Glenn Greenwald Smart Enough Not To Tell All ImmediatelySubmitted by Doug Eberhardt on Tue, 06/11/2013 - 21:41
Just like any good Texas Hold Em poker player who suppresses his facial reaction to being dealt 2 Aces face down on the deal, Glenn Greenwald isn't about to let the U.S. Media make him a one and done journalist that exposes his tell as to what his future articles will reveal as to what all U.S. citizens need to know about NSA abuses of the 4th Amendment.
Greenwald's genius is in letting the U.S. Media have their initial reaction in defending the Obama administration and past administrations enactment of secret,
Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) approvals, and not secret, Patriot Act abuses to the Constitution, specifically the 4th Amendment; "unreasonable searches and seizures, along with requiring any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause."
It was just last December when Rand Paul was one of only 3 Republican Senators who voted against H.R. 5949 (112th): FISA Amendments Act Reauthorization Act of 2012 in a 73-23 vote. Only 7 Republicans voted against it in the House where the vote was 301 - 118 in favor.
The U.S. Media is trying to play their cards now, not knowing what Greenwald's hand is. They are trying to convince those watching their shows that the U.S. public is in favor of expanded government surveillance.
The media has received the same memo from the White House on this; convince the public that they want to have less privacy in return for more security, and tout the recent Pew Poll (how timely) asking if they mind giving up a little intrusion of privacy in order for the government to investigate terrorists threats.
In fact, neo-conservative Republicans, just like the Senators they voted in who swore to uphold the Constitution but voted "Yay" for more surveillance and against the 4th Amendment, lead the way in willingly giving up their Constitutional Rights for more Big Brother intrusion into their lives.
Of course what Pew poll doesn't tell the public is the survey data is released five months after the reports are issued. You don't even know who was asked! Most of these polls are unreliable to begin with because you don't know what state is called and a random sample of 1000 people doesn't necessarily support the real heart and soul of a nation when the questions asked don't reveal the whole truth of the NSA programs to begin with. Greenwald, you can bet, will provide more clarity in the weeks ahead.
None the less, latest headlines from a Google search on what the U.S. Media says about this Pew poll shows how the U.S. Media only takes one side of the story; the side that says it's OK to give up some freedoms in the name of protecting us from the big bad terrorists:
Many Americans Appear Resigned to Surveillance
New York Times
Americans say they are pretty comfortable with expanded government surveillance
Christian Science Monitor - by Dan Murphy
To the media I say, have you seen
the killings that continue to occur in President Obama's home state lately? Is NSA doing anything about stopping these domestic terrorists, or just the one's with long beard's? How about the over 100,000 gangs that scatter our cities? Or is one race of non-white's killing another race of non-whites acceptable? It seems to be to the national media.
The U.S. Media is playing their hand as strongly as they can to win over the American public. Glenn Greenwald has 2 Aces in the hole and a few more articles to come as this hand plays out.
