Interesting Russell Brand link

I saw him recently in two places, the "Morning Joe" clip, and the Westboro Baptist Church bit on his show which was rather less enjoyable.

Anyway what he said in this video was "To take a risk and to take a stand, knowing that in all likelihood you will be persecuted, penalized, demonized, and punished for it, that is incredibly bold."

This resonates with his appearance on Morning Joe, when he had enough of being mocked, and decided to do mock headlines, and the ones that he chose were Edward Snowden and Bradley Manning.

It makes more sense, after seeing this -- this likely took "some time" to produce so he had first said that line (whether given to him or created by him) at least a few weeks ago. So for his recent appearance to resonate with that line, well it makes sense.

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

Some celebrities do have a soul. :)

This is refreshing after that Celebrity "take our guns" video.

I wonder if we can get some celebs on End the Fed. Lets ramp up the understanding of free market currency.

Bitcoin Vs gold video is a good start.

Interesting and welcomed but......

as I peruse sites like Huffington Post and read comments on any article about Edward Snowden, it amazes me the contempt and hate they have for him because he made their Messiah look bad.

Honestly, I can't tell the Neo-cons from the Liberals anymore. That's why I have always been a Libertarian.

Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden as well as many other whistle-blowers need our support en masse. The video is a start but we need to organize and do more, particularly at election time.

They are the real few, the real proud and the real brave and we need more like them.

That's because Liberals

are now NEO-Liberals. They are only slightly different from NEO-Cons, but fundamentally they are the same.

GOP Delegates

The point I made during the GOP purge of Ron Paul delegates was that the attempt would turn all delegates against the despots at the top. Telling delegates, or voters, or the public that you think they're too stupid to decide policy is never going to be popular. It brought Santorum supporters and Ron Paul supporters together, just as it unites other countries when we attack them.

Whistle-blowers, by going straight to the public, put the despots in the position of trying to make the case that the public can't be trusted. The public generally doesn't like that idea.

How old is this compilation video? I recognize several, but not all. My post title is from 'The Princess Bride' as spoken by the actor Wallace Sean (blue shirt in this video). Roger Waters of course, Matt Taibe, Phil Donohue, Oliver Stone...I don't know the women, I don't know the bald black guy or the group of folks...
So, where is the outrage? Why is this not a PSA on television being shown 3 times per hour on every network?

WHERE are the libertarian icons?

They probably weren't invited to the shoot. Hollywood liberals want the monopoly on public outrage; which, is one of the reasons these movements don't go anywhere.

Heh, shows how out of touch with TV celebrities I am

I only recognized two of all of those people.

Roger Waters from Pink Floyd and I barely recognized Phil Donahue.

No clue who anyone else was.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is Jake's sister; she was nominated for an Oscar in CRAZY HEART.

Oliver Stone, of course. Director of JFK and I'd forgotten he directed THE PEOPLE vs. LARRY FLYNT which, in my mind, showed what a hero to libertarianism Larry Flynt's attorney was, with the main message being that we have to protect unpopular speech. I don't care for people who re-write history (although the ones who write it aren't necessarily any more accurate!), but the message in the Larry Flynt movie was definitely a good one.

I'd have to watch again to list more. I used to work in Hollywood, and it functions, mostly, on a libertarian level because it's the place where economics and tolerance, conservatism and liberalism, meet.

Hollywood gives me hope. Imagine everyone you knew in high school, including the teachers, and all their parents and children trying to work together to make a movie. Class clowns, nerds, jocks, student council members, everyone, and their families, all trying to make a movie together as accountants, lawyers, agents, actors, grips, Teamsters, set decorators, writers, directors, photographers, publicists, film chemists or special effects chemists, computer graphics or stunts, and the marketing and posters and on and on, every kind of person, many who fled somewhere else. It is a miracle movies get made, let alone that they're any good.

You can't judge Hollywood by the actors, alone. Of course they care about speech, tolerance of other cultures, and ending starvation (having starved themselves), but the reality is the whole Hollywood environment has both conservatives and liberals working together in a functioning libertarian manner.

Actors don't know the first thing about Austrian economics, as a rule, but that's just ignorance. Dr. Paul was right: we can form coalitions and we can educate.

Thank You, MissLiberty

I always love your perspective. ;-)

Wonderful subthread.

my thoughts exactly

manning as well as assange and snowden are supported by libertarians and by progressives. why then are these movements not combined? libertarians should do another video and not make the same mistake as the hollywood liberals.

so far well known media

so far well known media conservatives are to chicken to step up to the plate or they would make their own video or stand up and joined them in this one.
While they are actually doing something, if it concerns you soo much. Then maybe you should make a video yourself with conservatives and stop bitching about folks who are actually doing something.

Going to share far and wide

This video at the same time coaxed lightning bolts of anger....as well as tears...out of my eyes.

Where the f-ck was I when all this was going down?? I can't believe how stupid and brainwashed I have been.

