Digital Blackwater: The companies analyzing your data

Private companies are getting rich probing your personal information for the government. Call it Digital Blackwater

Amid the torrent of stories about the shocking new revelations about the National Security Agency, few have bothered to ask a central question. Who’s actually doing the work of analyzing all the data, metadata and personal information pouring into the agency from Verizon and nine key Internet service providers for its ever-expanding surveillance of American citizens?

Well, on Sunday we got part of the answer: Booz Allen Hamilton. In a stunning development in the NSA saga, Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald revealed that the source for his blockbuster stories on the NSA is Edward Snowden, “a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defense contractor Booz Allen Hamilton.” Snowden, it turns out, has been working at NSA for the last four years as a contract employee, including stints for Booz and the computer-services firm Dell.

The revelation is not that surprising. With about 70 percent of our national intelligence budgets being spent on the private sector – a discovery I made in 2007 and first reported in Salon – contractors have become essential to the spying and surveillance operations of the NSA.

From Narus, the Israeli-born Boeing subsidiary that makes NSA’s high-speed interception software, to CSC, the “systems integrator” that runs NSA’s internal IT system, defense and intelligence, contractors are making millions of dollars selling technology and services that help the world’s largest surveillance system spy on you. If the 70 percent figure is applied to the NSA’s estimated budget of $8 billion a year (the largest in the intelligence community), NSA contracting could reach as high as $6 billion every year.

But it’s probably much more than that.....

The NSA succeeded

in implementing Total Information Awareness. They just did it in secret. I hope Tim Shorrock publishes more.

Spies for Hire-The Secret World of Intelligence Outsourcing

Here is his site and about the book:

If Wars Can Be Started by Lies, They Can Be Stopped By Truth.

There are Sooooooo many

There are Sooooooo many question they need to answer, i just wished that one person would come along and at least ask the majority of them in one sitting, from someone who knows the answer and see's how wrong it is

i.e. has google given encryption keys in any way shape or form to the nsa, that allows them to decrypt encryptions that is "advertised" to be secure

Im learning as i go along, whereas before i thought questions like these were for some reason to much, or "out there" in the realms of possibility, but then reading comments from god bless em, users who know and remember cases past and present.....well, it gets to the point, where you HAVE to start asking the questions, you think is not worth asking, because you think "nah, they wouldnt take it that far, they wouldnt be THAT stupid".........

its not about implying that they do it, its about making sure, THEY DONT, and about being informed if they DO, and not letting something so monumental, so UNIQUE from happening without the peoples awareness, input and most assuredly, permission.....TO THE INDIVIDUAL LEVEL.........a nation based on voluntarism......a nation where the power goes back to where it belongs, EVERY.SINGLE.ONE.OF.US

nice find.

I realized just yesterday that this is more.
More than 'just' my, your, privacy..
This poison is about FASCISM (not just tyranny).
'Analysis' is probably MORE about Industrial/Corporate espionage...
and that chills me to the bone.

Senators Coburn and Levin knew the dangers of NSA Spying

I agree, it is extremely chilling but has been known for years. They are just now being called out on it and more of the public are waking up.

You need to check out: PERMANENT INVESTIGATIONS Committee on Homeland Security 2012

They have known there are thousands of government and private contractors that have sensitive information and about the abuses that have and can result.
