://www.jurybox.org/resources/

2. Hand out Common Core flyers http://stopcommoncore.com/

3. Hand out cards to advertise your meetups.

"What if the American people learn the truth" - Ron Paul

That would be great, but easily a misdemeanor in California

Call me what you will, spending my day arguing about where 100ft begins/ends with a "peace officer" does not sound like fun. I will choose to fight my "battles" elsewhere. Thanks for the suggestions though. (Also, I have jacked up hands, so anything with the word hand in it... like handout, handshake, handcuffs... not currently very appealing)

"18370. No person, on election day, or at any time that a voter may
be casting a ballot, shall, within 100 feet of a polling place, a
satellite location under Section 3018, or an elections official's
office:
(a) Circulate an initiative, referendum, recall, or nomination
petition or any other petition.
(b) Solicit a vote or speak to a voter on the subject of marking
his or her ballot.
(c) Place a sign relating to voters' qualifications or speak to a
voter on the subject of his or her qualifications except as provided
in Section 14240.
(d) Do any electioneering as defined by Section 319.5.
As used in this section, "100 feet of a polling place, a satellite
location under Section 3018, or an elections official's office"
means a distance 100 feet from the room or rooms in which voters are
signing the roster and casting ballots.
Any person who violates any of the provisions of this section is
guilty of a misdemeanor."

Know your rights,

and inform LEO that there is no excuse for not knowing the law. Print the following and keep it on your person.

What I have suggested is not campaigning/electioneering.

Norton v Shelby County, 118 U.S. 425

An unconstitutional act is not law. It confers no rights, it imposes no duties, it affords no protections, it creates no office, it is in legal contemplation as inoperative as though it had never been passed.

18 U.S. Code § 241 - Conspiracy Against Rights

If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same; or
If two or more persons go in disguise on the highway, or on the premises of another, with intent to prevent or hinder his free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege so secured—
They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, they shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.

18 U.S. Code § 242 - Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law

Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.

Marbury v. Madison, 5 U.S. 137

This is one of the leading cases in the history of the U.S. The opinion of the court was “Anything that is in conflict is null and void of law; Clearly for a secondary law to come in conflict with the supreme was illogical; for certainly the supreme law would prevail over any other law, and certainly our forefathers had intended that the supreme law would be the basis for all laws, and for any law to come in conflict would be null and void of law. It would bear no power to enforce, it would bear no obligation to obey, it would purport to settle as though it had never existed, for unconstitutionality would date from the enactment of such a law, not from the date so branded by a court of law. No courts are bound to uphold it, and no citizens are bound to obey it. It operates as a mere nullity or a fiction of law, which means it doesn't exist in law.”

"What if the American people learn the truth" - Ron Paul

You are right,

Thanks for all your suggestions. Please forgive me for venting some of my election day frustrations here in this VERY INFORMATIVE thread. In hindsight, not the place for it. Just being my typical smart-ass self.

We have basically the same

We have basically the same rule in Texas. I stand over 100 feet away, and get them as they head in.

NJ Primary Today

I will be casting two votes today. One for Murray Sabrin for Senate and one for David Larsen (NJ 7th) for Congress. However, I am not feeling optimistic about the outcome.

Jeff Bell is running against Sabrin and has been making robocalls in support of the gold standard and bashing the Federal Reserve. The truth is that he was brought in to split the vote away from Sabrin, making a Cory Booker victory that much more inevitable. What has Sabrin done to counteract this? Crickets. Still, I'll vote for Sabrin and hope he has a plan to do something, ANYTHING, to go up against Booker in November.

As for David Larsen, he will get my vote today and should Larsen lose, the Democrat will get my vote in the general, simply because I will vote for ANYONE running against Leonard Lance. Lance has got to go, not get rewarded for his betrayal.

Texas has a internet radio

Texas has a internet radio network dedicated to Texas Liberty Candidates, and politics from a pro liberty perspective. Raging Elephants Radio interviewed basically every single 2014 Republican Liberty Candidate, as well as some other big names in Texas politics.

