Romney is Cruel to Animals

In case any of you were considering voting for Romney...

Claim: Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney transported a dog atop his car.

Status: True.

Example: [Collected via e-mail, January 2008]

Is it true that Mitt Romney Republican presidential candidate strapped the cage of his Irish Setter (named Seamus) and drove with it on the hood of his car for 12 hours on the high way? The rumor also says that it (his dog Seamus) pooped itself and he pulled over, sprayed it off and kept going.

Origins: In June 2007 the Boston Globe reported that in 1983, current Republican presidential hopeful (and former Massachusetts governor) Mitt Romney had placed his Irish setter in a dog carrier on the roof of his station wagon for a 12-hour trip to his parents' cottage on the Canadian shores of
Lake Huron. He'd built a windshield for the carrier to make the ride more comfortable for the dog. He'd also made it clear to his five sons that bathroom breaks would be taken only during predetermined stops to gas up the car.

The dog spoiled this plan by letting loose with a bout of diarrhea during its rooftop sojourn, necessitating an unplanned gas station visit for the purpose of hosing down the pooch, its carrier, and the back of the car.

In that Boston Globe article, the incident was pointed to as an example of Romney's emotion-free crisis management style. Others viewed it differently, regarding the mode of canine transport the dog was subjected to as unnecessarily callous and cruel.

Romney dismisses such critics by saying "They're not happy that my dog loves fresh air."

What about us humans?

Romney has come out in favor of torture. So don't be surprised next year if you see a middle-eastern-looking man tied atop an Expedition with government tags as it speeds around the Beltway.

I hear McCain is opposed to the idea because of the carbon emissions.

Who gives a crap? This is another ridiculous thread.

Honestly, my family lives in

Honestly, my family lives in Michigan and are strong supporters of Animal Cruelty-Rescue organizations across the nation. I know for sure they would never vote for someone who was cruel to animals.

Secondly, say for example I am a Romney supporter and just heard about Ron Paul on TV or saw the blimp. I'm doing research and come across the site... I like animals (which a lot of people do). I see this. I wouldn't want to vote for Romney.

I just thought people would like this information. I respect your opinion as well. We will all be better off when RP wins.

Thanks for your comment on my thread.

If you...

...cared about animals at all. So were you glad when Atlanta's QB Vick got convicted on his animal cruelty charges or did you not "give a crap" You might be surprised but theirs a whole lot of ppl who actually care about their pets.

It's cool though, you're entitled to your own opinion on this being a useless topic. For how long who knows though.

Actually, I think that

Actually, I think that people get carried away with caring so much about DOMESTICATED animals. Folks don't seem to care too much about fish...

I think that what happened to Vick was nothing short of a travesty. People get so riled up about gd pit bulls (the males are truly a nasty breed of dogs, btw) and basically crucified a VERY generous mega-millionaire who did MANY great things for those in need. Hundreds, if not thousands, of PEOPLE depended on Vick's charity and goodwill in some fashion or another. And an emphasis on charity is relative to the message of freedom, as I think we all know by now. I think you'll find more pet freaks over at the Clinton or Obama sideshow.

Who knew that stuffed animal toys would have such an impact...

i don't think romney is the most sensitive guy on the planet

his kids seem kinda shell-shocked too... like they're living in the shadow of a loveless ego-maniac.

you...

don't have any idea ...unless you study up on Romney.

Was he the guy

in the movie Vacation? Maybe he should choose Huck's son as a running mate. Oh, I know, that wasn't nice. These guys are Siiiiick, though!

delete my account!!!

I did hear about this...

...and Romney even confessed to his dog riding in a crate ontop of his car, so that eliminates it being a rumor.

However, I never read that article it has so much extra details I wasn't aware of. I'm a huge dog lover. I have 4 dogs. My oldest one is a female red nosed pitbull, then a male black lab mix, and 2 Alapaha Blue/American Bulldogs bro and sis at 6 months old. Now I really dislike that bastard Romney.

is...

is Romney related to Huckabee's son by chance?

This is bizarre

Wow. What a jerk! The poor dog had to endure a lot of stress to unload that way. I don't think the carrier on the roof would be too bad if it was adequately shielded from the elements and the temperatures weren't too extreme but for 12 hours, not!

Healthnuttie for Ron Paul
