Did Hitler Have Term Limits?Submitted by Marc Clair on Fri, 06/14/2013 - 18:51
We’ve been hearing for years about how Iran’s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is the “next Hitler”, in conjunction with the push by the bi-partisan War Party to preemptively attack Iran. We have been told that, much like with the last next Hitler in Saddam Hussein, we would need to act preemptively before Ahmadinejad actually becomes the next Hitler, killing all the Jews, kittens and rainbows in the world along the way.
Apparently the neocons making these claims didn’t examine the Iranian political system very closely. If they had they would see that their claims had an expiration date, as Ahmadinejad’s current term is about to come to an end, and along with it his reign as Iranian President due to the country’s term limits.
Ahmadinejad is known largely for saying Israel should be “wiped off the map” - a claim that has been rebuked. For this and his somewhat eccentric persona he made a convenient target for the neocons to point out and say “Look! Over there! Crazy guy! Muslim! Dictator! HITLER!!!!”
One would expect an evil Hitleresque dictator would cancel elections and assure everyone that, for the safety of the country, he would remain in power indefinitely in order to deal with outside threats. And what a great threat he could point to, with the United States’ constant poking, prodding and generally bellicose dialect towards Iran.
