Cnet: NSA admits listening to US phone calls without warrants

The National Security Agency has acknowledged in a new classified briefing that it does not need court authorization to listen to domestic phone calls.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, a New York Democrat, disclosed this week that during a secret briefing to members of Congress, he was told that the contents of a phone call could be accessed "simply based on an analyst deciding that."

If the NSA wants "to listen to the phone," an analyst's decision is sufficient, without any other legal authorization required, Nadler said he learned. "I was rather startled," said Nadler, an attorney and congressman who serves on the House Judiciary committee.

And for the actual exchange, see "Update II" at the bottom of that same post. It is a link to what I consider a source with less repugnant content which also has the Nadler exchange in question.

Though naturally, no source is perfect.

what i want to know, is

what i want to know,

is their version of accountability, an analysts not being able to press the red, unsecure "red button", on his snoopers setup, UNLESS, they have a warrent/court order

because if thats the case.....

im getting a head of myself, they should not have the system, the infrastructure, the ability in the first place.....BECAUSE of how they've done this, BECAUSE of all the things they have done over the years, the generations, i say this.......NO BLOODY EXCEPTIONS, tear the snooper system DOWN

An analyst's decision is sufficient!

If the NSA wants "to listen to the phone," an analyst's decision is sufficient, without any other legal authorization required, Nadler said he learned. "I was rather startled," said Nadler, an attorney and congressman who serves on the House Judiciary committee.

I suppose all the media parrots who have bashed Snowden and snidely asserted that he overstated his authority as a Senior Analyst who could listen in on calls or internet traffic "of an accountant, a judge, or even the POTUS", are holding their heads in shame. Probably not.

Nadler was startled? I'm not.

I'm not startled because I know our government is out of control, over-funded, and acting as if they are above the law. Nadler should know that better than me.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

Assume everything you write and every call you make is being listened to.

Everything since March 2001.

I pray we can get Edward to Iceland.

Perhaps the Chinese don't want to play the heavy, and they might just decide to fly him to Iceland.
