By CNN's Dylan Reynolds

LONDON, England -- When Rudolph Giuliani received his honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday, he joined an exclusive club with a membership dating back to ancient Rome.

Giuliani received the award in recognition for his work following the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

Honorary knighthoods are awarded by the queen, on the advice of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, to those who have made an important contribution to relations between their country and Britain.

Does this not disqualify Mayor Rudy Giuliani as a Presisidential candidate for the United States????????

United States Constitution.
Article 1

No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

Rudy Giuliani has accepted a title from the Queen of England. He cannot be president of the United States. The title of Honorary Knight. Is a title. The Queen is the head of the foreign state of Britain.
Yes/No?

Benito knighted = Benito disqualified from even seeking office

... is what would naturally (i.e. free from contradiction) follow from Art 1.
Bye, bye Benito.

You are correct he can no

You are correct he can no longer be president unless he renounces his knight ship.

I made a youtube video about

I made a youtube video about this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx7aQmx2YR8
Turns out that he's OK here.
"no person holding any office"
he wasn't holding any office at the time of his knighting. The original 13th amendment is another matter however.

Greetings to all,

When I saw this post I signed in just to make this quik post.
I wanted to say this is the kind of , on line, debate I wish my children could sit in on!!!
Imagine...American's, debating the meaning of the Constitution.
I love this!! My children would learn more in ten minutes here, than they learn in a week at the public schools. where, by the way, there is no correct answer and no child is left behind...L.O.L.

God bless and GO Dr. Paul

Giuliani knighted and McCain was born in Panama

Look Giuliani was knighted and McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone (the last time I looked, thats not naturally born on US soil)

Apparently the media doesn't care.

That's too bad, cause I kinda liked Schwazenegger as a moderate republican before I knew Ron Paul existed. I mean if we're going to allow exceptions to the rules, Arnold has been filmed in more american made films than I recall....doesn't that qulaify him too?

QUESTION: If Sen. John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone, how can he be president? Article II of the Constitution says "No person except a natural born citizen . . . shall be eligible to the office of President."

ANSWER: Are you looking for a drama that would rival the 2000 election controversy? When McCain was born, in 1936, the canal zone was a U.S. territory. He was born on an Air Force base, to U.S. citizens.

etc., etc.

Congress apparently OK'ed it - anybody know?

This is what Greenspan's lawyer had to say about Greenspan's own knighthood according to the link given by JerryB9105 :

Quote:" Mr. Phillips has asked whether the proposed honorary knighthood for you would violate the Emoluments Clause of the U. S. Constitution. This clause provides that:

[N]o person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them [the United States], shall without the consent of Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or title, of any kind whatsoever, from any King, Prince or foreign state. (Emphasis added.)

Congress gave its consent to the acceptance of certain gifts and decorations in the Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act (originally enacted in 1966). The Act provides as follows:

The Congress consents to the accepting, retaining, and wearing by an employee of a decoration tendered in recognition of active field service in time of combat operations or awarded for other outstanding or unusually meritorious performance, subject to the approval of the employing agency of such employee.

The Act defines "decoration" to include "an order, device, medal, badge, insignia, emblem or award." The Department of Justice has ruled that an honorary knighthood is an "order" as permitted by the Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act."

13th Amendment

Don't you get tired of being continually #$@&ed in the @#& like in the Louisiana primaries yesterday, where a slate of "pro-life/pro-family" delegates was used to steal a clear win from our pro-Liberty/Consitution-defender candidate ? I certainly do.

I would also think that he

I would also think that he is excluded for not having received the title while in office under the United States (as opposed to the individual states or municipalities such as New York City). Not sure though because who really gives a damn.

they drop all other associations before there elected

It's the same with CFR members like Obama I believe

We should include all titles

We should include all titles of nobility including the lesser title of Esquire. No lawyers...Yea!!

Yes and No

Yes because the law says he cant.

No because NeoCons dont need to obey laws.

.

Your answer is

100% CORRECT....SHHHHH most don't grasp this though

Interesting!

You may have a case, there. And a quite valid case, as the Constitution does indeed say "title of any kind" (e.g., "honorary title" is not excluded).

Aye, and here's the rub:

You're expecting Congress to uphold the Constitution.

*sigh* If only they would, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in.

I understand your point.

But shouldn't it brought out for interpretation and discussion? Are there any constitutionalist lawyers that could be asked???

There is life at the end of the tunnel my friends!

It's time! Rand Paul 2016!

"Truth, Justice, and the American Way!"

Absolutely!!!!

Yes, indeed this should be pursued! Honorary or not, receiving a title of any kind from a king or queen is strictly forbidden in the U.S. Constitution!!!

It will be up to We The People (you know, the folks who are the bosses of government officials) to bring this out, publicize it, discuss it, maybe find constitutional lawyers to argue the case. I cannot imagine Congress pursuing this on their own...even with pressure from the People, I sadly don't have much hope that our sitting Congress will do much of anything about it.

But when have we RP supporters let that stop us? ;)

Original

13th Ammendment.

It dissapeared, but it was ratified.

Great Job in Illinois!

Just dropped you $20. :)

Greenspan

Greenspan was also knighted while he was still serving as Fed chief and apparently no one made any fuss about it then. But then again, all sorts of things that apply to government employees do not apply to people who work at the Federal Reserve (like the Hatch Act) since the Fed is not a department of the executive branch of the Federal Government.

Fed chief isn't a United States office.

The "Federal Reserve" in a private corp, and doesn't have reserves. in other words, it's a lie.

Anyways

Rudy is a long-shot candidate. Maybe he will make a 3rd party run :-)

Maybe he got the consent of Congress, lol

I think that's a good question for one of the debates! I suppose we now have to address him as Sir Ghouliani

The Title of Sir

Only applies the British Nationals

No

It is honorary, not a landed title.

Yes?

It says title of any kind!