I am personally sorry for the sufferings of all these whistleblowers and plan to make it my life's aim to correct that and attempt to make it right.

And it ain't by the so called "brown" terrorists.

Its the "white and white collared terrorists" who are trying to lock down the world. I get it now.

Hopefully we have enough time to reverse.

Norfolk, VA

Time to INVESTIGATE the investigators of 9/11. PROSECUTE the prosecutors. EXPOSE the cover-up.

I showed my 11 yr old the original video of the shooting...

She was appalled....and I am glad she was.

Michael Nystrom's picture

I remember when that video came out

I was depressed for days.

I'm glad she was appalled too.

At some point, the O'Reilly's of the world, and the Beck's and the Ted Cruz's and the Rubio's and the Romney's, and even the Bush's of the world will be appalled as well. Not because they're actually appalled, but because to not be appalled would be so politically incorrect that they would be run out of town on a rail.

Or maybe not. Maybe the Revolution will not be Televised.

I don't recognize everyone in this video, but those I do

would probably be considered "Liberals."

Where is the conservative version of this video? Are there any "conservatives" in this video?

Is that why this post only has 3 votes on the DP? And the OP is correct, I couldn't find it posted elsewhere here either.

He's the man.

3 votes is my probably my fault

I fear my title and minimal comment don't do this video justice. I'm not as eloquent as most here, just a "dumb" carpenter lol.

Thanks Michael for bringing attention to it.

Oh come on, don't be so hard on yourself

The three votes isn't your fault... It isn't anyone's fault. Thank you for posting it.

Just a dumb carpenter, you say? I'd be careful... I think it was a dumb carpenter that started a revolution, a couple thousand years ago! lol.

And as for eloquence? It doesn't matter what comes out of your mouth as much as what is in your heart.

Thank you for posting it, and for the link to the site.

He's the man.

I was kind of JK

Thanks though.

As for liberals and conservatives, I am trying to look at people differently (Since I am not a politician)... I now try to only see people as the informed or the uninformed... As more and more truth exposes the evil lies of the govt, it becomes way harder for them to divide and conquer us all- Thanks mostly to YOU and all the other providers of the truth.

Someday we might even all become "We the People" again instead of "We the divided people"

This is a perfect

Example of issues that libertarians have in common with Occupy types. We need to find ways to take advantage of these common grounds to combine our political power in Congress. To keep our "camps" wholly seperate is a tragic wasted opportunity.

Unless we all work together on this Bradley will never be free and neither will we.

Don't let the powers that be pit us against each other.

Exactly. Don't we have more

Exactly. Don't we have more humanity in common with these folks than with McCain, Graham or Santorum?

"February 1st 2013 the entire parliamentary group of The Movement in the Icelandic Parliament, the Pirates of the EU; representatives from the Swedish Pirate Party, the former Secretary of State in Tunisia for Sport & Youth nominated Private Bradley Manning for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Following is the reasoning we sent to the committee explaining why we felt compelled to nominate Private Bradley Manning for this important recognition of an individual effort to have an impact for peace in our world. The lengthy personal statement to the pre-trial hearing February 28th by Bradley Manning in his own words validate that his motives were for the greater good of humankind.

Our letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee Reykjavík, Iceland 1st of February 2013

Dear Norwegian Nobel Committee,

We have the great honour of nominating Private First Class Bradley Manning for the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize.

Manning is a soldier in the United States army who stands accused of releasing hundreds of thousands of documents to the whistleblower website WikiLeaks. The leaked documents pointed to a long history of corruption, war crimes, and a lack of respect for the sovereignty of other democratic nations by the United States government in international dealings.

These revelations have fueled democratic uprisings around the world, including a democratic revolution in Tunisia. According to journalists, his alleged actions helped motivate the democratic Arab Spring movements, shed light on secret corporate influence on the foreign and domestic policies of European nations, and most recently contributed to the Obama Administration agreeing to withdraw all U.S.troops from the occupation in Iraq.

Bradley Manning has been incarcerated for more then 1000 days by the U.S. Government. He spent over ten months of that time period in solitary confinement, conditions which expert worldwide have criticized as torturous. Juan Mendez, the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment, has repeatedly requested and been denied a private meeting with Manning to assess his conditions.

The documents made public by WikiLeaks should never have been kept from public scrutiny. The revelations – including video documentation of an incident in which American soldiers gunned down Reuters journalists in Iraq – have helped to fuel a worldwide discussion about the overseas engagements of the United States, civilian casualties of war and rules of engagement. Citizens worldwide owe a great debt to the WikiLeaks whistleblower for shedding light on these issues, and so we urge the Committee to award this prestigious prize to accused whistleblower Bradley Manning.

We can already be reasonably certain that Bradley Manning will not have a fair trial as the head of State, the USA President Mr. Barack Obama, stated over a year ago on record that Manning is guilty.
