GUANTANAMO is 'medical ethics-free zone' say doctors. This story will break your heart.Submitted by sharkhearted on Wed, 06/12/2013 - 23:11
From the Guardian. This story made me tear up for those 166 men being held without charge (WITHOUT CHARGE for over a decade!!!)....the same individuals when...10 years ago...I would have said "let em rot".
I suppose my tears are more disgust at myself that I have let this go on for so long. Obama is a complete lying hypocrite for not closing GITMO in 2009, "one of the first things I will do", he infamously said.
The world is not any "safer" because of GITMO. And many of the detainees are probably not even terrorists....who, at least, even if they ARE terrorists, if the Magna Carta is correct (and vetted for almost 800 YEARS!)...they deserve a fair trial...not to mention charges filed.

Meanwhile, to quote from the Guardian:
"The hunger strike among the 166 detainees at Guantánamo Bay – the vast majority of whom have been held WITHOUT CHARGE FOR MORE THAN A DECADE – began in February, over allegations that guards had behaved roughly and mishandled Qu'rans when they discovered contraband in prisoners' cells. The allegations have been strongly denied by military authorities but the strike has now morphed into a broader protest about conditions at the base and the fate of those held there."
"Despite the fact that 86 OF THOSE HELD HAVE BEEN CLEARED FOR RELEASE, there is little concrete sign that they will be transferred any time soon. The hunger strike has caused headlines around the world and highlighted the failure of President Barack Obama to fulfill a 2008 campaign promise to close the base."
"It has, however, prompted Obama to address the issue. In a high-profile speech in May the president renewed his vow to shut the base down and said he would transfer cleared prisoners to their home countries and appoint a top official to oversee that process. Since then, no appointee has been named and no prisoners have been released."

How have we become a nation supporting our own monsters and psychopaths, to allow this type of indefinite detention and torture???
Where is our conscience? Where are our "supposed" Judaeo-Christian values to allow (or even support) this to happen?
Has any populace in any totalitarian regime which has ever terrorized this planet, under Stalin or Hitler (or a lite version under Bush/Obama for that matter), not become a de facto accomplice to the crime themselves when they (the populace) allow these crimes against humanity to occur in the first place??
I think the answer to that rhetorical question, is obvious.
WAKE UP America.
Those 166 men agonizing in GITMO for a decade and being force-fed because of a hunger strike, against ALL medical ethics, and depriving them of their last shred of dignity to protest by even refusing food, those 166 poor, pathetic, and probably doomed men...could be YOU one day.
From Wikipedia: "Martin Niemöller (1892-1984) was a prominent Protestant pastor who emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps.
Niemöller is perhaps best remembered for the quotation:"
'First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.' "
