Ben Swann's Liberty is Rising Truth in Media Project

I want to begin by saying thank you for signing up for this email list and for your incredible support of my work with Reality Check and Full Disclosure over the past 2 years.

As promised, you are now the first to hear in detail about my- actually our- next step. Beginning next week on Monday, June 10, we will officially launch the "Liberty Is Rising Truth in Media Project" on Kickstarter. As I have told you, this is the most involved and meaningful project I have ever been involved in and it is not something I can do on my own.

The "Liberty is Rising Truth in Media Project" is a 3 step process:

Inform, Engage, Activate:

Step 1: INFORM

The first step of this project and the primary use of Kickstarter is to create high-end, high-quality Reality Check style segments that can be presented to the public via streaming content sites such as Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, or devices such as Roku and BenSwann.com. Our goal is to produce 100 high quality five to six minute shows and by launching this project independently, the restrictions on subject matter by corporate bosses will not be an issue.

Why do the videos need to be so high quality? Simple, we need to spread this message as far out as we can. Like it or not, we live in a very media-savvy culture and if the public at large is to take this kind of journalism seriously, they need to be able to hear and see it in a way that is deemed credible. You can watch network news programming all day and never hear anything of substance but it sure looks pretty. If we are to educate and inform the public on issues of war, the drug war, monetary policy, drone strikes, the NDAA, CAFR, crony capitalism, etc... it MUST be done in the style and format generations of Americans have been trained to accept as "professional".

The films will be distributed via multiple platforms. First, we continue to share new content virally via Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, BenSwann.com, and continue to allow alternative media blog sites to use our films without charge and embed them, as long as they are shown in their entirety. This is important because we want as many people exposed to our journalism as possible.

We will be rolling out a highly interactive, informative website that will include all Full Disclosure episodes, a forum, Ben Swann podcasts, and a mobile app.

Also, as I mentioned, we are going to attempt to spread these films into new arenas such as streaming sites like Netflix, Hulu, and Spotify. Again, the goal is to engage the largest audience possible.

Step 2: ENGAGE
Each of us must impact our own circle of influence.

We are currently building out a multi-faceted platform of engagement where you and I will work together to take single issues and impact public opinion. This platform will contain resources like stats, infographics, archived articles, and other educational materials that will be available to download or share.

Students:
This platform will work directly with college student groups like Young Americans for Liberty, Young Republicans, Young Democrats and politically independent groups, giving students hard facts and data to share with peers and teaching them how to hold information sessions on campus.

Journalists:
We will work with journalists across the country challenging them to engage in critical thinking and questioning of local, state and national leaders on issues of importance. We'll equip them on how to challenge the status quo in their newsrooms and move beyond reading press releases.

Faith Based Communities:
We will engage faith-based communities (Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, etc) and challenge the acceptance of government control over their religious activities.

Local Lawmakers:
We will engage local and state lawmakers and challenge the over-reach, over taxation, and policing for profit that is taking place in every city and town in America.

Tea Party:
We will engage those in the Tea Party movement who entered the movement for the right reasons, to protest over taxation and government control.

Occupy:
We will engage those in the Occupy movement who rightly protested the consolidation of wealth among a small group of people and who have created a crony capitalist system (that isn't capitalism at all).

Building Consensus:
The goal is to help Americans escape the Left/Right paradigm of arguing with each other while politicians and big money run the nation and our lives. We desire to create unity among all these groups in the areas where we can agree. That happens when we are defined not by who we stand against, but what we stand for. It is not about Left vs. Right or Republican vs. Democrat... but Liberty vs. Tyranny.

You and I will go through this process together. Beyond just sharing the content, you will be instrumental to the gathering of information and the actual creation of that content. With your engagement we will be able to create public awareness and social willingness to drive change.

Step 3: ACTIVATE

The best part of this step is that the work you and I will have already done is key. Having forced important issues into the forefront of public awareness we will have already changed minds and that will allow action to be taken.

Through strategic partnerships with established political and student groups as well as individual experts in the fields or medicine, education, economics, security, drug policy etc. we will begin to crowd-source "change strategies".

