The Parallels Between 1930's Germany and the US Today

The user Equality7-2521 posted a comment in the 3 Reasons the ‘Nothing to Hide’ Crowd Should Be Worried About Government Surveillance thread that shows the eery parallels between Nazi Germany and the United States of today.

Here is an excerpt:

"What no one seemed to notice," said a colleague of mine, a philologist, "was the ever widening gap, after 1933, between the government and the people. Just think how very wide this gap was to begin with, here in Germany. And it became always wider. You know, it doesn’t make people close to their government to be told that this is a people’s government, a true democracy, or to be enrolled in civilian defense, or even to vote. All this has little, really nothing, to do with knowing one is governing.

"What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, little by little, to being governed by surprise; to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if the people could not understand it, it could not be released because of national security. And their sense of identification with Hitler, their trust in him, made it easier to widen this gap and reassured those who would otherwise have worried about it.

"This separation of government from people, this widening of the gap, took place so gradually and so insensibly, each step disguised (perhaps not even intentionally) as a temporary emergency measure or associated with true patriotic allegiance or with real social purposes. And all the crises and reforms (real reforms, too) so occupied the people that they did not see the slow motion underneath, of the whole process of government growing remoter and remoter.

Lets not forget, we gave nazi Intel officers a free pass

so we could bring them here to the US and incorporate their NAZI intel programs from WW II.

US had numerous former NAZI Officers on the CIA Payroll after WW II.

The one difference that might save us though is that people are speaking out against it and are starting to fight.

Corporatism & Militarism, more...

These are my indicators:

Corporatism & banking: no longer a laissez faire market, lobbying and rigging the market is more important than competition. Wealth created through stock market & speculation not innovation. Corporations are executing the business of the state and banks are consolidated as they privatize the profits and make losses public. - Consolidate banking, tie it to the state.

Militarism: perpertual state of war, military corporatism and the "heroizing" of those in uniform while never questioning the actions of the defense institution. The breakdown of checks & balances since congress no longer declares war. It has become acceptable for the president, his cabinet and shadow agencies to wage war. - War by decree.

Creation of scapegoats: seems to be Mexicans/Hispanics/Illegals/Aliens and Muslims these days while the same gov't creates the problems in the first place for the benefit of corporations. - Distract the people, shift blame.

Religious fanaticism: We have it here for sure. Some religious institutions heavily support the military and agression or "crusade". GW used the word "crusade" - there is heavy historical reference. Luckily the majority of religious groups do not act this way and still believe in peace. But to make the conversion complete the gov't will work to co-opt religion and the religious and then use them. How? By eliminating the separation of church & state. - Use & abuse religion.

Legal system: Corporatize incaceration. Militarize the police. The courts are effectively re-writing the constitution. The president appoints federal judges. Eventually the constitution will become meaningless. When we collectively lose our constitutional rights we effectively lose The Republic. - Use the courts, eliminate checks & balances.

You see the one thing that i think that has come along recently to finally have a chance to break that cycle, something new, something our grandfathers grandfathers never had........ill let you guess, i want to see if we are on the same "wavelength" here

The ability to disperse information almost instantaneously.

Modern technology is a tool that both sides use. On the one hand, the government controls the media while, on the other, people for liberty can communicate and spread information much more quickly than was ever possible before.

Wow, i was originally gonna

Wow, i was originally gonna give a standard Bingo! response to the person who got it, but that wont do

You quite literally took the words from my mind, near enough

The INSTANT capability to communicate with one another across the world

You deserve a hundred bingo's my friend :)