The movement in other States should emulate them.
Support them by spreading the word through social media!

This thread has hit its one-year point

From the time of establishing this, we have 100 up votes, established website that provides people information. We also have a Facebook page with 4,300 likes, another page we guest post on with a little under 2,000 likes, and a Twitter account with 739 followers.

Can we spread the word and make a difference in 2016? Our impact will probably be relatively small in 2014, but we can make a difference if our reach keeps expanding.

There is almost no

There is almost no competition, sadly, for an almost complete list of liberty candidates. So Through the roof we go!
:)

Pretty good liberty primary in North Idaho

Heather Scott and Sage Dixon both won their primaries for state house, with Christian Fioravanti representing the constitution party for State Senate. Also, Raul Labrador won his primary as an incumbent for U.S. House.

This list needs to be on the front page until the election.

if your one of the 7 or so

if your one of the 7 or so states voting today don't forget this list

The only liberty candidate win in a major race

Was Barry Loudermilk in GA. Pretty much a wash since Paul Broun left his seat.

I'll have to check the state races later today. I imagine they are much better.

The big lesson is that it is hard to unseat incumbents. The state races hold the most promise for us, but we need to keep pushing the Federal races too.

There were some people running unopposed like James Buchal and Art Robinson in Oregon.

Early Runoff Voting in Texas,

Early Runoff Voting in Texas, today through Friday May 23rd. Runoff election day May 27th!

I stand with:
Ken Paxton for for Attorney General.
Wayne Christian for Railroad Commissioner.

Bob Hall for State Senate District 2.
Konni Burton for State Senate District 10.

And most importantly:

T.J Fabby for State House District 10.
AND
Philip Eby for State House District 58.

I may have asked you before...

Why do you prefer Wayne Christian? He says he stood against the Trans-Texas Corridor. That is good, but also a no-brainer. Any other good qualities? I attended one of his debates and got a bad taste from his attitude regarding fracking.

Yes, you have asked :) And I

Yes, you have asked :)

And I responded
http://www.dailypaul.com/287246/2014-liberty-candidate-threa...

http://www.dailypaul.com/287246/2014-liberty-candidate-threa...

By the way, what would you like him to say about fracking?

"He says he stood against the Trans-Texas Corridor"
He did.

"That is good, but also a no-brainer."
I wish all the politicians agreed.

Property rights is the ONLY issue I personally care about for Railroad Commissioner. Wayne seems like the obvious choice to me.

"Any other good qualities?"
My understanding is that Wayne was the most conservative in the House before Simpson, Stickland and the other good guys were elected. So I think he has good qualities. I don't know how any of them pertain to the RR Com job. I don't know how much power is in the office.

If you don't like him, I guess don't vote for him. But I have zero reasons to think Ryan Sitton is even close to as good, let alone better than Christian.

I'm ready the campaign flyers

Always a good source of factual information...(eyeroll)

Anyway, Christian is being attacked for supporting alternative fuels. Sitton must be courting big oil and gas.

I would have liked to hear one, at least one, candidate that would have said that he would investigate the claims that fracking causes earthquakes and water pollution. As it is, the local landowners will have the very difficult task of gathering evidence and suing.

All good choices Stonewall

Will do a post supporting Fabby and Eby tomorrow. Will target at voters there.

Statement of Rep. Steve Toth:

“It’s an exciting accomplishment to make it to the runoff, given that we were outspent more than 5-1 by Mr. Creighton and Mr. Bunch. Despite Mr. Creighton’s massive funding advantage, he couldn’t close the deal and it’s clear that voters want this conversation to continue. The runoff will provide a focused opportunity to discuss the differences in our commitment to the conservative agenda, and I look forward to the weeks ahead where I believe our grass-roots volunteer advantage will propel us to victory in the runoff. Tonight, I want to congratulate Gordy Bunch and Mike Galloway for running strong campaigns and for their service to Texas.”