The end result of these strategies will include legal and legislative process for changing U.S. policy overseas and here at home. We will challenge lawmakers who continue to engage in hypocritical behavior and are unwilling to stand up for rule of law. As a long-term goal, we will eventually work with lawmakers to draft legislation to correct the nation's trajectory. Dr. Ron Paul borrowed the words of Victor Hugo when he declared in 2008, “An idea whose time has come cannot be stopped by any army or any government.”

I recently had the chance to interview Dr. Paul and we talked in depth about the changing media landscape. How has media changed for a man who has spent his entire life attempting to change the system?

"When I first started in politics in the 70's, we basically had three major networks and they were very, very close together on philosophy…..But now the options are great…..Now the information is going out differently. It's going out on handheld devices and computers and telephones and they can turn you on and off when they want. They have so many more choices."

Dr. Paul then added:
I'm optimistic that things are going to do well and I'm optimistic because you're (Ben Swann) involved in this fight with us."

Again, I want to thank you for your support so far. As you can see this next step is a very ambitious project. There is risk here but I believe that every great movement in history has been accompanied by great challenge and risk.

Why aren't more supporting this project?

Gosh, for a group of people who clamor vigorously for unbiased media on subjects the MSM won't touch (Federal Reserve, non-interventionist foreign policy, etc.) I'm surprised and disappointed to see that so far with only a short time left before the project deadline that only a few thousand people have pledged to support this project. How many Ron Paul supporters are there? How many people visit this site? Isn't this the EXACT sort of project that we DPers have been begging for for years?

It's time to put our money where our mouths are. Isn't that what capitalism is about? C'mon guys, time to pony up. Spread the word, do your part, or quit complaining. Ben was about the only journalist who gave Dr. Paul a fair shake during the primary and election. Time to show the world that #LibertyIsRising, now go pledge!

Google & Vice 24 Hour News Channel

Shane Smith briefly mentioned that Vice was launching a 24 hour news network with Google in multiple countries. Believe it was on his Charlie Rose interview but he didn't say much about it.

Vice is entertaining

but hardly truth or Liberty-based. In fact, they've done a number of hit pieces on people and groups within the movement. I'd be hard-pressed to call a 'round the clock news service from them a "good thing".

Look and Feel Credible?

"they need to be able to hear and see it in a way that is deemed credible"... so in other words it needs to have the look and feel of all the MSM news, 99% of which is not credible.... so you want the format of false news, because the fake news is deemed credible, so you want to make real news, with a fake look... come on Ben, what are you doing? Who told you that, Jeremy Richter? I think Jeremy's heart is in the right place, but he has the look and feel of someone, apology in advance, "smarmy"... maybe he's not, but that is the look and feel that he gives off, at least to me. And then you ask for $1.25 million dollars on kickstarter, and then cancel it.... and now kickstarter again? Usually, if people need money from kickstarter, they do that on the side, and don't quit their day jobs!

I wish you and Jeremy the best, although I would like to know the source of Jeremy's income and clients as it almost seems like he's trying to derail you... I mean going from a major network station back to the internet and kickstarter, does not seem like a step to getting in front of more people.

Ben is on the correct path. Leaving mainstream media will give him journalistic control. This was not given to him at the Fox affiliate.

His new network will also continue to prove traditional the medium of delivering news as irrelevant.

And yes, in order to get our message to infiltrate the glazed over Joe six pack, we have to present in a manor that is to par with the journalistic image that many are used to. Does this mean that his message is somehow fake because it looks high quality and professional? That is a stretch.

Hater?

Okay, so talking common sense, asking valid questions, you label me as a hater... ha ha ha.. way to silence people, where did you learn that from? Interesting how the questions of Jermeny Richter's financial backers you ignore, and also ignore the question of $1.25 million. If people are going to donate money, the least you could be is transparent.

As for "infiltrating Joe six pack", your whole premise is that people are stupid and dumb, which is insulting to people in general. I don't believe people are dumb and stupid, I believe in humanity. I believe people need more real news, regardless of the package... the package actually can detract from the real news. You are basically saying that people are dumb and brainwashed so you are going to try and brain wash them your way, with glitzy videos and bikini bimbos wrapped in flags... how did that work out with Elektable?

