2014 Liberty Candidate Thread

Link this post out to all of your Twitter, Facebook, email, etc lists that are fans of liberty. This forum is open for anyone to see. This is our chance to re-establish liberty through the people

WEBSITE: http://candidates4liberty.com/home.html

All,
We need to start consolidating and getting ahead of our competition to support our candidates for 2014. I have started a list of Ron Paul Republicans, Libertarians, Constitutionalists and fellow travelers to donate, support, campaign, or do whatever you want to help with. Please add or make suggestions and I will update. Let's keep this thing going!!

I realize some people won't like the non-purity of the fellow travelers, but some people will want to support them over the alternative. Also, I'm just doing this as a way to consolidate the candidates and info into one location. You may think that x or y doesn't have a chance, or maybe it's strategically better to support z. That's awesome, but not my intention with this thread. I want to identify the BEST candidates for each seat and hopefully we have a someone in every race.

FELLOW TRAVELERS:
Question: What is a Fellow Traveler?
Answer: It is, in the author of this thread's opinion, someone who displays most of the traits of adherence to the Constitution, civil liberties (in a libertarian way), and strong fiscal conservatism, but not at the 90% and up range. This is done through a view of the person's issue statements and voting record, but is subjective in nature and thus should be validated by the person who is considering providing support. This is an organizational tool, not a panacea. Please provide feedback in the comments if I have made an oversight.

2016 Presidential Candidates Exposed!
http://www.dailypaul.com/307360/2016-potential-presidential-...

Let's Focus on Municipal Elections in 2014

If we focus on Municipal Election we can get a very stong foot-hold at the local level.

The 2016 election will, with Rand and any independent that runs, naturally rally us around national politics (congress, senate, president).

State offices will naturally grow in the middle, getting boosts during every election, if we focus on Municipal/Local in "off" Elections, and let the national dialouge bring us to big-issues during the Presidential elections.

I'm not saying don't run for Congress, or not to support a congressional candidate.

I'm saying consider putting more energy and attention locally. Especially funds. If we don't take moments to focus/target our energy at the lowest level of Government, we will not have actually built an Independent Movement. If we can only focus our energy during high-profile Presidential Elections, then we really aren't building the network we need to support any President we ever get elected.

You can even think of our work in local government, and state/congress, as supporting ANY President. Supporting to be held more accountable to the people, supporting in representing the People. Whether it is working directly with, or by being that opposition pressure that is needed to balance any government.

I've had issues get stopped because someone in office took a hard-line stance, they are usually in offices that act as the last line of legal protection for the government, local, state, federaly.

If we want our government to survive, you want to protect it from being sued.

I'm "small government" but I am not no-government. In my opinion, you are free to live the way you want government or not. This is the wild. People, or animals, may come after you. Protect yourself. It's the natural law.

So I'm more balance I'd say when it comes to government. And I think we all are when it comes to local goverment. I'm getting support for my Municipal Office run from people who have a completely different National position than I.

To get the big-picture issues through the Federal Government we need to build concensus. Changing our Foreign Policy is a huge shift in the norm of a lot of people's lives. Our Republic is set up to force us to work together to ease through cultural shifts. Of course, the Civil Rights Movement didn't look all too easy.

We need to learn to respect people for who they are, political boxes don't mean we treat them any different. It's hard enough bringing people together around local issues, that our fight as activists and "governors" should be to build our abilities to work with people by working locally first.

I'll write more on this as my campaign progresses.

Jack Wagner

I very much agree with you

and I do look out for local candidates and list them on here and on the website.

The problem is they are much harder to research with regards to liberty positions. I rely a lot on local people to help identify the local ones. Stonewall has been awesome for Texas and Janice for Illinois.

Someday I will develop a full-fledged research arm to really dig, but right now it is just me and crowdsourcing (and I have other full-time obligations). Anything people can do to look into their local races and bring up candidates and why they think they are "liberty" is huge.

Edit: Also, what are you running for (still WA 20th LD)?

I definitely appreciate what you have built.

I'm speaking not to you so much, but more to the movement, and even a lot more to the candidates.

We do have successful campaigns from activists into state positions. Those jumps do happen.

But even Rep. Massie was first the Judge Executive of his County, and Rep. Amash was elected to the State House in Michigan.

Even President Obama went from a Local Activist, to State House, to Senate, to President.

So if anything, the highest ambition of any Liberty Activist looking to run for office should be their State House, and best yet, an office in their City/County (Municipal) Government.

Then we will have hundreds of strong candidates for Congress in 2016 or 2018 (or 2020), and we will have already done a bunch of ground work at the local and state levels, which is what we need to do anyway to build concensus amongst the America People for our positions nationally.

And I'm running for Sonoma City Council.

Jack Wagner

Good points Jack

I know it's a lot to ask but, it's getting kinda hard to keep track of everyone on here. It might also invite people from each State to comment more with updates. Just a suggestion.
