Michael Hastings Death Suspicious?

This appears to be video of the after-math of Michael Hasting's car "accident" and death. He was driving his Mercedes-Benz and somehow ended up hitting a tree and the car exploded. Apparently he was driving really fast. But I thought people drove a Mercedes because they are "like a tank". I don't normally do the conspiracy angle, but this really does seem kind of odd.

Here's another video which MAY show him speeding before the wreck. Just seems kind of odd.

Then there's this from WikiLeaks; WikiLeaks just threw some gasoline onto the conspiracy fire. On Wednesday night, they Tweeted: “Michael Hastings contacted WikiLeaks lawyer Jennifer Robinson just a few hours before he died, saying that the FBI was investigating him.”

There are two questions here

that we need to focus on.

1) Why was Michael Hastings traveling at such a high rate of speed and running red lights? That in itself was an act of suicide. Why was Hastings trying to commit suicide? Or was he?

2)Did Hastings car blow up as a result of making contact with the tree? Or did Hastings car blow up prior to making contact with the tree?

If we knew the answers to these questions we could be sure of what really happened. Then we need to know why it happened.

Black Box

What about the car's black box? Let me guess...it is obliterated into millions of tiny little pieces.

Big time The Gov did it

It smells to high heaven. There is all kinds of video and information on it. There is no way it was an accident.

Too Many Unanswered Questions

I have not read anything that has said what he was doing out at 4am in the morning in that area. Had he left home, was he going home? His wife hasn't said anything either that has been posted.

His car hit a fire hydrant prior to the tree. Is that what caused the engine/transmission and drive shaft to be torn from the car and end up 100' away? Photos of the car do not indicate the type of high speed damage usually associated with hitting a tree, or in this case a palm tree.

The eye witness said the car "jack knifed" before it crashed. Did Hastings try to put the car into a broadside spin because his throttle was stuck and had no brakes? Was he a victim of "Boston Brakes", where the ECU of the car is taken over and you are along for the ride?

Why would he be speeding and running red lights? Doesn't make sense to get a cop after you doing that. Had somebody shot at him and he was panic fleeing. Saw a post that said there were some bullet holes in the door, don't know if it is true or not.

Give the car to Mercedes to investigate. I am sure they would like to look at the physics of what tore the engine out and why the car immediately "blew up" and caught fire.

Lots of questions, but the police have already closed the case?

Great points

If a person wants to lay low because he believes the FBI is investigating him, I believe the last thing he would want to do was raise the attention of law enforcement by running red lights and speeding down the road at dangerous speeds.
I believed you nailed it with the Boston Break scenario.

Do you know who Michael Hastings is?

I'm curious to know from all those who are following this thread and making all these conjectures about Michael Hastings suspected car crash if they know who he is. To get one perspective check out: Who is Michael Hastings?

What model of Mercedes was he

What model of Mercedes was he driving? I heard it was a new car and they have many airbags and safety features.

I will not be buying a Mercedes because of this safety failure and Mercedes should recall all these vehicles that blow up in car accidents.

It was a Mercedes C250 Coupé

According to Wiki at least.

MSRP $37,800.

MSRP $37,800.

You May Have Stumbled Onto Something Here

What would happen if a large enough group of people got together to demand Mercedes have either a recall and/or an investigation? If they don't do either, it could potentially be a PR disaster (if there were enough people upset about this). What if they found that there's no way the accident could've happened like that? That would be interesting.

We all could call Mercedes and demand this. I just looked it up:

Press 2 (for "MB Financial")

Press 1 (for "Mercedes-Benz Financial Representative" - I didn't see any kind of customer service option but we can ask the financial rep for that).

Undo what Wilson did

I don't understand this video at all.

How can the cop's dash cam pick him up and the cop arrives after the fire fighters?
I'm also not getting the first scene of him coming by. I'm looking for him on the left of the video, and he shows up nearer the middle... What am I looking at on the leftmost sixth of the video?

The person was parked at a gas

The person was parked at a gas station, so I'm guessing he was not in the car. The view is blocked by bushes, you can see here (the Walgreens is not there yet)- http://goo.gl/maps/K8roz

edit - it's wasn't a cop, but some graffiti media type people.

The light is green in the first scene. Watched this several times and I never see anybody running a red light. ?

How in the world does a car lose its engine like that?