As for "high-quality", you don't seem to understand what high-quality is... James Corbett is super high-quality, and he does that from what looks like his bedroom, from a laptop webcam, in Japan. The reporting he does is loaded with content, (including a clip of Ben Swann from what looks like NBC channel 9) and since you are using so many cliches, how about this one: "Content is King".

You want to use fancy cameras to film Ben, for the internet, and that makes no sense either, as everything streaming on the internet gets compressed... it is either that or it would take a week for most people to download simple videos.

Credibility

Credibility is real and tangible.

In an office you must wear a suit.

An officer must wear his uniform.

A nurse must wear white, and so forth.

To disseminate information and be believable, you cannot
produce it on grainy webcam with glistening background.

It must be a high quality finish.

The first rule in selling something is to give the customer what the customer wants.

People want and demand quality finish. It's the language they understand. You are speaking to them in their language.

Daily Paul people do not mind non-traditional presentations

I support what Ben Swann is doing.

Indeed, those who follow Daily Paul understand all the information shared are to be taken with due diligence given the uncertain motives of the original information sources. To that end, we do not place higher credence to commentary or analysis above the sometimes chaotic nature of uncut raw film or audio recording. We value sites like the Daily Paul not because we necessarily find more commentary here than traditional media but rather because we trust to find unedited raw media footage and commentary arising from such media.

But the Daily Paul community comprises only 1/1000th percent of the information consuming public (if that).

Given that sites like the Daily Paul have been around for a while and yet the majority of the nation has yet to embrace the alternative media presented herein, there must be another impediment (however shallow) that creates a barrier to rich information sources like this one.

Ben Swann, given his exposure to ratings metrics, has an inkling of what makes for compelling presentations and is entering the frontier of an information-starved media consuming public. To say that Swann's approach is the only effective approach is not true, but it does provide a litmus test for whether traditional media aesthetics combined with substantive reporting is enough to wake the public to the dearth of substance in the MSM.

To use one consumer analogy, consider that of the car buyer. Consider two cars with the same price tag of two years worth of wages. Understanding that the main purpose of a car is its utility in transportation, secondary factors like engine power or car aesthetics should not be a major factor in the purchase. Yet, if all else is equal between the cars and the only difference is aesthetics and engine power, a nicer looking but underpowered car will win over the ugly but more powerful car. Even if we can make the correlation that somehow an underpowered car makes for unreliable transportation (which we established was the main purpose), aesthetics has a strong hold over many consumers' determination of worth and can even overwhelm what should be the most rational decisions.

TV is dead

and very little on the internet has high-end production behind it. So there is a void to be filled. I can see the irony in this, but realize that production value has propped up the media dinosaurs far too long. Even if you don't think it holds back alternative media, it will undermine the false legitimacy of the TV news that maintains itself by looking better and being more accessible.

We can win if we focus on winning people over.

(Here is a repost of an idea I posted on DP several times.I think Ben Swann would be a great spokesperson/narrator for such videos/ads.)
If we had a large enough amount of people in America and the world united behind our shared principles, and demanded strict adherence to said principles over politics or parties,then the politicians would truly have to represent us or find themselves out of a job and irrelevant.

We can make progress every single day if we focus on winning hearts and minds. Here is a suggestion on how to do it: We get one or two great short ads/videos that promote our shared values of truth, freedom, and peace. Just picture a short video explaining why we should bring our troops home, have sound money, cut taxes and spending, balance the budget, end the drug war and give power to the individual while promoting truth, freedom, peace, non-aggression and voluntary humanitarian help to our fellow man.

Then we have a money bomb only to DIRECTLY purchase airtime for said ad/video. We vote with our dollars on which video is best.Then we have a "time bomb"(lol) where we all donate our time and focus our efforts spreading the video on facebook, twitter, youtube etc. Keeping it front page on the DP would surely help. Imagine if for a period of time, let's say a month, the front page of Daily Paul was dedicated to an effort to spread a video that promoted all the principles we share. The video could also include a link or mention of DP sending new people here to join in the effort. Then we fine tune our efforts to make sure we are winning people over. And as long as we see it is working, we NEVER stop.

With the "time bomb" method, we could make our message go viral on the internet, nationwide and worldwide, without asking people for money. With the right videos and a united effort by us, I am convinced this would work. In my opinion, this is how we win.

Anyone got a better idea? I'm all ears.
