A.C.L.U. Files Suit Against Obama Administration

The irony on that headline is stunning!
A.C.L.U. Sues to Bar ‘Dragnet’ Collection of Phone Records
By CHARLIE SAVAGE - June 11, 2013

WASHINGTON — The American Civil Liberties Union on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration over its “dragnet” collection of logs of domestic phone calls, contending that the once-secret program — whose existence was exposed by a former National Security Agency contractor last week — is illegal and asking a judge to both stop it and order the records purged.

The lawsuit, filed in New York, could set up an eventual Supreme Court test. It could also focus attention on this disclosure amid the larger heap of top secret surveillance matters that were disclosed by Edward J. Snowden, a former N.S.A. contractor who came forward on Sunday to say he was the source of a series of disclosures by The Guardian and The Washington Post.

GOOD!!! Better do it!!!

National Security is not

National Security is not threatened by terrorists. We're not talking about a Normandy style invasion or a nuclear attack by another country which could be an actual prolonged threat. Terrorists have no chance in hell of winning any battle and taking over the US.

Don't anyone hold their

Don't anyone hold their breath that SCOTUS will find this unconstitutional, but if they did the optics would be hilariously ironic, for every legislator who knew of the NSA actions, did nothing, and who is currently calling for Snowden to be tried for treason would themselves have been shown to be traitors.

Yup.The garbage that has already been data-mined is still there.

That slime is ready to be used against Roberts or any other SCOTUS justice if they have to if the case gets that far. How to undo past data trolling is a very good question?

Another VALIDATION for Edward Snowden

Thank God...and I pray for his protection.

The more I read, the more I like them

For the most part the ACLU fights for liberty and the constitution.

Not perfect on the 2nd and they are perceived to be luke warm on religious freedoms at best. Others would argue they are outright hostile to religion.

But where we agree, I really like their tenacity.

They don't understand that separation of church & state means that religious institutions are private institutions and that the state is public. They were separated for good reason.

I do like their stance on the drug war and incarceration.

My understanding of the ACLU

My understanding of the ACLU is that they aren't necessarily limiting themselves to governmental-based restriction of liberties, but also the private sector. Its like MAAD or something; it is a group that targets what they perceive to be a denial of rights anywhere. They would call that store-owner ignorant and someone who is deserving to have a ton of bad publicity on him. Like many, they are a little "ends justifies the means"...if suing the cake maker ensures that other private business owners don't discriminate, then they are OK with it.

Quite simply, they believe that while you have the freedom to discriminate, they have the right to make your life hell until you stop discriminating.

They now can make a claim to being apolitical.

Amazing stuff happening lately.

They always were apolitical.

What the media will say about it (especially Fox News) is never close to the truth. They support principles, not candidates.