.

physics...your engine is only fasten into the frame w/4 bolts

http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/04/crashing-into-wall/

Say he hit 80 g's and the engine weighs 500 lbs...40,000 lbs. thats the tensile strength of a 3/4" bolt. but i bet the bolts don't break they just pull right through the frame.

Either Way Bolted Joints are only meant to work in certain load cases...you put them in a different load scenario and they fail. The heads could roll off from bending moments like a sardine can lid too.

Tree can withstand 80 g's

and barely a scratch .. hmmmm

tree is stationary...not experiencing same force

curb was hit first...maybe he nose dived into the ground or base of the trunk/stump

F=ma

but I agree tree look in much better shape than it should.

However my brother fell asleep/(might have been drunk) and drove up a tree. Car was crumpled completely...engine inside the cockpit. Tree didn't move, but it had a nasty amount of bark off of it.

That was an oak. I know nothing about palm trees. They either have to dig a huge hole around an oak to break the stump out or use dynamite. I guess there are grinders too, but thats not really moving the stump loose.

In depends on the palm tree

In depends on the palm tree cultivar. Some are very barky, others nearly have the feel of stone. They have a lot of flex too--I've seen a 2' trunk palm tree that could sway 30'+ in a decent wind.

Would be more of a shear strength issue than tensile. Tensile

is vertical stretching of the bolt.

bolts are springs show me the shear strength of a bolt?

I never said the bolts failed in a tensile load case...I merely stated the fact the tensile strength of the bolt was roughly equal to the force on the engine.

If you were going to pick apart something my post why didn't you go for the easy one? The load is shared by 4 bolts!

The joint can fail in several ways...I mentioned 2 likely failure modes and neither of them required the bolt to fail by tensile load case.

For most standard threaded fasteners, shear strength is
not specified even though the fastener may be
commonly used in shear applications. While shear
testing of blind rivets is a well-standardized procedure
that calls for a single shear test fixture, the
shear testing technique for threaded fasteners is
not as well designed. Most procedures use a
double shear fixture, but variations in the test
fixture designs cause a wide scatter in measured
shear strengths (i.e., the variations in test
procedures produce non-standard results).
To determine the shear strength of the
fastener, the total cross-sectional area of the
shear plane is important. For shear planes
through the threads, we could use the thread
root area. There are two possibilities for
applied shear load (as illustrated below). One
possibility is that the shear plane occurs in the
threaded portion of the bolt. Since shear
strength is directly related to the net sectional
area (i.e.: the amount solid bolt material in the
diameter), a narrower area will result in lower
bolt shear strength. To take full advantage of
strength properties the shank of the bolt body
should be within the shear planes. To
illustrate, consider the difference in shear
strength between the two Grade 8 bolts on the
previous page; one with the threads in the
shear plane, the other with the shank in the

got a piece of paper that says I can do it and everything.

Wish I got paid more or got to work on my own fun stuff more...maybe some day.

I am not a world renown expert on bolted joints, but I have been to many classes and worked with some pretty sharp cookies that are patent holders on anylis. I am one step above a hack basically on the subject, but if I had time and money it is something I would pursue to become more specialized in it. Fascinating stuff and used all over the place.

What I actually get paid for is being a glorified plumber. I work on hydraulic systems. pressure are a little higher than your house water, but its the same problems...leaks, and why do my pipes vibrate/get clogged. OR how come I don't get flow (why doesn't this faucet turn on).

i thought cars always

i thought cars always exploded when they crash?

In the movies...

...they virtually always do; so I think it's an honest mistake to believe they do the same in real life. Conspiracies also seem real in the movies; so I also think it's an honest mistake to buy into those in real life too.

If they can remotely control a drone

They can remotely control a car.

But, that is not the point. The point is they have the capability of doing practically ANYTHING they want, as the LAPD is protective of the FBI.

He could , and most likely was murdered before the accident. The 2 photos of the vehicle provided by the Media DO NOT match. One photo shows a mashed in front vehicle into a big tree trunk. The other shows a vehicle NEXT to a lamp pole with no front end smashed.....yet in both cases we are supposed to believe the ENGINE blew out to the right about a 100 yards from the car. THAT is physically impossible UNLESS the car was ignited by a bomb.

But, Big Media is SILENT, so.....

almost only when there is a camera pointed at them

Its the lense that does it. Or maybe its a watched pot boil thing.

im shocked that this only happens in the movies. my brain is swimming. im gna make an appointment with my neurologist Tyrone.
