Now we just need the other states to follow suit.

This is Good News!

This is, indeed, good news! I live on Long Island, NY. I'm already planning to take the ferry to CT to buy fruits and vegetables!

Edgar Morgan

How far in advance do you plan?!

"Connecticut won’t require the labeling of GMO foods until at least four other states, including one along Connecticut’s border, have enacted similar laws. Connecticut also won’t require labeling unless the total population of these states in the Northeast region of the U.S. — New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania — exceeds 20 million."

So Walmart, green Giant, and others

are going to put the GMO stamp on their sweet corn, LOL?

I am not sure this is the way to go, but it is better than nothing.

It is my understanding the EPA would not stop this poison from hitting the market, claims each state is ultimately responsible for any GMO poisoning or problems. Each state is supposed to approve or disapprove GMO's.

Gold standard: because man can not be trusted to control his greed

Who knows when such anti-GMO laws will take effect.

This is very interesting

Fascinated to see how this is going to work out. Already raises questions about who has authority over what.

Thanks John23

It's weird how many people here can confuse the "Free Market" with outright fraud.

Selling corn that isn't really corn is fraud.

Anyone who wants to argue this fact... I have "modified" gold for sale. Only $800 per oz. Sure it seems a lot like lead, but its not, its gold... Because I decided to call it so... I have "modified" the atomic number of my gold from 79 to 82 (Don't worry, it's for your protection)... I also stamped 14k on it before I dipped it in Roundup.

If after your purchase you are not satisfied... please get bent.

LMAO

anarchist-defeatists hate incrementalism

to the people who are against labeling food:

please just admit you are a total anarchist.

stop hiding behind other labels by calling yourself a "libertarian" when it's so obviously not an accurate description of yourself.

if given the chance to decide on term limits, anarchist-defeatists would take the 'principled' stance and rally against it.

you see, a term limit on our congress is in of itself an act of coercion on congressmen. therefore, anyone who supports term limits must be a closet liberal commie.

to these people, any incremental positive step in government must, by its' very definition, be a backwards one.

go on. live your life in defeat of everything single positive thing that happens in government.

Libertarianism is Anarchy

So maybe you should do some reading or watch some videos because you obviously don't understand that Libertarianism is anarchy (although there are different forms of Libertarianism). There's the Milton Friedman Minarchist form of Libertarianism and then there is pure Libertarianism advocated by Rothbard and David Friedman (Milton's son). There's also other forms in between.

But...

If you actually follow the two main points of Libertarianism...

1) Non-aggression Principle
2) Private Property Rights

... you can't have a government because it is based off of theft (taxation) and coercion.

So, it is you who are wrong and need to admit that you are a statist/socialist that believes that the state owns you and your property, and can therefore, intervene in a voluntary transaction between you and another consenting individual.

Monsanto, GMOs, & Liberty

This was our attempt at trying to introduce liberty against the governmental force of GMO bans and labeling. This video documentation was captured during Nashville's 'March Against Monsanto' rally on May 25th, 2013.

Ingredients of food have to be put on the labels. I read labels

all the time in order to choose wisely for myself and my family. If s/g is GMO I see this as no different, so what is wrong with individual states deciding to do this?

Debbie

Why is this good news?

Why is this good news?

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

It's not

There is a strain of people here who think using government force is totally rad. Though they can't seem to understand that they use the same reasoning as neocons used for the Iraq war and the progressives used for gun control.

"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty."

oh--and to you "RAD" means CORPORATE TYRANNY!

Yep, your sad "strain" cares more about liberating corporations from the "evil freedom loving individuals who want to know the truth and have their food labeled"!!!

Yippee---Corporations are our heroes let's put all our trust in them --for they are soooo trustworthy!

Truly, many that have been critical of GMO labeling are none other than Corporate Libertarians.
Shameful.

Jesus is the saviour of the WHOLE WORLD, "As in Adam all die, so too in Christ ALL shall be made alive." (ICor.15:22) All means all. The pagan 'hell' of literal fire & eternal torment is a lie and is SPIRITUAL TERRORISM. http://www.hopebeyondhell.net

And you address nothing i said

How is your reasoning different from the neocons(on terrorists) or progressives (on guns)? Answer that question.

Yeah, I do care about liberating those, (EVIL GREEDY COPORATION HELL BENT ON KILLING US AND DESTROYING THE WORLD) from government requirements that are often written by corrupt government officials and corporate insiders to benefit big business. That's called corporatism, and you are supporting it by supporting it's infrastructure.

Truly, many that are advocating for government intervention in the market don't understand the problem or how the free market works. They also completely ignore the fact that they are supporting the idea that the government can act and use force when "something scary we don't like" is around, regardless of natural rights.

Instead of advocating for big government to give you something they got by using force, how about starting a campaign for non GMO producers to label their products "GMO free". If there's a market for it, they'll happily do it, OR you could try and get a campaign going to remove limited liability and the benefits government GIVES to corporations to protect them.

"But no, it's to hard to do the right thing, so we should just use the barrel of a gun and the threat of force to get our way." That's the message you send. We can not lead by example if we choose to act as those we oppose when a situation gets hard or is not immediately gratifying.

Nice use of the progressive term "corporate libertarian" though. You must read a ton of Salon.com

If supporting the NAP and the free market makes me a "corporate libertarian" so be it. I'm a corporate libertarian!

No one is allowed to use the phrase

GMO according to the FDA. The all powerful Government has already declared there is no significant difference between GMO's and non-GMO's. There is no free market when it comes to big AG CO. like Monsatan they already have the deck stacked in there favor.

I been thinking lately that the Government wants you to get sick eating GMO's and use your Obamacare or big Pharma to try and heal yourself. So you'll eat GMO's spend all your money trying to get well then die before you can draw any S.S.

Besides This should be a states right issue if the EPA says state are responsible for any GMO poisoning.

What is the name on the bag

I never seen these or any other non-GMO products on the grocery store shelves. I would like to buy these to show support.

This doesn't change the fact the FDA declares there is no significant difference between GMO and non-GMO foods.

I by Labeled Non-GMO food all the time

Go to Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, or really anywhere where there is some decent food and you'll find many, many products that proudly display "NON-GMO" on the box.

Check out the No GMO Project. They verify it and then the company puts that on the box.

The answer

The answer to the Labeling is as consumers we should ask companies that don't use GMO's in their product to state it loudly and proudly. The market would take care of the problem.

Forced Speech Is Unconstitutional

Forced speech is not free speech.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

If it takes putting Monsatan in a head lock and making them

admit that walmart's perfect looking bug free sweet corn is GMO corn, then I'll take it.

EPA says states are ultimately responsible for gmo's any way.

I remember when first hearing of GMO's in the year 2000, they said they would never be for human consumption. But we all know Doritos are made from GMO's for years now. How many more lies do we have to listen to before just small step are taken to prove GMO are even safe. There has never been studies that prove they are safe, but many that show how unsafe they are.

The article inform us that

The article informs us that "After a unanimous vote in the Senate, followed by an overwhelming majority vote in the House (134-3), and strong support from Connecticut Governor Malloy, HB 6527 was passed into law on Monday, June 3rd, 2013". What exactly are the chances that this is a good bill considering it was passed by a unanimous vote in the CT Senate, an overwhelming majority vote in the CT House and strong support from CT Governor Malloy, all socialists? What kind of gullible and stupid do they think we are to trust their judgment?
