There should be a flat tax. And everyone should pay it.
Says who? And who are you or anyone else to tell ME what I should pay you or others?
If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...
should be zero. :-)
There shouldn't be any new tax system until the IRS is abolished and the 16th amendment repealed.
I should have explained...flat rate for everyone because it would get rid of the need for the IRS.
Flattening the tax rates would IN NO WAY get rid of the need for the IRS.
Why are you continuing to spew this lie?
I may not have done all the homework on it and just believing what I've read or seen. I don't claim to be a pro at this but it would make sense. Taxes were collected before the IRS.
Eight percent are complete and total morons.
That headline seems to be the big news from this interview.
How many Lybians did we kill with the billion dollars worth of cruise missiles we lobbed into Lybia?
WITHOUT a declaration of war.
The republicans didn't seem to care about THAT. In fact, they SUPPORTED it!
Rand sounds like every other establishment GOP hack who "PRETENDS" to care about Benghazi while making a political footbal out of it.
HEY RAND: When you ATTACK a country you might get a little BLOWBACK.
Rand needs to talk to his dad about things like that.
I'm happy to NOT be a republican any longer.
"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
Go then. Join your 3 buddies in the 3rd party. I think they got like 1% of the vote last election.
I see a lot of tyrants disguised in liberty clothing out today supporting taxes and bog government and defending Rand's flax tax. Amazing... just amazing...
Ideally, there would be no taxes at all, and the IRS would be abolished. Such a system could actually work, as many here would surly attest too.
Realistically, I believe it's impossible to simply shut off the tap to get there. This would destroy the country as surly as most of the issues facing it today, just as fast, or faster.
I personally would prefer a more humane option, which allows for most Americans to "catch up" as it were.
I see Rand's flat tax as a baby step in the right direction. I think it will reduce the IRS to irrelevancy, and show that government is intrusive and unnecessary in the process.
I see it as either baby steps or a "reset". The baby steps may take longer, but could save more humans along the way. I still believe Rand is headed in the right direction, its just a long and bumpy road.
Just open the box and see
No, it's more like principle v. pander
Explain how the flat tax would work. Who would collect it? A flat tax is worse than what we have now.
I don't know anything about Rand's proposed flat tax beyond what was revealed in the interview.
Your's and others comments here have given me pause for thought.
Gary Johnson proposed a "Fair Tax", which was basically a sales tax. This has an "opt out" option built in. Many people already don't buy anything, or live nearly off grid. There are detractors of his proposal also.
I understand what you say about principal vs pander, but what alternatives are there? I would certainly stand behind a statesman that did none of that, but, where are they? And, without a whole lot of them, what chance do they have? Despite the support for Ron Paul and his type here on DP, it's still a minority opinion at this time, and doubtful it's strong enough to put a statesman in a position of real power in Washington.
Ron Paul was such a statesman, and I did (and do) stand behind him. He fought the system for 30+ years and managed to start a wondrous grass fire, though he never managed to change the system.
I don't see a viable alternative to Rand Paul at this time, and I don't see how a flat tax is worse than what we have now. At the least, it's a change. Any change has a way of shaking people up, and allowing their minds to open, if only slightly.
If principal wins the day, and the IRS, 16th amendment, and tax is abolished tomorrow, what of the millions of people on welfare? Tough nuggies?
Like it or not, America has built a system of generational dependence on the welfare state. Most are simply caught in it, without even realizing what's happened. Much the way most Americans not on welfare are also trapped in their own reality paradigm. Is there no solution which gives those people a chance to wake up?
No, its more like reality v. fantasy. Do we joust at windmills or take plausible steps in the right direction?
It may be satisfying to you to righteously support a purist with no influence and no hope of ever changing anything. I want more than that.
Flat tax is a step in the right direction. It will help to get rid of the IRS. Plus it won't put a label on him.
Reading and understanding the present tax code is a step in the right direction.
“...taxes are not raised to carry on wars, but that wars are raised to carry on taxes”
Thomas Paine, Rights of Man
Why do you assume I am a sir?
Wow..that was rude.
Rand Paul supports a flat tax. This is sad news and it shows how little Sen. Paul knows about the true nature of taxation in these United States.
As the law stands now, (Constitution, Black letter law and Supreme Court decisions that have never been overturned), the federal government has no legal claim to private sector earnings not connected to a federal privilege or license. In other words it is an excise tax laid on an activity.(An activity that most Americans can avoid.)
Assuming a law could be passed that imposes a flat tax on property or earnings on everyone everywhere at all times, simply because it exists, is to give the government domain over...well...you fill in the blank. Life, Liberty, property...the pursuit of happiness. What Rand Paul is promoting here is slavery. I'll be voting Libertarian.
Believe it or not, the tax code is legal and moral. To understand this you must first understand what the code actually says.
BTW, I just got 100% of my withholdings back from the IRS, including social security and Medicaid. But, I have read the code and I know a few legal terms and a little bit about statutory construction. It's not hard, folks. I can point you in the right direction. WSHIELDS@COMCAST.NET It's free.
If your so smart, why don't you win an election and repeal the income tax for us. Ohhh no. Your not about that. Your about throwing rocks at the guy who is actually trying to position himself to perhaps win an election and have some influence on rolling back this monster Gov't.
You people kill me. You want Rand to come out for no tax at all, like we are in the power position. Your far more likely to lose the 1st and 2nd amendment and see your tax rates go up than go to zero.
Some of you people can't forgive Rand for actually trying to win. You just want him to add another loss to our collection of loss just like his dad, who was a great guy, but who never learned to hold his tongue just a bit, for the good of his country.
Just look at what has happened since 2008. We are an economic basket case. More war. More insecurity. 1st and 2nd amendment under fire. Deficit unbelievable. Old Ron told it like is ... and lost. And look at us now. And i might add, Ron never believed he could win, not did he ever try to put together a winning strategy. And we who supported him, got our reward, which was hearing him tell it like it is and damn the consequences.
But now it is time to get a guy in office that will move us back from the abyss. And that means we have to do more that all this bitching and hand ringing from the sideline.
You said>>> If your so smart, why don't you win an election and repeal the income tax for us.
The income tax does not NEED repealing. And you don't need me to run for office to save you. SAVE YOURSELF!! read the law and demand your money back. I offered to show you how. You respond by pissing and moaning. Get bent.
I'm so sure we can all just demand our money back.
The LP got less than 2% of the vote last election. Why not do what RP said and change the Republican Party from within. It's working.
By becoming one of them?
Obanana may have lost 'moral authority' to lead anything, however, he still has 'the' authority and flunking this bitch upward is a direct in your face middle finger from Obanana telling us just that. It probably also helps get her to keep her mouth shut and promoting his cabinet and policies...
